A New Site Feature
I know less than nothing about how this would have to be implemented, so feel free to ignore this. Would it be possible to add a feature that allows people to "follow" games that they aren't in?

Coming out....
Of retirement. Havent played a game in about 5 months, and have been spoiled by high quality play for to long to be satisfied by a random game.

Looking for 6 other good, reliable players who send a lot of press. Who wants in!?

NFL Pick 'em: Week 6--Can the Giants Get A Win? Should the 'skins Change Their Name?
We start Week 6 with a game that looked a LOT better before the season started, the Giants and the Cowboys. The Cowboys and Redskins play on Sunday Night, an always-fun match-up (what do you think about the Redskin name, by the way, change it or no?) and there are plenty of interesting games with the Pack and Ravens going at it, the Saints and Patriots going head-to-head, and more. So, Week 6, here we go...PICK 'EM!

Are you a fuloughed US employee? Do you like free stuff?
Apparently GOG is giving away free video games to anyone who sends them an email with a picture of them, and their furlough notice. I remember some people complaining on this forum about being furloughed by don't remember who. So public notice y'all. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/128554-GOG-Offers-Free-Games-to-Furloughed-U-S-Employees

Shoddy Peer Review in Open Access Journals
As reported in Science (http://www.sciencemag.org/content/342/6154/60.full):
Open Access Journals may be more likely to accept suspect papers (as they are paid by the authors) as demonstrated by Bohannon, who submitted a clearly false paper to several hundred journals, to be rejected by less than half.

Support holding a unit which is supporting another units move?
If a unit is supporting a move, can another unit behind it support hold it or does that not work because the unit it wants to support hold is not holding?

Say Rumania wanted to support move a unit but I wanted to support hold Rumania from Bulgaria would that protect Rumania or would it not work?

The Web of Fear's a Source of Joy Again--9 DOCTOR WHO EPISODES RECOVERED! :D
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-24467337

That's really great, and just in time for the 50th anniversary too...even if we want to say maybe that timing is a little "too" good, hey, they're missing episodes recovered, and all of them from Troughton, who is awesome in the role...I'd love to see these!

The Blame Obama thread
What is Obama's fault? Let's make a list.

I'll start off and say terrorism is Obama's fault.

@YJ - "When anchor Martha MacCallum asked him about the White House's handling of the suspension of death benefits to military families, McCain said that [...] the administration deserves blame".

Let me break down and simplify the last talking point a bit for you Draug, tell me if you can see where you might be going astray...

Dozens of Idiots: "OMG the shutdown is Obama's fault!"

Me: "Not really"

John McCain: "Not really."

Me: "Hey look guys, a well respected conservative is saying what I've been saying! Maybe you'll listen to him?"

Draugnar: "Rather than acknowledging or responding to that, instead I'd rather talk about the soundbyte in that clip most irrelevant to the shutdown, because I need something to blame on Obama if I can't blame the shutdown."

Is that pretty much what you're saying right now, Draugnar?

Draugnar (0 DX)
11 Oct 13 UTC
No, I'm saying McCain said the administration deserves the blame. He went on to say the Republican's triggered it. but in the end, it was still the administrations decision. So they are to blame.

To blame for.....?
Draugnar (0 DX)

Think of it this way. A clogged fuel filter kills the engine to your car. It dies out on the street. It's you call whether to look in the gas tank with a lighter or not. If you do and the car goes boom, it isn't the clogged filter's fault. It's yours.

The white house is to blame for suspending death benefits to military families.

What the administration chooses to do when the situation occurs is completely their responsibility. We all must take responsibility for our own actions, that includes President B.O.

OK.... but since I don't give two fucks about that, who is to blame for shutting down the government?

You can say it....

Meh…”classic definition of developing nation”…I’m sorry, but let’s keep it real. Nobody “nation builds” in developing nation because you don’t have to – you go in, you take the resources you want at a fraction of their value while providing some stimulus to the local economy with your local industry, a few bribes to the officials, maybe set up a courtesy school to look like a good player, and that’s it.
“Nation building” in popular parlance is sending in the troops to rebuild a nation once we have warred with it and want to install a favorable government, and along with that comes a much larger infrastructure project than required to rape a “developing nation” of it’s resources.
So the whole discussion is mute. Yes, I ignored the “developing nation” part because it was ignorant.

*Both* sides are to blame. Neither will fucking compromise and would rather trade blows in the blame game. so both sides are fucking morons and to blame for it. Me, a fiscal conservative and social liberal moderate centrists says this is the case. Both the right and the left are full of fucking morons and would rather argue over the best way to get little Jimmy out of the well then follow Lassie there and just get it done.

Show me where I "praised the shutdown". I've hardly posted in these threads other than to correct misperceptions. I've argued against raising the debt ceiling. I've argued that the ACA is bad legislation. I've argued that yo have twisted and put "spin" on comments. But I've never argued that either side should not come to the negotiation table. Not once.

A Nobel in Two Pages
Physical Review is making available for free the papers that won the Physics Nobel Prizes this year (for the prediction of the Higgs boson). One of them is two pages, and the other is three. That's not so uncommon in physics, but it's still remarkable how tersely a great idea can be communicated. Here is the link for the interested:

Debt Service without Raising the Ceiling

Yes, we can service our debt and not default on our credit without raising the debt ceiling. Just like YOU, the individual, can prioritize your spending at home (say, cancel cable when money gets tight)...so can the Fed. QUIT LYING OBAMA AND ALL YOU LIBTARDS!

Obama Blinks First - Utak Open Fed Parks
http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/10/11/232090272/utah-allowed-to-re-open-national-parks-and-foot-the-bill

The REAL question is this - the Utah can pay $1.67 million to open the parks, to generate $100+ in revenue, why are YOUR tax dollars funding the park anyway? PRIVATIZE or give parks to the states, and these stupid problems go away...
