Are we allowed to pay for other people to play?

Since we are paying cash, will there also be a points award?

My hope is that a "Tourney" button will be added between "Settings" and "Help." When you click on it, you will see a link for tournaments organized by year. So there will be a 2014 Tournament link, and under that, you will see a link for this tournament. Click on that and you will get the tournie info and once the tournie is done, the winners at the very top. If we have another tournament by the end of the year, we will also add that tournament under the 2014 Tournament. As before, all tournaments have to be approved by the mod team and TDs must fill out the TD form.

So, these tournaments are then partly site-sponsored or site-featured tournies, and we hope that they will encourage competition.
PS: We are still working on reliability rating, but it's done, it should be very helpful to setting up these tournies.

Please make sure the "Tourney" button is not too close to any other buttons. We've had problems on this site with buttons being too close together.

GR is already under Help, abge. It's fairly prominent there, and really, I would prefer to just make it as part of the user profile. That's on my agenda as well.

What would the point of a higher buy in be? We aren't winning the money.

@abge: yes, you can pay for another player's entrance fee.

@ssorenn: If by "higher buy-in" you mean cash, then, no. I plan on making the cash buy-in as cheap as possible. There's no cash reward for placing and pricing on plaques are about $8 plus $14 s/h. That's $22-$23 per award for 7 awards. The rest of the cash goes to the site for allowing me to set the tourney up.

If you mean higher D buy-in, then yes. We can set the buy-in as needed or requested by the players. The only requirement is that everyone who signs up can play in the game(s) they're set for. I personally don't care if each game has its own D buy-in or not, so long as it allows everyone who should be in the game to actually buy-into the game and also as long as it doesn't prevent players from getting into future games because they spend all their D points getting into prior games.

@abge: yes, if it was gunboat, I'd be paying you :) I suck at gunboat. Played once, and lost. I'd be a good candidate for the Gunboat School of War (sad as it sounds).

Let's run a side pot off site too. Everything's better when money's involved.

Sorry, ssorenn, but I don't think Kestas and I will agree to that. If it's site donation, it's fine, but "side bets" are gambling and we are not at all comfortable with that.

@Tru, would this work if people send me the donations instead and I will reimburse you? I can also send you the money before hand so that you don't have to pay out of pocket.

Once we get signups, I'll link you to the site, give you the specifications and you can order the plaques and have 'em shipped either (a) to my place or (b) the winners' places after the games are over.
