Italy why the hell did you support France into tri giving him the solo?
Turkey proved that he didn't want to attack you anymore so your participation in the final draw was secured.
Jesus that's what I call stupidity.

Subs needed
Hey all, I'm looking for 3 subs for the Masters tournament. It's currently stalled, and lots of players are (rightfully) frustrated. It's two games at most and they'd be starting ASAP. Reliable, experienced players preferred.

For Profit Colleges over Public Funded Colleges
An illuminating argument put forth by Andrew Rosen in a new book called "Change.edu." He puts for the argument that publicly funded universities no longer see students as their customers, and that this accounts for the glaring failure of America's publicly funded higher education system.

HOLY SHIT!! This was for a time one of the best gun boats I've ever played in. Throughout the entire game, I had one move that indicated any kind of mutual benefit, and that was Turkey preventing Russia from taking St. Petersburg. However, towards the end, some of the most annoying things I've ever seen occurred!

First, Turkey and Italy could not get along. After Italy squandered his opportunity to kill Turkey for all intents and purposes and go for the solo, he refused to actually realize that France was going to solo himself if the two of them didn't patch things up.

Second, Russia... wtf? It would have been nice if just once you had supported me while France was attacking and doing his best to solo! I know I took Scandinavia from you, but that's a bad reason not to help me and you took Norway the first turn!

Finally, Italy, f*ck you! Absolutely despicable to resign while you're holding up the front line against a solo attempt. Maybe something came up, but I doubt it. I think you saw you couldn't win and didn't think you'd be able to stop the solo so you just left. I hope I never have the displeasure of playing with someone who does that again.

Russia:
Now that all that pissed off rage is out. Good job sticking around. You could have been gone years before the end of the game, but you stuck around and actually ended up with more centers than me.

Turkey:
Well played. Italy should have stamped you out, but instead you fought back and were a nuisance in his side large enough to prevent him from soloing.

Germany:
I apologize. I basically screwed you over in my attempt to gain an alliance with France that never came to fruition. You played well, and I enjoyed playing with you.

Austria:
You have to watch out for the crusher. I've seen it end the best of Austrias

France:
Well played good sir. Sucks how you won at the end, but I think with the fighting in the East you would have won either way. Autumn 1905 was the turning point in our relationship. I put my order in literally a second too late, and North Sea sat still instead of covering London. Had I covered London, you would have had one less SC and I would have had one more. I think it would have ended in a 3 or 4 way draw had that one move happened. You outplayed me, though, and I give you credit. Though, I tried to form an alliance with you for the first few years, and you just kept building fleets. Every time I was like Jesus Christ!

Italy:
Once again, f*ck off

If the best gunboat you ever played involved a win due to CD, you need to play more gunboats.

I said it was for a time. The beginning of the game was great tactical moves and great luck allowed me to survive. It tailed off very quickly once the endgame approached.

you should learn mr. patty, maaake sure, next time anyone is attack you and your neighbor, they're never going to stop. :)

It's NEVER been the case. I must admit I shouted a plethora of profanities when you took kiel, but all's well.

This was a REALLY awesome game imo... and not only cause I won. It was one of the first live games period (that I've participated in) that everyone was active from the get go, and no one flat out missed a turn the whole game until Italy threw in the towel. I was lucky that Italy didn't take a chance to stab me sooner... by the time he moved fleets in my direction I was more than covered. My favorite part of the game was my early slip into Germany and Russian territory... I feel this added to the struggle on everyone's front. Anyways.... good game to all involved... I really wish Italy had put up a fight all the way to the end, but either way... well played!

BTW Pat, I feel like if you had built an army on your homeland earlier to combat my sparse fleets moving around the area you would have been better off.

It's possible that would have worked to keep England safe from your fleets. What really hurt me was not getting a build year 1. It allowed you to match me in fleets. England needs an advantage in fleets against France or it's basically game over, so I never felt comfortable using a build to get an army... live and learn I suppose :)

lol and I do apologize Sandgoose... I actually meant to give back Denmark in 1903. I was going to take Sweden to keep my SC count the same and allow you Denmark, hoping we could team up against France. However, when France took Belgium, I resolved that you were on your way to defeat and decided to take my share of the pie... sorry :)

Hello: i was Turkey in that game and I share your anger towards Italy. he should've left me alone the minute he saw France was getting too big.

I commend you for how you played. I thought you were going down the same way as me when France and Italy both turned against us full force, but you came back pretty strong. I just wish Italy had seen what was going on. Russia and myself probably would have been eliminated, but I would prefer that to the way France won, no disrespect to France.

Filtering players
Is there any way to filter out players without making the bet stupidly large?
I'm in a world game where South Africa, Ghana, Libya and Argentina have given up almost from the first round giving FA and Kenya a massive advantage.

It has been happening in other games too.

To PhD or not to PhD.
As my education is finished in one year, my interest is shifted to possible future employers. Since I'm still undecided about doing a PhD and I know there are quite a lot people here doing/having done them, I have a small question for all of you: Why did you choose to (not) do a PhD? Which factor played and important role and which only a minor one?
