World War Two Diplomacy (Global Variant)
I was thinking about a World War Two Diplomacy Variant expanded to encompass the entire globe. Any ideas?

As many people noticed recently, gameID=103065 (2012 Gunboat SoW), had a very strange ending. This was the result of Azogar (userID=3149) inappropriately entering BreathOfVega's account and changing his orders in a deliberate effort to sabotage his account.

This is the most unacceptable behavior possible on the site. Abusing the system to gain access to another members account is completely inappropriate and will result in an immediate ban. Due to the extremely serious nature of this case the entire moderator team, along with Kestas spent a great amount of time making sure we were beyond positive there was no other explanation for what the evidence showed. In case there is any confusion about why this behavior is unacceptable see rule #6, quoted below.

“6. You may not access another player's account without permission”

This was the first “hacking” problem the site has experienced and the vulnerability in the system that allowed Azogar to perform this act of sabotage months after sitting for the account has been addressed and will not be a problem in the future.

As a result of this problem the SoW game ended up being won when it would have otherwise been drawn in a stalemate line. Due to the extraordinary circumstances Kestas has decided to revert the game and draw it, so that the conclusion reflects what would have happened without this account violation.

I have always changed my password for sitters that come onto my account. Maybe you could recommend in that statement that if a sitter is needed that the password either be reset or changed accordingly so that this doesn't happen.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)

BreathOfVega did change his password, the system was abused in a way that has now been fixed that allowed Azogar to continue logging in after the password was changed.
jimgov (219 D(B))

Why would someone hack into someone's account to alter a game...that they AREN'T PLAYING IN? That just makes even less sense than doing it to help yourself win.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
25 Feb 13 UTC
So you are saying that passwords were pretty much ineffective then? I don't see how that was the case... how could one log in without having the right password?
Its because he was never logged out, so he was never prompted to log back in.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
25 Feb 13 UTC
Does that have something to do with the "Remember Me" feature then? If he used two different devices, it's definitely easily abused, that much I can understand.
glomek (0 DX)

Anyone that has a win rate of 51% should be banned just for the likelihood of their corruption.
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Feb 13 UTC
You don't need two devices? Just two accounts on one Windows based computer as each keeps its own set of cookies. Or two different browsers on the same account. Or using the "private browsing" feature of Internet Explorer. For that matter, copying the cookie off to a separate location and copying it back.over whenever you want to take over. Hopefully the cookies now expire and we just have to periodically re-login.

jmo1121109: Can mods sort-of-not-really change how a game ended? I was always told that that was impossible and that only the point-diffrence could be corrected.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
25 Feb 13 UTC
No we cannot. That was Kestas's doing and decision, and was done this one time only because the result of the game was altered by someone maliciously who should not have been involved in the game's outcome.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
25 Feb 13 UTC
@JECE

No they cannot. Kestas himself needs to.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
25 Feb 13 UTC
@Draug .. yeah, true.
semck83 (229 D(B))
25 Feb 13 UTC
They wouldn't even have to have a periodic re-login, Draug -- just check to see if the cookie date was earlier than the most recent password change.

jmo1121109: Yeah, but cheating that irreversibly alters games is fairly common, isn't it?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
25 Feb 13 UTC
Yes, but generally not by someone that isn't in the game in any form.
Due to the extraordinary nature of this case, kestas decided to intervene and change the result of the game. This is the first time that we've had account abuse like this on the website, and its the fact that no one in-game was cheating. Rather, it was affected by a player completely outside the game
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

I disagree with this decision. Hacking into another player's account is well within the spirit of diplomacy.

So where do Kestas and the mods stand on hacking into another player's account to alter orders for games you are in?

I'll leave it to Draugnar the legal beagle to answer his own question

“6. You may not access another player's account without permission”
Maniac (184 D(B))
25 Feb 13 UTC
Can I just mention that on the facts of this case rule 6 above wasn't technically broken. If the offender was asked to babysit the account he must have been given permission to access the account. One could argue, of course, that permission was withdrawn but for that to succeed it must be clear that the offender knew that the permission had been withdrawn. If no one asked him if he knew or not then we cannot be sure.

TIME FOR REVOLUTION!
I heard from a very reliable source that the government gives black women $400 a week? That is, and I quote, "$28,000 a year, better than minimum wage, just for being women and black."
Now, I know krellin is on my side for the revolution to take down all women, but when injustice like this is being taunted in our faces, I feel obliged to take action! WHO'S WITH ME?

Unread Mail in Gunboat games
I've had it happen before (in completed games) that the unread mail icon has shown up in one of my gunboat games. What's that all about? Moderator messages? Naturally, one can't read these in a gunboat game, since there's no global tab.

First place units, than give orders
I was thinking, whether is it possible to make pregame for build. Players would choose what type of unit they want to build: land or fleet. For instance. Austria would be able to place 3 land units. It might be interesting, because placing the units may indicate the intentions of players...or not. Of not as an constans variant than an option in advanced settings.

Testing semck's theory
Hey THUCY you know blacks were NEVER enslaved? They're not even from Africa, you dolt. Why else would we call them African AMERICANS? And don't even get me started on black WOMEN, easily the most privilege citizens in the country. You know the government gives them $400 a WEEK? That's $28,000 a YEAR, better than minimum wage, just for being WOMEN and BLACK. You pitiable FOOL. I feel bad for you, son, believing these diluted liberal LIES.

World Map
What's your favorite country to play as? Alliances to form?
Of course, the map is quite unbalanced, but I just wanted to see. World strategies are much more complicated than Europe.

I'll start: favorites are Russia and Argentina. Favorite alliance, Russia-Near East or Libya- Near East

SAVE, NOW CLICK ON NOT READY
Does anyone else feel the frustration I have when players do not press the NOT READY icon after pressing SAVE, I can understand if they need the full time if they are busy with other things, THAT'S LIFE, but when everyone else's orders are in showing a GREEN TICK, why needlessly hold the war up and its worse on builds and retreats, for those out there that do this, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE, time to WAKE UP!

diplomacy for idiots
The purpose of this game is to open in the most ridiculous way possible. In the Spring of 1901, you must have a crazy and idiotic move. Anyone who opens with a "real" opening will be ganged up on and beaten, followed by a six way draw. P.M. me if interested, and I will give you the password and Game I.D.
