Christmas Music: How Soon is too Soon?
A local station went to an all-Christmas-music format last Monday. I say that's too early. What's your personal acceptable threshold for listening to Christmas music?

Zimmerman arrested for pointing shotgun at girl friend
George Zimmerman arrested again on multiple charges for threatening his girl friend with a shotgun. If this had happened before the trial it would have established of history of solving problems with violence.

Mold on a HotDog...
We just found mold on a hot dog in our fridge...which I must say i was quite surprised to find. I truly thought the hot dog was invincible...

My faith in modern food science is slightly diminished. If anyone has encouraging words for me, I'd appreciate it.

Sure, aspirin is made from something from which they have extracted something and processed it and refined it - and that means it is good for you? Why, because big pharma told you so? lol sucker...

And what, chemical preservatives are made from what? Moon rocks from venus?

You may say that chemicals in food should not be in foods...and I would challenge you to prove that. Seems to me that American life-span in increasing rapidly, despite all these terribly dangerous chemicals in our foods....or perhaps *because* of all these terrible dangerous chemicals in our food that give us a stable food supply...

Bottom line is, the uneducated sheep among us have this tendency to make blanket statements: "Chemicals in food are bad" while they gladly put chemicals in their body in all sorts of other situations, paticularly when it specifically concerns their health.

So let's see, those darn evil corporations making our food and putting chemicals in them...they secretly know that their chemicals are killing us, and they want us to die early because they want fewer customers, right?

Corporations are evil...they are only out to make a dollar by poisoning us, says the politically correct sheep, who doesn't realize that he's just parroting the propoganda of the anti-capitalists....

....and then he gets sick, and suddenly he turns to the very same big capitalist corporations and begs them for chemicals to save his life...

It's just a little absurd.

NO--- I am not saying that *everything* in our food is always good for us....but I am suggesting that far less is dangerous than what the hysterical anti-capitalist / anti-big-food crowd would have you believe, and it is your lack of education that makes your scared.

@ ILN: "For example, does krelly enjoy giving his children legumes or fruits sprayed with pesticides?"

Do you enjoy giving your children fruit containing Vitamin C? Vitamin C is otherwise known as ascorbic acid. It is a chemical.
krellin (80 DX)
17 Nov 13 UTC
ILN - A *pesticide* is not a food preservative, is it?

That is a classic example -- a food preservative which is added to keep a food from spoiling on the shelf is being compared to a poison sprayed on a crop to kill varmints as if they are one in the same.

Uneducated foolish boobery...

Lol Krellin, I'm not one of those corporations are bad organic food conspiracy theorists that works at a cooperative farm lol.
I'm just saying that the food industry is using some chemicals that are not fit for human consumption. You the consumer can always choose not to buy, like me. And don't try to pull a putin and group all against chemicals in food as chemo therapy takers, soda drinkers etc.
krellin (80 DX)
17 Nov 13 UTC
By the way...do a little research on organic versus non-organic....yo might be surprised at what you find out in terms of nutrition level contained in each...When a plant must fight off all the little pests by itself, it has less energy to develop nutrition....wooops...
Invictus (240 D)
17 Nov 13 UTC
I suppose instead of pesticides you'd rather we genetically modify the plants to be more resistant to pests.
krellin (80 DX)
17 Nov 13 UTC
ILN - I agree that not all chemicals are good, as I stated. I sure as heck wouldn't buy everything my grocery store sells....but when someone ignorantly states "Chemicals in food are bad!" and puts the period on the end of the sentence likes it's the end of the discussion, I have no use for such a mindless sheep. (who no doubt was sucking on a Coca cola while typing that....)
tendmote (100 D(B))

@Krellin, introducing a hypothetical hysterical anti-everything clown into the discussion means either 1) you think the other person(s) in the discussion is one of those clowns or 2) you didn't consider the other persons point.

I'm guessing 2.

Anyway, I'd eat the hotdog if not for the mold, but I can see why some people wouldn't. "Preserved" means "earthly microorganisms don't recognize it as food." I eat it because I'm tough enough to take it though.

The thing is, some microorganisms did recognize that hot dog as food. They're getting tougher.
krellin (80 DX)

Yes - I'm all in favor of GMO's....sorry....

Farmers have been genetically modifying plants since they figured out how to cross breed.

here's a classic example...look up the history of corn: http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/variation/corn/
ILN (100 D)

I see what you're saying Krellin and you're right about people who get their jimmies rustled over "chemicals".

Also, invictus, I oppose gmo.
Invictus (240 D)

Putin33 (111 D)

Except organic food doesn't involve non-use of insecticides (they're just not artificial chemical insecticides), so your argument doesn't wash.
tendmote (100 D(B))
17 Nov 13 UTC
I totally favor GMOs. Frankenstein foods and factory farming are the only way everyone on earth gets to eat. I know I mentioned that on another thread, but only rich people get to eat if we take a 5%-34% hit on farm productivity due to organic methods.

ILN (100 D)

Krelly krelly, its one thing to use natural selection, cross breeding etc, and another to put animal genes in plant DNA, like the introduction of spider genes in a tomato's genome, sorry. Far worse is that the gmo pollen spreads elsewhere...
Putin33 (111 D)
17 Nov 13 UTC
We don't have a choice since Monsanto controls the seeds and sues anybody who uses non-GMO seeds.
krellin (80 DX)
17 Nov 13 UTC
tendmote: 1 and 2. this is WebDip forum time, after all...which means that the hysterical "All corporations are E-V-I-L" type linger around and spew their nonsense frequently. Is this a new concept to you?

As for a hotdog...another perfect example of hysteria. It's meat, people. it's the little bits and pieces of animal that the butcher can't easily sell, and throw in other organic parts of an animal (of course it's organic...but we say that to make a point) and we grind it up and stick it in a casing and eat it. We add salt and other terrible awful evil chemicals and wrap it in plastic and sell it. How wonderful the hotdog is, because it means that we are capturing and utilizing more of the animal that otherwise might go to waste.

Is it the absolute best food around? Nope, but show me a person for whom every meal is the pinnacle of healthy eating, and I show you santa claws...<heh heh...he said claws...> Is it OK to put in my diet on occassion because it's easy, fast and cheap? Absolutely.

@putin, yes Monsanto is evil, not cause it an evil evil capitalist corporation, but because they have government support and subsidies in the US

Also, there was this one story where two neighbors had corn, one gmo the other normal, thanks to polination the normal corn had Monsanto's "patented" genome, and sued the farmer. Monsanto won. What a joke, the normal corn farmer had his property damaged!!!
krellin (80 DX)

The 2nd Amendment
Everyone has their own opinions on it, but I feel rather strongly that 2nd Amendment rights should be supported, as it is not only necessary for self-defense, but as a measure of self-expression.

This summarizes my view nicely
