Extortion
So, do you think extortion can work as a tactic in Diplomacy? If so, in what circumstances?

Personally I don't think it'll work unless they're on their last legs, and even then only if you phrase it as "do this, and I'll keep you alive" type thing.

CD confusion
Say there is an anonymous game, and in it a player CD's. someone then takes over that nation, and the game ends, and reveals 1 players name. I am assuming that that is the latter players name, is there anyway to find out the player who CD'ed's name?

`For taxable years beginning after the date of the enactment of this section--
`(1) no credit shall be allowed under the internal revenue laws with respect to amounts paid or incurred for an abortion or with respect to amounts paid or incurred for a health benefits plan (including premium assistance) that includes coverage of abortion,
`(2) for purposes of determining any deduction for expenses paid for medical care of the taxpayer or the taxpayer's spouse or dependents, amounts paid or incurred for an abortion or for a health benefits plan that includes coverage of abortion shall not be taken into account, and

After reading up on this "IRS Audit Abortion" crap, I've come to realize it has minimal backing (despite what left-wing media would have you think) and is no different than using FSA credits for elective plastic surgery. They just don't want voluntary procedures (and a voluntary abortion cause you don't want the kid is a voluntary procedure) to get a tax break by having it paid for out of an FSA. There are easier ways to go about it, though, like having the physician performing the procedure do the qualifying as to whether or not it is life threatening, a result of rape, or just a "convenience" abortion. So it is stupid to even have it presented as something the IRS should have to worry about.

I was just typing up my paragraph when yours appeared Putin. As you can see, I did do the research.
"Of any broadcaster/opinion-giver/hack on TV, at least Beck is about THE ONLY PERSON to ***consistently*** give the research for his claims. I DEFY you to find any pos talking head on MessNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS etc that actually DOCUMENTS their claims.

All you idiots that hate Beck, I'll put a $1,000 on the table that 95% of you assholes never even watched Beck, but instead just hate him because of the slander thrown out their by his competition.

HE choose to leave Fox because he is thinking of going private; paid internet channel.

Maybe if any of you morons did research instead of jumping on the uninformed hate-wagon you would have a clue. Instead, you come off looking as informed as such smarties as Katie Curic and friends...lol."

I watched beck everyday for a summer. My roomate and I made a routine of it after work, the trick of it is to pick all the flawed arguments and logical leaps he makes with the "evidence" he uses.

Its great to see you have fallen into his trap. The chimpanzee waves around a piece of paper which he reads selectively and takes completely out of context and a whole bunch of chimps like yourself listen to him. Thats "research," right, if you would like me to rip apart some of his research from his site, please let me know.

I grew up in pretty small-town America, and I now live in the Detroit area, and I have to say that small-town America actually seems to have a wider diversity of churches than similar land areas within cities. In our town of 1200, there were 5 different churches (one Catholic, and four different flavors of Protestant: Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, and...uh...something). All of which were doing fine.
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Apr 11 UTC
And personally, I view an abortion of convenience as not being eligible for a tax break any more than a face lift or breast implants. An abortion in the case of incest/rape or to save the mother is mroe along the lines of reconstructive surgery after an accident or breast replacement after a mastectomy and should be tax deductible. But most abortions are because two idiots decided to fuck without protection and don't want the result.
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Apr 11 UTC
@SD - The point is that the Catholic Church kids aren't likely to pray with the protestant ones and the MEthodist and the Baptist have very different views and wouldn't pray together. And finally, the majority of the kids going to the churches are rarely as devout as the parents and couldn't care less about a prayer group.

@Draugnar:

"And personally, I view an abortion of convenience as not being eligible for a tax break any more than a face lift or breast implants."

And if the abortee is a single mother who's trying to support children and is pregnant because she was raped coming home...?

That's not a necessity, it's a "convenience?"

" I view an abortion of convenience as not being eligible for a tax break any more than a face lift or breast implants."

