New Variant Trials Finished
Even though it wasn't a actual tournament or anything and the games were originally 'wait for ready up' and that stopped halfway through leading to a lot of cds... i figured as they've all come to an end i would post the "results" anyway

"Shut Down" Bullshit by Obama
If we don't Federal Workers to man the WWII memorial...how come we have enough to pay the guards to put up barricades and stand guard to prevents WWII vets from visiting? How come Obama still seems to have staff at his *golf course*?

Seems Barrack Dickhead Obama has a very selective vision of what "shut down" means...

SSE increase their energy prices by 8.2% for winter, despite reporting £1.2 billion profit in the summer. I've had enough, who's going to join me?

DEBT CEILING NEGOTIATIONS
If nobody has ever negotiated on the Debt Ceiling, as Obama and the intellectually vacant around here say, …then how did we get Sequestration after the Debt Ceiling negotiations in 2011. Sequestration was *Obama’s* plan, by the way.

How very little intellectual integrity exists within you morally perverted Democrats…

Rank Questions
So how long does a player remain a Political Puppet and then move on to Member, Experienced, etc?

Is it a matter of how long you've played or how many times you've won or drawn? Or is it just based on time spent on the site? Just curious. Thanks for your help....

Diplomacy for the slow and old
Any interest in a 3 to 4 day phase game? I'd definitely want WTA, but buy-in, anonymity, and map (classic or modern) are up for debate. Drop a line and your preferences if interested. Thanks.
murraysheroes (526 D(B))
02 Oct 13 UTC
I think I have to count myself out of this one (as I have a couple of active games already), but 3-4 day phases for the "slow and old" sounds right up my ally.

3 day, 5 D bet, WTA, non-anon preferably, classic map and I'm in.

No worries, murrays. I'll catch you next time.

I'd like to put up a few more points than that, bo. Not so much that people will play tight, but enough so if a person takes the whole thing, they can use the winnings to buy in to a 100+ pot game...so say somewhere from 15 to 30.

1.trip
2.bo

I'd be in. I don't care one way or another about anonymity.
Triumvir (1193 D)
02 Oct 13 UTC
I could be interested. I prefer to play in anon games on classic map.

Could you be swayed to play a non-anon game, Triumvir?

It's possible. I have only ever played one non-anon game (I think). I just don't like the idea of people having access to my past record (most notably, wins and draws as a particular nation) during an ongoing game.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
02 Oct 13 UTC
No one does that, Tri. The only thing I like about non-anon is that I can address people a little less formally.
Triumvir (1193 D)
02 Oct 13 UTC
So I'm paranoid. So sue me. ;)
trip (696 D(B))
02 Oct 13 UTC
I understand your concern, Tri. It does make it possible for someone to base their strategy on something that has nothing to do with the game at hand. I think in a non-anon game tough, the kind of player that does that would have a hard time finding anyone's past record savory enough to ally with, unless there's someone out there who never stabs.
Hazel-Rah (1262 D)
02 Oct 13 UTC
bo: "No one does that."

Wow. That just sounds incredibly naive. There are losers out there who take this meaningless game seriously enough that they're willing to make multiple accounts or send false emails or whatever to get some kind of imagined edge. You don't think there are those who might try to gain an edge in a more legitimate, honorable fashion? That there aren't obsessive Diplomacy geeks out there poring over their opponents' stats the same way a fantasy sports geek examines the touchdowns/yards/home runs/batting averages of professional athletes?

I'm with Triumvir. Anonymous all the way.
mendax (321 D)
02 Oct 13 UTC
bo, a few years ago when I was playing on a small email list and so met the same players regularly I spent time analysing their openings as different powers, and my results improved as a result. I would not be surprised if that happened on a larger scale here.
Honestly I probably would. But I think it adds another layer to things if you have more data to work with.
trip (696 D(B))
02 Oct 13 UTC
Do you care if it's anon, bo? Please feel free to just say "no", so we can lock in the particulars.

Hazel & mendax, are you interested in playing?

I wouldn't do that. It's a waste of time. No one does one single thing as a country in a game, why would looking through 200 games matter at all?

Make it anon but if I get Russia I'm gonna throw a massive shitstorm and ruin it for all of you so you'll know who I am if that happens anyway..
Just for a minute, let's all do the bump.
murraysheroes (526 D(B))
04 Oct 13 UTC
You know what, since this conversation has gone on for a couple of days, I think the toughest part of my active games is over...I'm in. I prefer classic anon. I don't really care if it's PPSC or WTA, and I also don't really care how many points the buy-in is.

"Make it anon but if I get Russia I'm gonna throw a massive shitstorm and ruin it for all of you so you'll know who I am if that happens anyway."

If that's how you really feel, then you have nothing to worry about, because you won't be playing.

Classic, 3 day/phase, 15pt, WTA, ?Anon/Non?

3. murray
4. bo (non anon) / Tri (anon)

was lincoln great for our elite?
bill still seems to think the elite wanted to divide america so lincoln was a problem for them. but i am not so sure. lets say he did not declare war on the south and let the south kick out the norths military from their territory, would that have really benefited them much?

College Life
So a couple months ago I asked the WebDip community for advice for college. Many of you said that joining a frat would be a good idea, and at the very least I should check it out.
Well, on October 7th I am pledging to Theta Chi; are there any soon-to-be fellow frat mates on WebDip? What other fraternities are people a part of?

Fog of war variant
Correct me if there is already one, but wouldn't it be cool to have a variant with 'fog of war'? You would only be able to see enemy units in territories neighbouring your own territory/armies. The uncertainty would make things very interesting.. perhaps with additional distance limitations on conversation as well

IPCC finally admits that it was lying to us all

My stance on global warming for the last year has remained the same: The IPCC were exaggerating their claims, and that while global warming is happening, its not happening as quickly as climate scientists think.
