Christmas Music: How Soon is too Soon?
A local station went to an all-Christmas-music format last Monday. I say that's too early. What's your personal acceptable threshold for listening to Christmas music?

Zimmerman arrested for pointing shotgun at girl friend
George Zimmerman arrested again on multiple charges for threatening his girl friend with a shotgun. If this had happened before the trial it would have established of history of solving problems with violence.

Welcome Abge

Before you are fully accepted by the members, there are just a few questions...

When a cricket ball is hit for 4 or 6 run, what must it cross?
What is the minimum distance between two square boundaries in test matches?
Are there any trees within the boundaries of a UK county cricket team pitch and if so where?

I love this discussion.

Yes there is a line. Yes it's ambiguous sometimes. And yes, it's good to debate where it is. I think literally everybody wants a good functioning site, where abuse is limited and free speech as broad as can be. Good that we're discussing how to balance that.
Sylence (313 D)

Beautiful, Kestas!
What a delight it is to see a text on this forum that shows perfect sense in every paragraph.

For saying such a thing as I just did, I know there is a certain set of self-proclaimed champions of.... I suppose "free speech", "democracy", "the little man, the people"... etc etc... I know not what.... who will spontaneously see such speech as an example of
spineless adulation.
Well, if it were so that you were *forced* to use this site, Kestas' site that he shares with Diplomacy-lovers essentially for free, there could be reason in this behaviour.

Fight for freedom! Good! Go out somewhere and do that, but why must it be for the freedom, the right, to spoil www.webdiplomacy from what it was intended by its creators and original client base to be used for.
A bit of humbleness would be appropriate. Like as if you come as an immigrant to a new land, you don't begin to fight against the "system" in place, for "freedom" the first thing you do. You should come with humbleness. If you choose to join the tribe and you are indeed welcomed you should be willing to adopt something of the prevalent standards already in use there (by the "elite"). Maybe you'll have suggestions for improvement, but your point of departure should be humbleness.

I want to thank abgemacht (also known as abge the supermod) for coming back to help out with the forum. I'm sure everyone's noticed recently that the current relationship with the forum and the moderator team wasn't working smoothly. Recently, the team was not able to keep up as well as we'd like with keeping games clean, since the majority of our internal discussions were related to the forum.

The hope is that this change will give everyone on the forum the environment to post what they want, while at the same time freeing up the moderators who are concentrating on keeping games clean.

I'll confirm what abge said, for the time being he will be handling all forum related issues. On the off chance another moderator beats him to discussions of ongoing games or outright cheating accusations they will still silence them as normal.

Please still send any issues to [email protected], abge will be using the email, so he will see any problems related to the forum.

This from the guy who dug through the page source code to circumvent the mute function.
SYnapse (0 DX)
18 Nov 13 UTC
That's the other way around. If I circumvent a mute I have on someone it's my own fault. However if you're muted you shouldn't try to communicate with the person who muted you.

I don't see a problem in this. If you don't like someone relaying a message from another user then mute them too, or mute the thread.
SYnapse (0 DX)
18 Nov 13 UTC
Fair enough. It's not exactly against the rules, but it runs against the spirit of having the mute function...

SYnapse, you claim you mute people a lot but often it's not true. If we test wether you lie or not, that's not circumventing the button, that's circumventing your continuous bullshit. But I'm sure you ignore this because you supposedly muted me.

(He doesn't have me muted I checked.)

Kestas has to be the nicest guy in the whole damn world.

If I ran this site, I would have kicked off at least a dozen people by now, not because of what they think, but because they are dicks and using my website to antoganize people who help me run it, which in turn makes it harder for 95% of the website users to actually use the forum.
I propose changing Rule 9 to - Stop being a dick to the moderators.

Moderators should be treated in the same manner you would treat your supervisor at work and your Mother in Law. Bitch about them in private but treat them with respect in public.
krellin (80 DX)

dyager - your use of offensive language is offending people and making this forum a little less than it could be.

@ SYnapse: "Jamiet please do not try to circumvent the mute function, it is akin to circumventing a silence."

Please do not try to circumvent the truth.

I am not attempting to circumvent the mute function. I am only attempting to circumvent your fictional, imaginary muting of me. You have not actually *used* the mute function in this case - I know you didn't have me muted because the system allows me to PM you. Forum rules do not require me to humour your flights of fancy.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
18 Nov 13 UTC
For whatever reason, the mute function doesn't stop pm's all the time, it just blocks them from showing up.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
18 Nov 13 UTC
Really? But, like, it stops them *sometimes* ?

I've previously attempted to PM someone who had me muted, and I got a message telling me it had failed to send...
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
18 Nov 13 UTC
yeah, it only stops them sometimes, I've tested it out some, but can't really figure out when/why. It does block them from being seen though, so I haven't added it to the list for Kestas.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
18 Nov 13 UTC
That's a world of weird. Presumably if I send SYnapse 1,000 PM's, if he did have me muted then eventually one of them would bounce?
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
18 Nov 13 UTC
I'm guessing that there's some common factor when it sends them vs when it doesn't. So unless you did something different they would either all be blocked or all go through.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
18 Nov 13 UTC
(+3)
Well, either SYnapse does have me muted after all, or his PM feed is now really clogged up with my test messages.

The 2nd Amendment
Everyone has their own opinions on it, but I feel rather strongly that 2nd Amendment rights should be supported, as it is not only necessary for self-defense, but as a measure of self-expression.

This summarizes my view nicely