But really this is typical Draugnar. Express outrage about "Mother Jones" and the JEWISH LEFTWING MEDIA and then when he actually realizes what that the reports are true, he then says "what's the big deal? Abortion is like breast implants! It's cosmetic surgery! Pregnancy is a piece of cake. There are no health risks whatsoever."
SacredDigits (102 D)
08 Apr 11 UTC
I understood what you were saying, Draug, I was just pointing out the myth of many people's perception of small town America. It's not as religiously homogenous as the earlier argument suggested.

Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Apr 11 UTC
@SD - I was raised in a sort of small town, so I know what you mean. My point is that very few towns left are run by one church. The "Footloose" town where one preacher may as well be the dictator just doesn't exist any more. Even small towns have discovered (as you point out) diversity in religion.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)

OK, fair enough, Draugnar, you DID state that...
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Apr 11 UTC
@Putin - refer to my comments to Obi for taking the exact same statement out of fucking context. The paragraph made it very clear there is a difference between an abortion for convenience and one for rape/incest/health of the mother. Why do you two insist on only reading part of a short paragraph and grasping on to that part lucking fucking bulldogs. FUCK!

I think you're oversimplifying a very complicated issue Draugnar. Reproductive freedom a very different matter than just cosmetic surgery, and I think it's problematic to start saying "This woman deserves reproductive freedom. This woman only deserves it if she can afford it." (Which is essentially what it comes down to in this case.) Having a baby is a much much more serious matter than a smaller nose or bigger breasts.
Putin33 (111 D)

"he paragraph made it very clear there is a difference between an abortion for convenience and one for rape/incest/health of the mother."

I read what you said. You're trivializing the risks of pregnancy and making it seem like abortion is an easy decision. You're making it seem like every so-called "elective" abortion is a case of irresponsible women. Your statement was and still is supremely idiotic.
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Apr 11 UTC
@Mafia - we are talking about FSAs and insurance here. If she can afford an FSA, then she works for an employer who provides insurance as well. therefore she can afford the abortion. And the point is that taxpayers shouldn't pay for elective procedures that are medically or morally necessary by iving them tax breaks. Nothing in the code says the insurance company can't pay for it, just that part of the insurance premium would become taxablke and money from an FSA can't be used to reimburse for it. How many unemployed wlefare mommas have FSAs? Hint: NONE! FSAs are a tax shelter for those who can afford to put aside some of their PAY before taxes knowing they will be using it for medical purposes or, in the case of child-care FSAs, child-care needs.
Draugnar (0 DX)

I'm afraid the American medical system is a little too complicated for me to understand. I'll retract any comment on the issue not because I don't feel strongly about it but because I just don't understand the American system well enough. At any rate I feel that if you're in a country with public health care, that system should cover abortions.
VeryMetal (100 D)
08 Apr 11 UTC
You wanna understand tha American system? OK here goes. The American system dictates that you buy insurance for a PRIVATE insurance company or else the IRS will deduct it from you taxes...Nice...........
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Apr 11 UTC
The US isn't a country with public healthcare, though. Otherwise we wouldn't have FSAs and insurance. Instead we have a private healthcare where the indigent and poor can go in and get it for free (the law requires hospitals to care for all) while everyone else has to pay out the ass to compensate and, as a reault, insurance rates are through the rough and covering less and less, forcing individuals to pay more out of pocket despite their rising insurance costs.

My wife broke her foot at the beginning of January and despite paying almost $800 a month for insurance, we still had to cover the first $1000 of the bill plus 20% of everything beyond that because it was a new year which meant a new up front deductible.

Resigning could mean winning?
I've got a question. We're playing a game in which there's only three of us still alive. But one has already resigned so I was talking with the other player in order to settle a draw between me and him so my question is.....is the one who has resigned going to share the win with us (as before resigning he was smart enough to hit the draw button)? Because, as it is said in the rules, the draw means that the win is shared among ALL the survivors.
