Short Story of the Day
Hi! I am starting a new thread where I will post a new short story each day this week (each business day, anyway). I am hoping people will read and (if inclined) discuss the stories.

So, the following is my first forum discussion in the intro to business practice...
The topic of this forum thread was "Is Wal-Mart's business practices good or fair? Both or neither?"

the liberals will probably like my response and the conservatives hate it, but I think it will be an interesting discussion for us here and I got to refer back to a HuffPo article listed here sometime back. So COOL!

Of Twerking and Terrible, Terrible Pop Songs--What Do We Pay Attention To?
So until today I was blissfully unaware of what the VMAs even were, let alone (Facebook jokes aside) what happened there with a certain Ms. Cyrus and...you know, forgoing all of...that (though really, WTF?!) I'd rather ask another question--assuming that most here likewise couldn't care less about Ms. Cyrus or Mr. Bieber or *Insert Pop Icon For the Masses Here*...what DO we care about, and why does the majority gravitate to these things we raise eyebrows at?

I will be leaving this site (for now)
There is a very obvious reason associated with this, specifically that we are discussing the same thing over and over again, and not getting anywhere. I certainly enjoyed my time on this forum, but now I am moving on to a Traditionalist Catholic forum (http://catholicforum.fisheaters.com) because it sounds like a fun trolling project and I can't let Sbyvl get away from me. If you wish to contact me, you can't, because phones didn't exist in 1625 and that's the time I live in.

This site is not anti-Catholic. There's a fair amount of people who are anti-religion, but there isn't some widespread hatred of Catholicism as such.

Not that Sybvl36 was Catholic in any way I, a practicing Catholic, would recognize. I don't know what Masses he's going to that tell him the world is 7200 years old. I don't know what priests he talks to that tell him Salazar was a great man, or that all of St. Paul's letters were actually written by St. Paul. It's baffling. I even consider myself somewhat in the traditionalist camp. Now that there's a church in communion with Rome that still does the Latin Mass in the city I've moved to I plan to start going to that.

Syvl36 was just an idiot who gives conservatism and Catholicism bad names. Good riddance to him.

Btw, I found something hilarious after doing a quick internet search for "Sbyvl36"

He's got an OKCupid profile... which shows an 18 year old from New York.

Maybe its somebody else trolling, but I doubt it.

Its good to get corroborating evidence that he's a liar.

GG no re. when you ask someones age (after seeing their mental age is around 12 yrs old) and they reply with an exact age, like "30" or "25" or "35", its a lie, he didn't even have the creativity to say 32, or 33, no it had to be "30" lol.

" I don't know what priests he talks to that tell him Salazar was a great man, or that all of St. Paul's letters were actually written by St. Paul."

The latter is hardly an unusual position in the RC church, even if it's no longer anything like universal.

"Being a traditionalist how do you feel about the way the Pope has stretched an arm out to gays and atheists?"

The Pope's done nothing different apart from PR. I'm not happy with everything the Holy Father has been doing, but he's firmly orthodox in his theology. It just looks like he has a different position than Benedict because he is so much less formal.

As for the Pauline letters issue, I can't imagine any post-Vatican II priest would hold the position that Paul really wrote all the letters. My great uncle is a priest and became one abut ten years before the reforms happened, and he often talks about the low quality of education at seminaries before the Vatican II. He had to take beginner, intermediate, and advanced Latin all in the same semester, for example, and the other subjects' textbooks were 100 year old German written in Latin that the instructor translated page by page each day. While Vatican II was not a flawless reform it was necessary to shake things up which had been allowed to stagnate. Nowadays Catholic seminaries are not terribly different from getting a theology degree at a secular university, at least when it comes to a lot of the content.

So a Catholic priest under the age of seventy or so would tell you St. Paul probably didn't directly write all the letters due to that being the consensus of scholarship. That doesn't make them any less inspired, however.
Invictus (240 D)

To be clear, this may have been what they taught fifty years ago too. I just don't know. And my great uncle was at a missionary order's seminary from what I remember so his experience may have been atypical.

re: "Being a traditionalist how do you feel about the way the Pope has stretched an arm out to gays and atheists?"

@Celticfox: Invictus said it well: nothing has changed in substance, only in style. I saw a good blog post about it recently that sums up the perceived-Pope vs. reality-Pope that explained it well:

Its still on google searches if you want to search for it. Just do "sbyvl36". Comes up with a lot of crackpot Catholic blog, webdip, and some OKC. Says his age and location right there.

I'm actually glad there is nothing else that would narrow it down. Exposing him as a liar is one thing... having the ability to doxx him out is another, and its a line I wouldn't cross, but am also glad CAN'T be crossed.
