"Shut Down" Bullshit by Obama
If we don't Federal Workers to man the WWII memorial...how come we have enough to pay the guards to put up barricades and stand guard to prevents WWII vets from visiting? How come Obama still seems to have staff at his *golf course*?

Seems Barrack Dickhead Obama has a very selective vision of what "shut down" means...

DEBT CEILING NEGOTIATIONS
If nobody has ever negotiated on the Debt Ceiling, as Obama and the intellectually vacant around here say, …then how did we get Sequestration after the Debt Ceiling negotiations in 2011. Sequestration was *Obama’s* plan, by the way.

So how long does a player remain a Political Puppet and then move on to Member, Experienced, etc?

Is it a matter of how long you've played or how many times you've won or drawn? Or is it just based on time spent on the site? Just curious. Thanks for your help....

bill still seems to think the elite wanted to divide america so lincoln was a problem for them. but i am not so sure. lets say he did not declare war on the south and let the south kick out the norths military from their territory, would that have really benefited them much?

Fog of war variant
Correct me if there is already one, but wouldn't it be cool to have a variant with 'fog of war'? You would only be able to see enemy units in territories neighbouring your own territory/armies. The uncertainty would make things very interesting.. perhaps with additional distance limitations on conversation as well

GUNBOAT TOURNAMENT
As has been mentioned, I am hoping to run a gunboat tournament. I intend it to be basic but also comprehensive. I will detail some "things" below. I would like to get a read on who would be interested in playing.

OK, I now have an internet connection again. Let me clarify a few things here:

First off, you're all welcome to argue that I've been a bit curmudgeonly, but I'll point out that I was also right: Our group finishing second did change the outcome; had our group finished first, I would not have been confident that taking a 4-way draw instead of a 3-way draw would let me qualify (yes, ava, you owe me an apology now). And, if so, Fairfax would have qualified ahead of Gen. Lee.

I should also note that I was almost never the last player to submit orders (the times that I was, it was due to my travel schedule and the risk of an NMR if I readied). So, although I saw an advantage in playing slowly, I chose not to do so out of respect for the other players in the game.

Second, yes, Split, I am unwilling to play with you on the basis of what you have admitted doing. What you have admitted doing was using information freely available on the site to determine which player was which power during your games (and contacting them and doing other things which have not been well-defined). I'm happy to accept your contention that the actual messages were harmless; however, this was supposed to be an anonymous gunboat game, and you broke anonymity. Note that this is not a cheating accusation because breaking anonymity in that way has been deemed not to be cheating, but if the mods were to rule the other way and come around to my position that it should be deemed cheating, I'll gladly take my enforced vacation from the forums (in my view, it's a violation of "Don't work around game messaging/press rules.", although the way that rule's written, I certainly understand the mods' interpretation that it's not a violation).

Given that, if I play seven games with you, I would expect you to determine who I am and play accordingly, and my only defense would be to do the same thing, and probably respond by attacking you from the outset in every game where I can, because that's my best strategy for winning given that you're a strong player who sees me as your strongest opponent. I don't think that's fair to the other players who want to play seven strong gunboat games, so I'm not going to put us in that position. If you go back on your word and do not drop out, then I will, because I'm playing for fun, and it's not going to be enjoyable for either me or the other players to have me preferentially attack you from the outset.

Finally, ava, you are the last person who gets to lecture me on what I promised (if you read what I've written, you'll note that I've never broken my word in this thread; it's simply not something I do). You promised after the first round not to NMR again. How did that go in the second round? (Yes, ava, you owe me a second apology now.) In any event, what I agreed to do was to play out the round and attempt to qualify. As it turned out, I was successful in my attempt to qualify, so hopefully nobody has any cause to think I haven't lived up to that agreement. It appears that Lando had a different understanding of the situation than I did, and I'm sorry about that. I have not been communicating with Lando, so he was getting his information at best second-hand, and something may well have been lost in translation.

I would definitely enjoy playing some games with rdrivera, Gen. Lee, Lando, y2k, and a couple of other strong players who won't NMR.

N.B.: Is there an EoG thread somewhere? I've been away and might have missed it.

CS, Split was able to figure out who everyone was through a lapse in the site functionality which has been corrected. Point ordering is ordered in a manner that is not predictable, tested and confirmed by the team and Kestas. Our apologies that it caused so many problems before it was fixed, but it is no longer an issue. In addition, the moderator team already dealt with Split's case. It was resolved. If we felt that he was going to continue to play inappropriately then he would have a red X next to his name. Assuming that "he will play accordingly" is closer to a metagaming accusation then I'd like to see here. If you don't like him for personal reasons fine, but do not imply that he will metagame in any or all of his gunboat games. Now, whether you play is between you and the TD to decide, but refusing to on the basis that you don't trust the moderators ability to enforce our decisions seems like a cop out.

@Everyone else, this is a matter for the TD to sort out. Zultar will get back shortly to this thread with the finalists. Further arguments on this thread is only going to hurt the tournament though, so please give Zultar time to reply and clear up this issue.

Guys, figuring out who is who in a semi-anon game, where you know the 7 players, just not which countries are assigned to them is more than easy. Furthermore, if someone, like you CS, is also active in the forum, one can figure out which power you are in his game, because you can accidentally enter moves and comment on the forum at the same time.

It has happened to me many times I figured out 1-2 countries by accident, without checking login status, missing points, and so on. And where's the line between deliberately checking login status or accidentally seeing your competitor being logged in via forum posts.

