A global press message after every phase so that its easier to place archived messages when looking through press in the 'messages' screen. Would help for diploming and for creating EOGs.

What, that he killed Jesse James? I would say that fact has long passed from news to history.
No, rather, the mayor of Toronto is involved in a crack cocaine http://www.thestar.com/news/city_hall/2013/05/22/doug_ford_on_rob_ford_i_dont_know_how_much_more_he_can_say.html
The links are better than the article.

Jon Stewart did a segment on him last night. Pretty funny. He's seems a bit like Chris farley.
Thats a good analogy.
Yonni (136 D(S))
23 May 13 UTC
All of Toronto swelled with pride that we got a 5 minute segment on the Daily Show. All it took was our buffoon of a mayor to make tabloid worthy news.
Cachimbo (1181 D)
23 May 13 UTC
You get the mayor you deserve!!!

Heck... Toronto has been coming out as a closeted right wing community for a couple of years and y'all scare the heck out of us. If Harper is in office, it's cause you guys keep voting for crazy people like him and Ford.

Stop giving the rest of Canada reasons to justify its hate of Toronto!!!!

And please don't look at the awful state of politics in my city/province (**sweeps it all under the rug**)
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

I'm surprised he can't afford regular coke instead of crack.
I am not sure you can put Harper on us.

Nobody ever admits to voting for ford, although some people must have.
Cachimbo (1181 D)

@ Lando:

How've you been ??? Take a quick look at the progression in the GTA. You guys used to be red. Ya'll are pretty blue now. I forget how many districts changed hands after the last election, but the progression towards a more conservative GTA has been steady over the past few years.
Many analysts have argued that Harper's majority is due to those changes in the GTA.
Cachimbo (1181 D)
23 May 13 UTC
@ Lando:

Take a look at this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Toronto_Area#Federal_politics

in 2000: 44 liberals vs. 0 Conservatives

in 2011: 7 Liberals vs. 32 Conservatives
Cachimbo (1181 D)
23 May 13 UTC
I think we can blame Harper on you guys...
Maybe we should blame the liberals for this. I mean they made themselves pretty hard to vote for. You guys should have let us know in advance the ndp was going to get so many seats in your province. We can blame lack of communication.

RIP Jack Layton
Yonni (136 D(S))
23 May 13 UTC
Cach, this if the first time in ages that Toronto hasn't been predominantly red so you can't say it's a consistent thing that we've voted right. There were still some pockets of NDP d/t and I imagine Trudeau will do very well in the next election here. Most of the conservative votes come from the 'burbs and I take no responsibility for them.

Ideally, once Ford is out, we'll get Olivia Chow (or maybe even John Tory who isn't actually that bad).

But, really Cach, you can't make fun of us electing a crack head. I'm pretty sure the streets of Montreal are paved with coke and mafia victims.
Cachimbo (1181 D)
23 May 13 UTC
Hahahaha!!!

Much to my surprise, I've discovered that I kinda like TO. I just don't get why the GTA has gone sooooo Conservative in the last election. And Ford is just another sign that something is brewing there that I can't feel comfortable with.
True, the Liberals have been awful ever since Chrétien left. But apparently, even the frenchies knew what to do...

And to be fair: the NDP did get a few more people in than usual...

I hear john tory went to uts in downtown Toronto. Wonder what philcore has to say about that.
Cachimbo (1181 D)

@Yonni:
DON'T LOOK UNDER THE RUG I SAID!!!

Since 2004 the Conservatives have steadily been getting more votes. To the point where half the people from the GTA voted for them in the last election. Half. That's a lot. In Canada, the proportion is about 38% for the Conservatives if I remember well.

It's true that the burbs are mostly to blame. Especially for the number of elected MPs. But 48% of the people voting Conservative ... and then Rob Ford (and I'm not talking about the crack... his crazy right wing, anti-cyclists agenda suffices)... Something not healthy in the GTA.

As for Montréal...
We have no water (since yesterday, 1.3 million people are without drinkable water), we have no subway (it's down every day lately, at at the worst time) and we have an interim mayor because our political class has exploded like a zit too full of puss... corruption puss...
We're not looking good.
Yonni (136 D(S))
23 May 13 UTC
It's just the pendulum swinging. David Miller was a lefty and pretty unpopular so we got Ford. Also, people are idiots.
Ford is the king idiot. He occasionally makes a reasonable suggestion and then goes on to doing a million dumb things.

Our subway Is having similar issues. In the city this week for a course. Subway was delayed an hour on me. The other day it was closed in the whole downtown. At least were ok for the h2o

Hamilton Brian (811 D(B))
24 May 13 UTC
And now it's coming out that Ford fired his CoStaff for trying to convince him to take time off, get into rehab if he needs it, etc. All pretty reasonable suggestions as opposed to having your older brother out in front of you deflecting questions. Oh Toronto...

And then there's our mayor and city council...
You appear to be from Hamilton. You're a little safer from all this.
Hamilton Brian (811 D(B))
24 May 13 UTC
Oh, a little bit, but we've got Bob Bratina who is his own caustic mix of stupidity, doublespeak, and aggression issues. It really is good theatre but a poor showing when the feds and province are funnelling down money for big projects like LRT, etc. 2014 can't come soon enough.

Montreal:
Contaminated water warning was lifted last night.

They're doing some work on a main reservoir. The water level had to be brought down for the work to happen. The level went to low, which moved the sediments and raised them into the water. There was a danger of bacteria now being in the water. Tests came out fine last evening.

Yonni (136 D(S))

Back in 2010, I was living in Toronto and actually campaigned for him. 2 days into campaigning for him I concluded that he was an idiot and started campaigning for 2 second most conservative man in the running: Rocco Rossi.

Sadly Ford one without my support, and I still hate the man. He is an embarrassment to the city and I am ashamed to have him as my mayor.

I'm currently on my phone so will post More on the issue later.
I backed Rossi. He was a good candidate.

Wait, wait, wait. I missed Brian's subtle dig at the LRT. God, we can't get that project going soon enough! You best not be one of those subway or bust nutters.
Hamilton Brian (811 D(B))
24 May 13 UTC
Oh that wasn't a subtle dig; there's a big contingent of us that want it. We've had Metrolinx say they'll fund it. Then we have a mayor that says, "we're not sure of the funding level" to "our priority needs to be full day Go Train service"...of which, means nothing for city transportation. Amalgamation certainly isn't helping...the suburban Ancasterites, Dundasites, Binbrookites all want their...oh, don't get me started. This is about Rob Ford after all.

Another Canuck here. At this point news about Rob Ford just isn't shocking. I still can't believe Toronto elected him but they did. Its funny that at the same time Calgary elected Nenshi and our bike system has jumped years ahead since then as well as public transit. Of course that happened the year I left Calgary for Uni

Springtime (no Hitler!) For Germany: Voted Most Popular Country, UK #3, US...#8...Really?
Really? Behind France? I mean, all the arrogance and posturing of the French...that's OUR job as arrogant Americans posturing for war, damn it! ;) (And who loses to France after 1815? I KID, I KID, first to start on a history lesson gets smacked in the face with a week-old baguette!) And counting the EU is cheating, in my opinion, if you're going to count individual EU nations and then the EU itself...But at least, in a totally-unimportant poll, we still beat China! ;)

Do you ever defer a build to make your allies happy? If so, what are the circumstances you usually do so in? At what points of the game? Would you ever defer a build early in the game, for example?
