This guy's a little more extreme than just saying that he wants the town to be all white...he's already built a prison in which he plans to hold journalists, for instance. Which I don't understand how he can say he wants international attention but wants to imprison any journalists who come around.

That's not very likely.

He doesn't have the right to imprison journalists. Although his theory is that if he fills the town with a majority neo-Nazi population, he can change the laws to allow him to do that. I think he has an overly simplistic view on local government.

There are plenty of towns where everyone is white. If I recall correctly, the Supreme Court ruled that it was okay to sell your homes to whoever you wanted, but it was not okay to force a provision on people that they could only sell their home to whites (there were a few suburban developments in the postwar era that required people to make a binding agreement to only sell their home to whites, which was ruled unconstitutional, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't so from a racism standpoint but from a contractual standpoint).

If someone buys all the land in town and wants to move whoever in, all whites, all blacks, all people with rainbow tattoos, I don't care. It's his property, whatevs. It's when it comes to building your own prison and requiring Nazi flags to be flown that I get twitchy. Which I would even agree that a PERSON flying a Nazi flag should be allowed the freedom of speech to do it, but he wants to make it a town law.

Point out a time when a black person *did* try to build an all-black city and people thought it was a good idea, and you'll be pointing out a double standard. Until then, you're comparing a hypothetical to an actual. (And no, I won't allow Tolstoy's example to count any more than I'll count the establishment of Liberia as a black-goverened country as a good example, because they both happened during legalized segregation when all-white towns were also widely accepted, and thus the example is inadequate to establish that the same would happen under today's legal structure.) So, yeah, find me an example of an all-black town founded in the last 25 years and widely applauded and I'll admit that there's a double-standard at worn.

Oh, and I have lived in Greater Cincinnati for 40+ years of my life. I've called it home since I was 2 with just a few stops in Europe and other places (Marine Corps!) so I think of anyone here, I know cincinnati better than virtually any of you. Single digit years living here? I grew up here.

The suburbs, including most in Hamilton County, are extremely conservative and closed off to the world. The Zip code of my school was the # 2 contributor to the Bush campaign in one of his two election cycles.

And how do you grow up in a city in just 9 years... Did you not start growing up until you were 10 or something? Most people take 17-25 years to grow up. Even if you strip off the time before you were in Elementary school, it takes 13 years to get from kindergarten through high school.

Yes, you're a marine, congratulations. I didn't get that the first time you mentioned it. You went on tours of duty and mostly stayed in your military base where everything you needed was. That's not the same as living in another country.

@JECE - Being a Marine doesn't mean I "mostly stayed in your military base where everything you needed was." If that is what you think, then you were never in the service. In places like Afghanistan or Kuwait or other hot spots at the time, maybe. But if you are stationed in Germany or Okinawa... You get off base all the time and experience the people and the culture.

But beyond that, I have a passport stamped from several places aroudn the world with I have lived for months at a time as a private citizen working for a private company, my favorite being Lindau, Germany were I spent many months working for Xomox.
