Christmas Music: How Soon is too Soon?
A local station went to an all-Christmas-music format last Monday. I say that's too early. What's your personal acceptable threshold for listening to Christmas music?

Zimmerman arrested for pointing shotgun at girl friend
George Zimmerman arrested again on multiple charges for threatening his girl friend with a shotgun. If this had happened before the trial it would have established of history of solving problems with violence.

Comics!
The missus is teaching a college-level art history class, and has reached the unit on comics, both comic books and comic strips. She requests your thoughts on the following question: What single work/artist would you say has had a major impact on the development of comics as an art form?

"so hard for the disenfranchised shouldn't refer to alcoholics as drunks"

I didn't refer to anyone as a drunk. I said he wasn't committed to sobriety, aka he likes to drink.

If you're going to zing me for supposed hypocrisy (something you never do for the legions of Stormfront-drones on here), get your facts straight.

"I didn't refer to anyone as a drunk. I said he wasn't committed to sobriety, aka he likes to drink."

Yes, you're right. Sorry about that. The point remains that you were using an addiction to insult someone in an argument. This seems exactly like the sort of thing you would call someone else out on for doing.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
18 Nov 13 UTC
Anyway, I'm going to bed. I'm just saying that you often blast people for small remarks they make, even though you do it yourself. Perhaps the next time someone says "girl" instead of "woman" you should simply remind them it is insulting, rather than assuming they are chauvinistic pigs.

Also, why you think I'm holding some grudge about some conversation we had a year ago and on which I now agree with you is beyond me. If anything, you could at least accuse me of holding a grudge about you constantly ridiculing my profession, although, honestly that isn't even true.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Nov 13 UTC
"accusing them of being imperialist conservative racists."

That's a lie.

Unless you think Invictus agrees with me "99% of the time", that's not true.

"I can vouch for that."

Garbage.

Putin33 (111 D)

"Also, why you think I'm holding some grudge about some conversation we had a year ago and on which I now agree with you is beyond me."

Right.

Considering you're claiming this bullpuckey about me supposedly calling everyone conservative imperialist racists who remotely disagrees with me, I have my doubts. I was harsher a while ago, I admit, but I have not even remotely behaved this way regarding ideological disagreements here in the past year or so (despite being constantly provoked), if the new thing is that we expunge history.

Maybe we only expunge history for you. "But why are we talking about these ancient conversations"? Indeed.

One final remark:

I will freely admit that I do not call bullshit on most of the reprehensible things I see on this Forum. That's mostly because I come here on my free time, which I don't enjoy spending on fights like this one. Does that make you a better liberal than me? Maybe, but I don't consider myself personally responsible for all the injustices in this world and for the amount of good it does, arguing with people online about how they see the world usually doesn't seem worth the energy.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Nov 13 UTC
No, but you do think it's worth the effort to the attack the people who call it out, and you do think we should spend more time worrying about the feelings of the people who use this language than the victims, thanks for that. Good use of your time that you value so much.

I'm not a better liberal than you. But if the whole point of this 'constructive criticism' is that I can't differentiate my enemies from my friends, then I can only say that I only learned the lessons that my teacher taught me.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

"Maybe we only expunge history for you. "But why are we talking about these ancient conversations"? Indeed. "

Perhaps you have calmed down. I have not closely followed the long forum debates recently. If that's the case, I apologize for assuming you hadn't changed. So, if nothing else, we're both guilty of the same thing.

Hey Putin, have you EVER defended a point without trying to point out a way your opponent "does the same thing, but worse?" I mean you've done it like 3 times in the last page. It's a really pathetic tactic, and you need to stop.

@abge don't let the mouth here fool you, you don't have to be a militant prick to be a "good liberal."
steephie22 (182 D(S))

Most of you really don't know what you're talking about. I'll just line up some facts:
1. I don't know how long it has been, but it's definitely a long tradition.
2. Slaves have nothing to do with the tradition. The story is that Zwarte Piet ("black pete", geez... Can't even properly tell us who we need to get rid of...) got black because he went through the chimney (or however it's called) to deliver the gifts.

The only thing I have trouble with is that people dare to call it racism. Colour doesn't equal race, among other things.
krellin (80 DX)

Also, the woman from the UN (what the hell do they have to do with it anyway?), who came to tell us how it's wrong, looks exactly like Zwarte Piet. Seriously, she was wearing the costume herself. Honestly.

He got black because he went through the chimney, which also turned his hair afro, gifted him with ridiculously red lips and made him wear huge gold earrings. Not to mention kept his clothes completely clean. That's one hi-tech chimney.

The 2nd Amendment
Everyone has their own opinions on it, but I feel rather strongly that 2nd Amendment rights should be supported, as it is not only necessary for self-defense, but as a measure of self-expression.

This summarizes my view nicely
