Christmas Music: How Soon is too Soon?
A local station went to an all-Christmas-music format last Monday. I say that's too early. What's your personal acceptable threshold for listening to Christmas music?

At which point did the Nobel Peace Prize lose all credibility?
Which of these really made it into the joke it now is?
1. When Kissinger got it
2. When Al Gore got it
3. When Obama got it

Zimmerman arrested for pointing shotgun at girl friend
George Zimmerman arrested again on multiple charges for threatening his girl friend with a shotgun. If this had happened before the trial it would have established of history of solving problems with violence.

Completely justified^ He is such a good man why can't the press leave him to his nice peaceful contemplative life of happiness and goodwill
President Eden (2750 D)

This should end well.

An arrest on that wouldn't have established a history of solving problems with violence... a conviction would. Given how poorly the press handled the Trayvon Martin case I'm going to wait and see on this one. Certainly doesn't look good on the outset, but neither did the Martin case.
Invictus (240 D)

(+5)
A "history of solving problems with violence" wouldn't have changed anything in the trial. Zimmerman was over-charged due to political pressure. The prosecutors never could have proven their case based on the evidence of what happened that night.

If it turns out these new accusations are true then he should get whatever the law says he has coming to him.

You guys are being too hard on Zimmy. This isn't like him at all. His gf isn't even black!
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
19 Nov 13 UTC
Zimmerman could go rob a liquor store tomorrow and that still wouldn't change the Martin case.

Zimmerman is a grade-A scumbag but he was justified in shooting Martin.
Invictus (240 D)
19 Nov 13 UTC
(+2)
We absolutely can't say Zimmerman was "justified" in shooting Martin, just that Zimmerman's actions were acceptable under Florida's self-defense law. Not its "stand your ground" law, which wasn't part of the case at all, but its regular, uncontroversial, similar to many other states self-defense law.

Him being a grade-A scumbag, though, I can probably agree with.

Calm down there killer, it was an easy joke ... I had to take it :-)

I'm a gun-totting, ground-standing, concealed-carrying Arizonan, after all.
Invictus (240 D)

Make the joke, but realize it's just perpetuating one of the more egregious examples of how the public was wildly misinformed about this case by the media.
Mapu (362 D)

Haha too funny. Nothing gets perpetuated from webdip.
philcore (317 D(S))

Yeah, but here its just perpetuating it to people who already have their minds made up anyway. I love our English counterparts, but they'll never be swayed that our gun laws make sense. Ironic, considering they're the reason we have them ;-)
Invictus (240 D)
19 Nov 13 UTC
It's not about whether gun laws make sense. It's a simple fact of the case. The stand your ground law wasn't part of Zimmerman's trial. At all.

The facts are simple, she was on top of him, pounding up and down on him and screaming obscenities, in this situation if you have a fully loaded weapon it won't be long before you are ready to discharge and give her what she deserves.
It was obvious she was having more success than him, he was wedged between her thighs and she had him where she wanted him, bystanders also reported her as shouting through the screams " shoot baby shoot", what judge would ever convict a man in this situation, unless it was some dirty rotten lesbian.

PE, of course Zimmerman has been in several domestic incidents before, perhaps that is sufficient history.
Then again after killing a black kid after writing a check his ass couldn't cash, I don't expect much from a Florida jury after merely pointing a shotgun at his girlfriends head, forcing here out of her house and breaking her shit
Randomizer (722 D)
19 Nov 13 UTC
They'll probably convict him for the property damage because no one likes having their stuff broken.

The cops will push the gun charges because they are tired of having to deal with him. Every time Z hassles some one they have to fill out a tree's worth of paper work.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

Also, muzzle discipline FAIL for pointing a shotgun at someone. That's how accidents happen. That woman could have gotten her head blown off.

Idiots like Zimmerman don't deserve the privilege of owning firearms.

My biggest question in this whole ordeal is how George Zimmerman had a girlfriend.
Invictus (240 D)
20 Nov 13 UTC
Well, no matter how big of a douche he is in real life he's almost certainly got a big paycheck coming from his suit against NBC for editing audio to make him look worse and present that as the original. I'd say that's a pretty good reason to date him for a while.
in a way it's all nbc's fault
Al Swearengen (0 DX)

Didn't really follow the Zimmerman saga.

Did want to comment on something that Gunfighter said, which basically alludes to the fact that you never point a gun at someone (unless you intend to shoot them). I wanted to point that out for the benefit of our international readership, many of whom I might assume won't have taken a firearms safety class.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

1. Always assume that all weapons are always loaded with live ammunition
2. Never point a weapon at anything that you are not willing to destroy, kill, or pay for.
3. Never touch the trigger or place your finger inside the trigger guard until ready to fire.
4. Know your target and what is behind your target.

If you violate any of these four rules, you are not responsible enough to own a firearm.

I had to double check that that was gunfighter! The most vocal about gun *rights* just called it a privilege? Wtf?

@Gunfighter: Are you proposing that the government can legally take the guns away from what you consider to be irresponsible gun ownership.

"You guys still use paper over there?"

Multiple paper copies of everything in addition to the computer version depending upon how far the criminal complaint goes. The paperless office is never going to happen here.

Castle episode last night showed a police records room with rows of shelves holding boxes and boxes of paper records and evidence. They also mentioned the computer version.

In OJ's case, he was railroaded for the second offense then put in prison where he was beaten. Nobody batted an eye, of course. But people will likely still go to the mat for Zim, here, because his domestic violence was well known before his killing of Martin.
Invictus (240 D)
20 Nov 13 UTC
OJ committed a new crime. That's why he's in prison.
A crime that hardly fit the punishment and with an accuser that wanted to drop all charges and put it behind everyone.

The 2nd Amendment
Everyone has their own opinions on it, but I feel rather strongly that 2nd Amendment rights should be supported, as it is not only necessary for self-defense, but as a measure of self-expression.

This summarizes my view nicely