As long as the site itself provides the information which directly or indiretly helps breaking anonymity I consider it as tools which anyone can use, since, as I stated, these information might surface accidentally as well.

Solution: don't show login status (or just the day) and only show total points (not available or points in play at all).

about a tournament: I used to play in Gobbledydock's GB challange, 7 players, 7 countries, and I didn't win because by the last game, it was clear who is who, solely based on the 6 other games were already finished.

That's what a tournament is about, winning the 7 games combined, not winning 7 separate games. The best would be if games were paued before the last turn, so noone would see who is who, until all 7 games are finished. But to refer my case, I didn't win Gobble's tournanment because all the others new, if we finish a 4-way I lose the tournament if it's a 3-way I win. Guess what, they drew it a 4-way, without communicating. It sucks, but that's how it is, when it comes to tournaments.

If mods, by any chance, rule against players who deduct who is who, based on publicly available information, caused by the site itself, they are moderating, would be ridiculous. Especially in cases where all the 7 players are known, just their country assignments aren't.

Going further, there are certain play styles, which are specific to players, like Split always opens the first 1,5 years the same way with England, which I always identify I see him. But I could continue this list, like Barnett's England opening, Vaftrudner's german builds in case of 3 builds etc. These are pubicly available information, and why on earth would be someone a cheater, whatsoever, just becuase he recognizes a certain playing style? And I just can't see the fine line between this and any other publicly available information.

It sucks, I don't like it either, but it's the site's fault one can do this, without extra effort, and not the player's.

1 more solution: phase turns and checking for entered orders should happen hourly or every 2-3 hours only (live games excluded)

So if players enter orders, still "!!" would appear to everyone else for the next 120 mins maximum, resulting even if you post in the forum, noone could see you have actually entered orders at the same time. Also this would prevent players to react on possible NMRs since they wouldn't be able to decide whether it's a NMR or just hidden orders, so they wouldn't risk changing orders last second, therefore having no advantage compared to those one who are not online at phase turn.

Just eliminate order status for any player whose name isn't shown (i.e. everyone except yourself in a gunboat) so only TDs and mods/admins can see the order status in full.

+1 for Draug's idea
Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))

+1 draug.

But I also like the idea roka had about pause. Pause if not instructed by the TD could be the draw button, once the game paused it would only be unpaused and scored when all other games wrapped up. This would have worked better for the prior 2 rounds though since the finals are mostly all about solos. But this would prevent the final game from being about someone counting SCs in the previous 6 and playing until reaching a specific number to win.

Finishing the games after the other group - this is just like any sporting tournament where the last few games might see adjusted strategies because every team knows every other teams outcome and there's nothing you can do about
It even if the games are played simultaneous a la EPL and man city's title clinching last 5 minutes after everyone else finished. I see nothing wrong here.

Split figuring out who was who. I did too. This is why I didn't turn around to eliminate turkey in the game where me, y2k and josunice stalemated your France. I did it because I knew you were France. Call me a cheat all you want but I have broken no rules.

NMRs - yes I apologize for the one instance but can you please just piss off already so we can start the next round.

I'm with you gen. Respond to the moves on the board and you'll be more successful than if you try to game the system.

Roka - I'm not sure I completely understand your points. Regardless, seven people will deal with the same constraints. I hope s decision can be reached soon so we can move on.

Ok, enough with the nonsense.

CSteinhardt has agreed to play on, so everyone will play on. As TD, I am officially requesting that no more game related posts are to be made until the games are over. Any further comment that might affect to-be-on-going final games will result in a silence (I will ask the mod to silence the offender for at least 24 hours).

I want these last 7 games to proceed smoothly and without issues. Any problem or perception of problem should be sent to me via PM and not the forum. Thank you for your cooperation.

Vow,CS,first of all I'm surprised you consider me as such a genius. I have to dissapoint you though as I haven't managed to develop this metagaming strategy. I'm not a doctor, you know,I'm not so smart. I see you studied it a lot though, welldone!
I never did it,never think of it nor was intending to do it against you. If I did it I would be kicked out of the site. They would ban me if I eliminated someone only because of his name.
I wasn't thinking of you and I don't know why you think I see you as my strongest opponent as there are lot's of better players in the finals imho.
Besides you can't win a real gunboat if you are focused on a single player. You would realize it if you played one.
I thought you wouldn't play me because you considered me a cheater. But you just said basicaly you didn't want to play me because I would have kicked you ass in the game.

There are several things that, in all fairness to the other players, I feel really need to be cleared up before the next round starts, since I'd consider myself unethical if I failed to do so. However, I also have to comply with the TD ruling, which means that some of the following post has been redacted to avoid the possibility that it "might affect to-be-on-going final games". I've communicated the redacted bits to zultar, who will presumably pass along anything he feels necessary.

[redacted due to zultar's post].

I also [redacted due to zultar's post].

This creates the possibility of [redacted due to zultar's post].

As a result, the gloves are off for this round, and therefore [redacted due to zultar's post].

@Split, you're clearly [redacted due to zultar's post].

Of course, you obviously understand that [redacted due to zultar's post].

@ava: [redacted due to zultar's post]. [redacted due to jmo's post]. [redacted due to zultar's post].

As for better solutions to [redacted due to zultar's post].

@rokakoma: That's a great idea. However, you might want to consider [redacted due to zultar's post].

@Draugnar: That would solve a lot of problems, and I can say that unabashedly here because your plan is obviously not going to be implemented in time to affect the upcoming games.

@Gen. Lee: That wouldn't quite work because [redacted due to zultar's post]
