I have heard experienced players make the argument that games with early CDs should just be canceled, however this allows the CDed player to anonymously get away with CDing without having a resign counted against his record.

People choose to cancel instead of draw due to the *false belief* that an early game draw can negatively and unfairly affect the ghost rating of the better players, who would be harmed by a draw shared with a large number of less highly ranked players.

This argument against the draw is moot since a game drawn in the first 3 years does not affect Ghost Rating. It is ignored when making the calculations.

Drawing in the event of an early game CD has the clear advantages of penalizing the player who CDs by docking his points and leaving the resign on his record, while ensuring the GR of everyone involved is not affected.
