Christmas Music: How Soon is too Soon?
A local station went to an all-Christmas-music format last Monday. I say that's too early. What's your personal acceptable threshold for listening to Christmas music?

At which point did the Nobel Peace Prize lose all credibility?
Which of these really made it into the joke it now is?

Zimmerman arrested for pointing shotgun at girl friend
George Zimmerman arrested again on multiple charges for threatening his girl friend with a shotgun. If this had happened before the trial it would have established of history of solving problems with violence.

Comics!
The missus is teaching a college-level art history class, and has reached the unit on comics, both comic books and comic strips. She requests your thoughts on the following question: What single work/artist would you say has had a major impact on the development of comics as an art form?

Writing Thread
Haven't had one of these in a while and it might help cool everyone off. What are you writing/have you written?

Besides my main book project, which is a philosophy book about survival, I am writing a fiction about a country in civil disorder, and several essays on my website, and erotic fiction. No, I won't post any of my erotic fiction. Yes, you can make fun of the fact that I'm writing erotic fiction.

What about you guys?

Good thing you clarified, I thought you were writing about Russia going into civil disorder in one of my ongoing gunboat games.

"Country in civil disorder" -- as in dystopian future stuff, which is all the main stream right now? Tell me about this - I've very curious.

Not quite dystopian. It's about a nameless country in which there is a lot of rioting, heavy handed police and a dictator. From both sides of the conflict there are good and evil deeds and the question it's really raising is whether rebellion is justified? Can a dictator be good or at least be unaware? Are the rebels better than the dictators? Those sort of dilemmas.

So my main character is a student who is pro-government and doesn't really realise what's going on as he has a good life. He has influences from both sides. A side story is a cop that is chasing down the rebels and realises that he is in a dictatorship slowly discovering shady things going on in the police. There will also be rebels who commit questionable acts.

I'm not sure, but I think the rebellion is ultimately going to fail.

Cool thread! I'm writing a couple things:

1. Editing my senior thesis from college before the end of the year to possibly attempt publication.

2. Finishing/editing a giant "personal philosophy" manifesto I wrote in 2011. It's like 100 pages.

3. I've been writing a sonnet or two a week, because I've always wanted to try to improve my poetry writing. I can post a few if anyone is interested (I'm not saying they're good, though, so)

4. I have been feeling the need to write a tract on anticonsumerism. It's been a primary focus in my life lately. Probably because I re-read Walden this summer.

5. I want to write a short story but I feel out of practice with fiction. I have a list of ideas I want to do later but only when I've wrote a few to get my fiction writing ability to a level that would do the ideas justice.

Sure, if you want to see it in its unfinished state. The nuts and bolts are there. Just needs polishing and an appendix or two. PM me email?

The 2nd Amendment
Everyone has their own opinions on it, but I feel rather strongly that 2nd Amendment rights should be supported, as it is not only necessary for self-defense, but as a measure of self-expression.

This summarizes my view nicely
