New Variant Trials Finished
Even though it wasn't a actual tournament or anything and the games were originally 'wait for ready up' and that stopped halfway through leading to a lot of cds... i figured as they've all come to an end i would post the "results" anyway

"Shut Down" Bullshit by Obama
If we don't Federal Workers to man the WWII memorial...how come we have enough to pay the guards to put up barricades and stand guard to prevents WWII vets from visiting? How come Obama still seems to have staff at his *golf course*?

Seems Barrack Dickhead Obama has a very selective vision of what "shut down" means...

DEBT CEILING NEGOTIATIONS
If nobody has ever negotiated on the Debt Ceiling, as Obama and the intellectually vacant around here say, …then how did we get Sequestration after the Debt Ceiling negotiations in 2011. Sequestration was *Obama’s* plan, by the way.

How very little intellectual integrity exists within you morally perverted Democrats…

Rank Questions
So how long does a player remain a Political Puppet and then move on to Member, Experienced, etc?

Is it a matter of how long you've played or how many times you've won or drawn? Or is it just based on time spent on the site? Just curious. Thanks for your help....

Diplomacy for the slow and old
Any interest in a 3 to 4 day phase game? I'd definitely want WTA, but buy-in, anonymity, and map (classic or modern) are up for debate. Drop a line and your preferences if interested. Thanks.

was lincoln great for our elite?
bill still seems to think the elite wanted to divide america so lincoln was a problem for them. but i am not so sure. lets say he did not declare war on the south and let the south kick out the norths military from their territory, would that have really benefited them much?

College Life
So a couple months ago I asked the WebDip community for advice for college. Many of you said that joining a frat would be a good idea, and at the very least I should check it out.
Well, on October 7th I am pledging to Theta Chi; are there any soon-to-be fellow frat mates on WebDip? What other fraternities are people a part of?

Fog of war variant
Correct me if there is already one, but wouldn't it be cool to have a variant with 'fog of war'? You would only be able to see enemy units in territories neighbouring your own territory/armies. The uncertainty would make things very interesting.. perhaps with additional distance limitations on conversation as well

GUNBOAT TOURNAMENT
As has been mentioned, I am hoping to run a gunboat tournament. I intend it to be basic but also comprehensive. I will detail some "things" below. I would like to get a read on who would be interested in playing.

@Ald & Mapu - You didn't get the point.

I'm sorry, it was not intentional. What I thought you were saying is that pauses ruin games and that it is very selfish to ask for a pause rather than arrange for a sitter.

My response was intended to indicate that I thought while a pause does hurt the flow of a game, a three day pause shouldn't have too much affect, especially in a non-discussion game. I think Mapu's response was intending to mean that a sitter could hurt the game more than a pause by introducing worse play.

If you care to, could you please clarify your point?

I don't have a stake in these particular games, but having run a tourney or two, I am interested in your take on life events impacting these games.
It's not about the number of days but about the lack of respect. Yes,it's very selfish, that's why I didn't ask a pause but found two sitters in two occassions in last 20 days.
So if it weren't about "only 3 days" would you come up with something else to defend him?
As for what Mapu said - if I found two sitters as good as I am,if not better, why it would be a problem for him to find one?
You all have full mouth of respect and class when you post on the forum but when you need to show it by your acts you fail. It's no problem to you when a player shows no respect to six others waiting for one only.
Mapu (362 D)
21 Jul 13 UTC
You made the finals, not your sitter. The other people in the finals should be playing against you, not someone else.
So it's about me again?
Are you saying the games should have been paused for 15 days because of me?
Mapu (362 D)

You make everything about you.
You should rather pay more attention about your last two contradictory posts then about me.
Alderian (2425 D(S))

If I sign up for a tournament whose rule includes reasonable pauses, then I do not see it as a lack of respect when someone has the game paused for a reasonable amount of time.

What I do see as a lack of respect is when a player joins a tournament and then after one week quits. So I find it VERY ironic that YOU are here talking about a lack of respect.
Yes,you are right about that,I have no respect for that tournament of your's. That's why I left it.At least I don't pretend I respected it like this one does.In your tournament people doesn't need pause to delaberitely delay games because they have "let the morons wait for my orders" option.

I've turned on wait for orders mode in these games to ensure anyone with spotty internet access is able to get their moves in per the request of the TD and assistant TD. If issues occur with this setting being abused then it will be disabled.
Poor GT thread, nobody feeds you, don't die on me now...

Clear.
The final round will determine a winner by most number of solo wins. The tie-break will be total centres (counting equally from draws and survives).

If you require a pause, please e-mail @ webdipmod feel free to cc myself or zultar. Do not vote pause.

Let's all have fun out there.

Your's truly Lando the dethronized GT director!

The waiting for orders feature is supposed to be a measure of last resort not the freaking norm for every phase. Get it together people.

Split, do everyone a favor and NEVER reference Rule #3 in regards to this Gunboat tournament again. The site may actually explode due to excessive amounts or irony the next time this occurs.

Rule #76: No excuses. Play like a champion.

Only rule that matters.
Ok,that's your excuse for breaking the site rules repeatedly. I know you are allowed to break it but still...

phew!!!! So I just caught up on the last month of posts... what drama! Looking forward to a first complete game in the finals... I started a new job June 1, but looking forward to playing with all again soon -- maybe as soon as next month after we get our second quarter financials out (and kiddies are back in school!)... Fairfax - if you win, I expect a cut of it for helping you squeak through that first round!

Hi everyone. Could someone point me in the direction of some general gunboat strategy, especially classic? Things like opening moves for different countries, how to "coordinate" with players given the restrictions, etc. Pretty please thank you!!

IPCC finally admits that it was lying to us all
You've gotta love this:

My stance on global warming for the last year has remained the same: The IPCC were exaggerating their claims, and that while global warming is happening, its not happening as quickly as climate scientists think.
