Boston area residents: Stay at home today!
There's a developing and dangerous situation in Watertown, Cambridge, Belmont, Waltham, Boston. Authorities have shut down the MBTA and asked for businesses to close, and people to stay at home.
See the news for more details (one of the bombing suspects is apparently dead, the other is on the run).
Just in case some people check this website more often than their news.

A lot of focus on the Boston attack was on the two deceased people
I found that horrible, particularly the eight-year old boy. But let's not forget the people who are seriously injured, missing a leg, or an arm, or even both legs. I deeply hope the people who are now being hunted by the FBI are the ones who did it and that they will pay dearly for their crime. Them and whoever helped them do it.

Any Gun Enthusiasts on here?
I am curious as to what the best, reasonably priced (up to 3 or 4 thousand) Assault Rifle (apparently no longer an acceptable term, but we all know what I'm talking about here) would be. To be clear, I am talking a fully automatic weapon for guerrilla/insurgent type warfare. Something that can take a beating, won't need constant replacements after field use, etc. Legality within the U.S. is not a concern, black market availability is.

MeepMeep, I love you. You're everything I aspire to. You're an inspiration to all the bank workers in America who hate Asians and really want to look into the bus driving career! I hope you realize how valuable your personality is to this site, your coding knowledge is far too invaluable for us to let you leave. And what's most impressive is that you've accomplished so much, but you're not even out of eighth grade yet!

New SyFy Series: Defiance - Your thoughts?
I watched it last night and found the production values and special effects to be quite excellent, the acting sufficient, the story good (although the whole "Romeo and Juliet" story is... well... obvious derivative is obvious), and the concept enjoyable (although derivative as well - think Firefly meets Babylon 5).

its on my profile page. so go check that out. anyway here is something else - they are now repeating the line that you can find out how to make a bomb online - more excuse to shut down the internet. and another thing - i hear this analyst talking about how the underwear bomber had a sophisticated device, etc, not even mentioning that it is now known to have been the cia and mossad behind it in an alleged "sting" operation. more disinformation to the public.

so i am reading up on the independent media

"As the Boston Globe tweeted today, "Officials: There will be a controlled explosion
opposite the library within one minute as part of bomb squad activities."

is this true? was there a bomb drill in boston on that day and if so how often are these drills? is it reasonable to guess it was just a coincidence?
blankflag (0 DX)
16 Apr 13 UTC
another claimed source is University of Mobile’s Cross Country Coach Ali Stevenson told Local 15 News that 'drill' was repeatedly announced before the bombs went off.

but these are all preliminary so i dont want to jump to conclusions. but how often are drills if this is proven to have been the case
blankflag (0 DX)
16 Apr 13 UTC
if this was the case then their confidence about their control over the media is insane, because that is just what was proven to have happened in almost every single other major terrorist attack, a drill for the same threat, happening at the same time as the actual incident.
blankflag (0 DX)
16 Apr 13 UTC
ok disregard those messages i was researching the information to post on my website and i saw the evidence for it. apparently that eye witness said they were telling him it was just a drill. but now it is unclear to me if they told him that after it happened just to calm the crowd or what, and i dont feel like reading further into that. and the other one has a screenshot of a twitter feed showing the boston globe tweeting there will be a controlled explosion, but that looks to be after the bombs went off and describing a controlled explosion of remaining suspicious packages/bags. so neither really proves anything.

of note - both of these came from the not always credible alex jones media empire. so... there you go.

blankflag (0 DX)
16 Apr 13 UTC
the runner suspects it was cover for the officials actually being tipped off to a threat. which is sometimes how they do it. before the event they say 'we have credible evidence an anti-totalitarian is going to plant a bomb at the start of the race' then when it goes off at the end of the race everyone in the police/etc there goes out with a suspicion of who did it, and the media will often pick that up.

Interesting story... my local paper paraphrased Obama as saying, "We don't know if it was planned and executed by a terrorist organization, foreign or domestic, or a benevolent individual." I was stunned, because if there's one person I was completely certain was *not* responsible, it's a benevolent individual.
krellin (80 DX)
16 Apr 13 UTC
The poll: It is simply a reflection of what the media pumps in to people's heads, as the only way people can have an opinion for which they have *zero* data is because of the bias that has been fed to them by their particular choice of broadcast lies.

hecks (164 D)

It is unusual to ask people's opinions on the matter. I mean... given that there aren't any facts released about responsibility, what this poll is really measuring it not people's opinions, but people's unfounded suspicions. In short, you're not measuring what they think, you're measuring what they're afraid of.
krellin (80 DX)
16 Apr 13 UTC
...and those <not> "unfounded" suspicions are based upon what they *think* they know about the world based upon the media that they consume.

The real question is: Which of Obama's lackeys wanted this poll conducted, and for what government spin-machine purpose?
hecks (164 D)

@ krellin

You're wrong. The very fact that no one has claimed responsibility for it yet is a huge piece of evidence. As is the style of the attack. In the UK when we had bombs go off there would be a queue of people claiming responsibility... Various Irish republican factions, the lunatic wings of Islam, Neo Nazis, British Gas... all insisting it was down to them. That no one credible has done so for Boston is very interesting.

bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
16 Apr 13 UTC
The bomb was designed in the same way that Al Qaeda designs their bombs. Not claiming responsibility makes it look strange though.
krellin (80 DX)
16 Apr 13 UTC
Octo - you, my friend, are drawing conclusion. You are also drawing conclusions that the average moronic American wouldn't be intelligent enough to draw on their own unless the media told them to.

The poll of average americans is simply guaging the limited reporting they have heard, coupled with a decade worth of consumed media by which they draw their opinion.

It's like after every shooting, immediately people try to claim right wing wacko, left wing wacko, terrorist, etc...all based upon their personal biases...

...and then the truth comes out and everyone was wrong.
