Game 1: Betrayal

Good game. Felt I was going to be out early for the whole early-going. Somehow Italy and Germany couldn't get on the same page. Italy got stabbed, continued attacking me and subsequently lost. Germany had to deal with Russia so all worked out.

Once I had some breathing room I went and took LVP and BEL to give me some security. Likely not my best choices, but I felt as though a 4 way was worse case with those moves. I also figured a 3 way was extremely likely.

@England (twa) We had WAR and MOS to lose and we together had tremendous position against GErmany. Why did you not work with me to eliminate him for the three-way draw? Consider 1907 and I think it was extremely feasible. I had the line all set up in the west and really did not need you there. We had great opportunities and it is a pity we lost them.

$ way draw is a good result, and jmeyers had a very impressive showing. A good game to all and I look forward to finishing the series.

As Russia: I saw that Turkey was going anti-Russian and that Germany's moves pointed to a bounce in Sweden. My thought was that a zero build Russia is a very attractive target and that rather than go down quietly I'd try to create problems with Germany so as to attract England's attention to him rather than me. Obviously this didn't work though I did make some progress against the German. Turkey's decision to build a fleet to take Black and continue his efforts against me even as it was clear that Austria was his main enemy and was on good terms with Italy sealed my fate. As a result, I decided to do what I could to bring about the Turk's death which I was happy to see.
Lando: I can go into more detail a little later tonight, but I think you might have answered your own question. I didn't help you finish Germany in 1907 because you took Liverpool in 1905, which perplexed me quite a bit as it was already becoming obvious that Austria was going to be trying to break out of the Med through you pretty soon. Prior to you doing that I WAS planning to squeeze Germany with you, but after I just didn't trust your judgment, to be honest, and I was more concerned with making sure Austria didn't have a chance to take Munich or break into MAO.
OK, that makes sense and is what I figured. However, I made every attempt I could subsequent to taking LVP to show you it was just for the build and not an attack. My impression at that time was that I needed another fleet to fend off Austria. Further, I perceived myself as being the one who could be squeezed out especially if you built another fleet in LVP.

Is there anything I could have done subsequent to 1905 that would have allowed this to happen?
Good game to everyone anyway, that was fun.

As Italy, I was tilting at windmills and living a fantasy, which was shot down by my Turkish friend. I was excited about an all-out attack on France, which I don't think I have ever done before, and left my flank open. Then I delayed a turn, hoping that Turkey would have a global perspective lol, but 'twas not to be. Austria vacated Venice for a bit, which I appreciated, but with Turkey in Rome, my dream castles crumbled and fell out of the sky. But I got to live the fantasy for a bit, so I have no complaints. :-)
Lando: It depends on what you mean by the "this" in "allowed this to happen". Do you mean is there anything you could have done afterwards to get me to crush Germany and go for a France-England-Austria draw? Not really... I was out of position to defend against you, so I had to abandon my plans to attack Germany to try and stop you.. I'm not sure why you thought you were going to get squeezed, really; I had just started attacking Germany, and not you, when you went after me.

Anyway, like you said, it was a very enjoyable game, thanks to everybody :)

Italy why the hell did you support France into tri giving him the solo?
Turkey proved that he didn't want to attack you anymore so your participation in the final draw was secured.
Jesus that's what I call stupidity.

Subs needed
Hey all, I'm looking for 3 subs for the Masters tournament. It's currently stalled, and lots of players are (rightfully) frustrated. It's two games at most and they'd be starting ASAP. Reliable, experienced players preferred.

For Profit Colleges over Public Funded Colleges
An illuminating argument put forth by Andrew Rosen in a new book called "Change.edu." He puts for the argument that publicly funded universities no longer see students as their customers, and that this accounts for the glaring failure of America's publicly funded higher education system.

Filtering players
Is there any way to filter out players without making the bet stupidly large?
I'm in a world game where South Africa, Ghana, Libya and Argentina have given up almost from the first round giving FA and Kenya a massive advantage.

It has been happening in other games too.

To PhD or not to PhD.
As my education is finished in one year, my interest is shifted to possible future employers. Since I'm still undecided about doing a PhD and I know there are quite a lot people here doing/having done them, I have a small question for all of you: Why did you choose to (not) do a PhD? Which factor played and important role and which only a minor one?
