Christmas Music: How Soon is too Soon?
A local station went to an all-Christmas-music format last Monday. I say that's too early. What's your personal acceptable threshold for listening to Christmas music?

Zimmerman arrested for pointing shotgun at girl friend
George Zimmerman arrested again on multiple charges for threatening his girl friend with a shotgun. If this had happened before the trial it would have established of history of solving problems with violence.

The missus is teaching a college-level art history class, and has reached the unit on comics, both comic books and comic strips. She requests your thoughts on the following question: What single work/artist would you say has had a major impact on the development of comics as an art form?

Mold on a HotDog...
We just found mold on a hot dog in our fridge...which I must say i was quite surprised to find. I truly thought the hot dog was invincible...

My faith in modern food science is slightly diminished. If anyone has encouraging words for me, I'd appreciate it.

But abge, most people (and I do not exclude myself from the pending comments) already exist wholly alone in every conversation. Oh, they are certainly aware of ghost-like whispering floating around them...shadows of thought that pass by them as they spew....but they can never fully wrap their consciousness around said thoughts...and thus they trundle on down their gloomy passageways, speaking to the wind as if it might care.

In the absence of the ghosts around us, we would be too lonely, methinks...

Just as an aside, re: moldy hot dogs and all, I originally was going to make chicken for dinner, but when I pulled the bag-o-breasts off the third shelf and untied the twisty, I was favoured with an odor most unkind, and upon placing my hand within the bag to pull one of those little buggers out and bring it to my nose for a closer olfactory inspection, my tactile sensor recorded an excessively slimy sensation.

Naturally, I quickly closed the bag and rushed with it to the family room and open the bag close under my wife's nose and asked her to breath deeply to verify my suspicions...

The moldy hot dogs were the back up plan. They typically live in the cheese drawer as a backup and are rarely called upon for duty...hence their miraculous and unexpected state of moldiness.

As for the chicken...well, the wife was out of town for three days this week, and the chicken was purchased just prior to her leaving, and I didn't want to befoul the clean kitchen in her absence, and thus the youngest and I enjoyed the restaurant life like an elderly retired couple in her absence, thus leaving the fowl meat to waste.

A whitelist (perhaps in addition) would have been better, there are actually people here who post things I enjoy reading. I just don't want to have to deal with all the ridiculous propositions that are always "in the money" because they take more time and energy to refute than to put forward. By the time anyone has dealt with ridiculous proposition A, you find that B and C have already popped out of the queue. It's never-ending.

I do hope you realize that everything I've said in this thread is complete nonsense (except that refrigerator thing. Krellin, you should really get that checked out).
krellin (80 DX)
17 Nov 13 UTC
@abge - Oh no....the refrigerator works just fine. And since I cook frequently, and I usually take dinner left-overs to work for lunch, it is typically a mold-free zone.

the hot dog discovery was truly a surprise...it is something that we rarely eat. And the story of the chicken -- i.e. wife leaving, not cooking while she was gone -- is really why the chicken went bad.

Though I do appreciate your concern. :)

THINGS I'VE NEVER FOUND MOLDY: Potato chips....not even one of those bags that has like just slivers and crumbs that got balled up really small and pushed back to the top of the refrigerator where nobody could see it unless they were doing like a *super* kitchen cleaning on step-stools to do the tops of cupboards and stuff.

So yeah...potato chips a freaking *amazing*!
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

I have a serious problem eating things that never go bad. If mold won't even touch it, why should I?
tendmote (100 D(B))
17 Nov 13 UTC
@abgemacht No I thought you were being sincere, and I was trying to be polite. Anyway, now that I know you've got nothing, I'll try to think of a way to prevent forum threads (in general) from getting saturated with propositions that take more effort to refute than to put forward.

Well this potato chip things is like a new, sudden revelation. That being said, if my body can somehow incorporate whatever protects that chip, I'm not sure why I would *not* want that lining the critical cells of my body.

Ignoring the ridiculousness of that, I'd like to point out that your gut is filled with very important microbes. If mold can't live off those chips, do your think your little stomach friends can?
tendmote (100 D(B))
17 Nov 13 UTC
I should do more mute experimentation, and that works for straightforward idiots, but the thread as a whole gets derailed by people with actual skill at shotgunning it with topics.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@tend

I don't mean this in a dickish way, but if those are the types of conversations you like, you should really go to a site that has a real Forum with categories. The conversations here are always haphazard and easily hijacked. That's how we roll.

@abge - If 44 years of potato chips haven't killed me yet, they must be making me stronger, surely...

Generally speaking, I eat healthy, though, if you are expressing real concern. I actually take cut veggies to snack on at my desk and on orange most days, and then eat and apple with lunch, and dinner includes veggies. Potato chips are hardly a main stay in my diet, and I think the limited quanitity of junk food I eat is survivavble....but I appreciate your concern. I think the body is a very miraculous machine, able to expel much of what it does not want or need.

Abge is right, alot of breads and such with preservatives cause serious damage to your intestinal flora.
tendmote (100 D(B))

@abgemacht Fair enough, yeah I noticed. I had avoided anything resembling a "real" conversation for a long time. I reckon I got successfully trolled.

Candida is on the rise in the US, and no surprise when evrrying is eating corn syrup in EVERYTHING and ruin their flora with preservatives which krelly the know all dismisses it because "If 44 years of potato chips haven't killed me yet, they must be making me stronger, surely..."
What a retarded thing to say. If you would die over night from the shit they put in food everything in the store would be organic really.

I wouldn't consider it trolling, necessarily. We just have very fluid conversations. I actually find it refreshing compared to most other websites, where conversations are partitioned into discrete sections. I think our Forum allows people to have much more natural conversations.

Of course, there are downsides, too. But since there are so many places to go if you really want to use a structured forum, I don't think they're that big of a deal.

ILN - life expectancy in the US is on the rise, and at quite a dramatic rate, I might add...

So contrary to typical hysteria that our food supply is killing us, the evidence says you are wrong.

As for my specific health, I go to the doc, and my blood work is awesome, as is heart and all the other vital crap.

FURTHER...instead of getting your panties in a bunch about a ridiculous conversation about potato chips, I did say that for the most part, I eat quite healthy....and I also believe the human body is quite resilient. I walk with confidence that my occassional hand in the potato chip bag isn't going to kill me...and if I'm wrong....damn, oh well.

Your excessive concern over every little thing is mostly likely going to give you cancer though.... :P Worry/fear cause stress which causes toxins to build up in your body and lower your immune system. My joyful lack of worry over my bag of potato chips is keeping me wayyyyy healthier than you. So there.
ILN (100 D)
17 Nov 13 UTC
Lol I eat chips too. Unlike you however I acknowledge they're shit for my body. Still take em anyways....
ILN (100 D)
17 Nov 13 UTC
And krelly, I'm rather happy and stress free. Aside from doing school projects the night before, I pretty much have no stress.
krellin (80 DX)
17 Nov 13 UTC
I never said they were healthy. You implied that if you believe it. I just don't think that occasionally indulging in potato chips is really that bad for my body. If you actually think that eating potato chips is terrible for you, why are you eating them? i think most people say "they're shit for my body" but don't *really* believe it...they are just repeating what they are told.

Tell me *specifically* how and why a good dose of potato chips is "bad for your body". and note, I said a *dose*, not a daily diet.

The 2nd Amendment
Everyone has their own opinions on it, but I feel rather strongly that 2nd Amendment rights should be supported, as it is not only necessary for self-defense, but as a measure of self-expression.

This summarizes my view nicely
