That's pretty interesting. I don't remember you coming in, and in that case, congratulations. Drawing Italy, I was of the mindset that it's either going to be an opportunity or an obstacle and I wanted to be positive. My initial target was to be Turkey. I opened with moving east but held Venice, hoping to signal to Austria, "play nice, I won't hurt you." Austria made an immediate play for Venice from Trieste. In Autumn I held again, with the same treatment from Austria. I took Greece, abdicating the easy take of Tunis. I was also hoping to springboard into Turkey from there. France was making the usual moves so I felt I had some breathing room there. My build was an army in Naples.
That spring I took Tunis, left Greece holding, and rushed the army to Rome to support Venice. Austria moved into Tyrolia and the fleet in Trieste hit the Adriatic. I also bounced Ven->Trieste, not counting on them leaving Trieste, against Budapest. My thinking was after a year of being passive with Austria, I was done. That Autumn, Austria began to suffer from Russia. Tyrolia tried to get back to Vienna, only to bounce (later to be facing dual pressure from Galicia and Bohemia). France was really playing nice, making no moves toward me or the Med. They were pretty busy against England and Germany. Turkey took Sev and Moscow. My build was a fleet in Naples.
Spring 1903 was quiet; I pushed Tunis to the Ionian, tried moving to Serbia to cut any potential support against Bulgaria (I was thinking that if Austria was going to fight me, I may as well help Turkey and try to pick up what I can). I got no builds that year, nor did Austria, but Turkey got 3 since they grabbed Rumania and Warsaw.
Spring 1904 spelled the slow death for me. Turkey took Greece from me while I was trying to get above Trieste to take it with Venice, Tyrolia, and a fleet in the Adriatic. They also pushed against the Ionian fleet.
I changed strategy in 1905. France was leaving so much unattended and had just disbanded a unit in Marseilles. I pulled the unit in Tyrolia to Piedmont with my eye on Marseilles. I think I could have made an earlier play against France that would have seen me make some gains while still holding off Austria. That Autumn I grabbed Marseilles and also support- held Trieste, hoping to get Austria to realize that we needed to work against Turkey together. At that point though, Turkey had 9 centres. I built another fleet in Rome, believing that part of the key to this game was to hold Turkey off while also getting me to the Iberian centres with some quickness.
The next 3 years were one of little mobility for me; a bit of back and forth with France, continuing to hold for Austria, and slowly getting whittled away by Turkey.
