Short Story of the Day
Hi! I am starting a new thread where I will post a new short story each day this week (each business day, anyway). I am hoping people will read and (if inclined) discuss the stories.

So, the following is my first forum discussion in the intro to business practice...
The topic of this forum thread was "Is Wal-Mart's business practices good or fair? Both or neither?"

the liberals will probably like my response and the conservatives hate it, but I think it will be an interesting discussion for us here and I got to refer back to a HuffPo article listed here sometime back. So COOL!

I've set up a website where I'm putting some of my working essays. These aren't completed but rather things to come back to and improve upon whenever I feel like it.

Going into the next election cycle the Republicans don't want to appear too soft on nations using chemical weapons. After all they took years to recover from Reagan's cowardice in Lebanon.

Yeah, Reagan should've just kept sending more marines in until we had a full-blown Vietnam-sized conflict and hundreds of Americans coming home in bodybags every week while the whole country scratched its collective heads and wondered what, exactly, we were trying to accomplish there. What a pussy!

"I hope they aren't already thinking about the next election cycle."

NAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH.....NEVER!!!

"First thing an elected politician does is start getting money for his next election. A hundred years ago it was to do his job."

Please...the Greeks and Romans had the same shit.

Politicians have been this way since their inception.

HA HA HAH !!! Boehner *always* eventually supports Obama. There is no difference in the political parties anymore...it's just a mutual stroke society in DC these days.

"Yet we still trust them to rule."

1. They rule, that doesn't mean we have to trust them to.

2. Well...yeah...we elected them...that's kind of what elected officials do...

3. I'm curious, for the Obama (and even Boehner) haters here--do you think it would be better with someone else in charge? That is, do you honestly believe Politicians X and Y could do a better job and/or avoid all the problems you complain about? If so, pray tell--who? (First one to shout "Ron Paul!" gets a pie in the face for being as pie-in-the-sky as they come.) If not...well, if power's going to corrupt anyway, what's the point of getting on their cases--after all, if being corrupted is part of the natural outcome of the job, what's the point in protesting a natural outcome?

@Obi,
I keep trying to get non-politicians to run for things, but for some reason the minute they get nominated, they turn into politicians, the sons-a-bitches.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Yes, Obi, I do thing they could avoid these problems. I do think they could avoid corruption and I do think they could do their jobs and make everyone (not just companies) happy.

I KNOW...

It's ALMOST like ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY.

How, bo_sox?

I think I've made my position clear insofar as I think that's a naive position and incorrect, and that most if not all politicians will have to practice Dirty Hands Politics in one form or another to get anything done (either for themselves or their constituents.)

So how can that be avoided...especially when we've done an exceptionally-poor job avoiding that element of human nature so far?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Abolition of political parties. Everyone runs as an independent on their own ideas.
Draugnar (0 DX)
03 Sep 13 UTC
Still requires obi's Dirty Hand Politics to get things done. I once knew a great man who wanted to do something great for our country so he got himself elected and went to DC where he discovered his conscience wouldn't let him do what it took to get the job done. His friend, on the other hand, hadno problem with Dirty Hands Politics and became Speaker of the House. I'm talking about Tom Kindness and John Boehner.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
03 Sep 13 UTC
Ironically the boner becomes Speaker. And kindness is uhh, forgotten.

Yes, what I say is unrealistic. If at least the majority of them did that, though, we'd be set to go.

Of Twerking and Terrible, Terrible Pop Songs--What Do We Pay Attention To?
So until today I was blissfully unaware of what the VMAs even were, let alone (Facebook jokes aside) what happened there with a certain Ms. Cyrus and...you know, forgoing all of...that (though really, WTF?!) I'd rather ask another question--assuming that most here likewise couldn't care less about Ms. Cyrus or Mr. Bieber or *Insert Pop Icon For the Masses Here*...what DO we care about, and why does the majority gravitate to these things we raise eyebrows at?

Where'd he go?
I left webDip over the summer, and I came back recently, but have seen no mention of him at all.
Did he decide we weren't worthy? Or did he just impart upon us his knowledge of Everything, then fade away, his work here done, to another forum where his adventure starts anew.

I will be leaving this site (for now)
There is a very obvious reason associated with this, specifically that we are discussing the same thing over and over again, and not getting anywhere. I certainly enjoyed my time on this forum, but now I am moving on to a Traditionalist Catholic forum (http://catholicforum.fisheaters.com) because it sounds like a fun trolling project and I can't let Sbyvl get away from me. If you wish to contact me, you can't, because phones didn't exist in 1625 and that's the time I live in.

I do have 2 games to finish, so I will hang around until then. But my decision is definite and I will be gone within a few weeks.
