Subs needed
Hey all, I'm looking for 3 subs for the Masters tournament. It's currently stalled, and lots of players are (rightfully) frustrated. It's two games at most and they'd be starting ASAP. Reliable, experienced players preferred.

For Profit Colleges over Public Funded Colleges
An illuminating argument put forth by Andrew Rosen in a new book called "Change.edu." He puts for the argument that publicly funded universities no longer see students as their customers, and that this accounts for the glaring failure of America's publicly funded higher education system.

If you can find Stanford listed as a non-profit California corporation let me know. It isn't listed on the Attorney Generals website.
My company is, but of course it's for profit.
It has a 501(c) which by definition is a non-profit organization.

"Colloquially, a 501(c) organization or simply "a 501(c)" is an American tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation or association. Section 501(c) of the United States Internal Revenue Code (26 U.S.C. § 501(c)), provides that 28 types of nonprofit organizations are exempt from some federal income taxes. Sections 503 through 505 set out the requirements for attaining such exemptions. Many states refer to Section 501(c) for definitions of organizations exempt from state taxation as well."
someone repost that for dipshit

from their website... also, having just skimmed your thread, there may be some other problems with your arguments. For-profit schools do enable students to take out student loans. Their default rates are higher than non-profits.

Stanford is run by a corporate trust, not a corporation, but I cannot find the trust registered anywhere with the AG's office.

@TC

"Blow it out your hypocritical sensitivity out your ass."

OK, I will:

Your inability to process information is astounding. I highly suspect you suffer from a rare form of late-onset shaken baby syndrome.

You started this conversation about for-profit private schools; however, your examples all seem to be of non-profit schools. Both Standford and MIT qualify under 501(c). So, I ask, what obtuse definition of "for-profit" are you using?

Barn3tt, I accept government records thank you.
You are the kind of moron who would go to Barney Madoff's home page to see that he was a reputable financial adviser.
Stanford is registered with the state of California somewhere in some way, and it is a public document.

If you are all knowing then find it. I can't even find the name for the corporate trust that owns/is Stanford. Is isn't Stanford Corporate trust. I already searched the AG's records for that.

Well nonethelss, if Abgemacht wants a "for profit" that isn't private, but is solely a business model I will find one.

Went to the National Center for Education Statistics to find engineering graduation rates and found some enlightening stats.

For profits are most effective at the associate degree level.

Students enrolling at public institutions for an A.A. degree completed 20.6%
Students enrolling at for profit institutions for an AA degree completed 57.1%

And don't use the excuse that public institutions get the worst students.

Public institutions had a 36% enrollment of high risk students.
For profit institution had a 54% enrollment of high risk students.

Almost twice the success with 50% higher at risk populations than public institutions for an AA degree.

Let the bullshit excuses fly!!!!

lies, damn lies, statistics
TC changes the subject after he makes a patently false statement and cannot defend it. What a surprise. Shows that he went to a public institution...

How about the obvious counter...

FOR PROFIT DEGREES ARE A JOKE.

They complete more because the programs are easier.

From Education Week.org
The 2012 U.S. News and World Reports' Best Colleges ranking to be released on Sept. 13 will include for the first time for-profit colleges and universities that grant bachelor's degrees and are regionally accredited—many of which are online programs.

Go figure. For profit universities sucks shit right? So why would US News rank them?
I didnt say where they would rank them, only that they would rank them. Probably against each other.

Flawed logic.

TCs forte

But I'm glad that he at least sees his flawed logic, which is why he quickly posted his last post in anticipation of the gaping assumption he made

For profits right now seem to focus most on non-traditional students, anyone who isn't a pimple-faced just graduated high school in May teenager, in associates degrees and specialized certification, and are growing rapidly in this area.

Now of course if a critical mass of students enroll in for profits across the nation watch the Federal government socialists/liberal/statist morons announce that "you aren't smart enough to understand your relationship with a for profit school" and the federal government will step in and regulate them.

Only a matter of time. Same old song and dance. You "average American" do not in any way possess the wherewithall to fun your affairs as effectively as a bureaucrat trained to apply a cookie cutter solution to your life after reading a one-page form you've filled out.

Graduate rate in no way indicates success. Are they getting jobs with those degrees?

How about answering my real question:

Are there any decent engineering for-profit schools?

After reading this thread I really can't tell if TC has spent so much time trying to convert weak-minded people with this propaganda drivel that he's lost the ability to form a coherent argument or if he, himself, is just one of those weak-minded individuals.

Abegemacht, I was hoping you could come up with some kind of defensible excuse, but you can't even do that.

I guess you think that not graduating 80% of the students that enroll "indicates success." Are those 80% getting jobs?

I mean at least try to be intelligent. I know its hard.

You are an engineer I guess, and that explains a lot. Turn off the computer and go outside of a building and interact with "real people." Then you will sound so much less insulated than you do now. It's the reverse for me. I'm pressing flesh all day long in person face-to-face so the glow of the pixels is a break.

No decent engineering for-profit schools. They specialize in the time being in non-traditional students in associates degrees and specialized certification, and are growing rapidly in this area.

But given the stupidity of anyone and everyone in a government job this means for profits will no doubt start encroaching on other degree programs including engineering in no time.

"I guess you think that not graduating 80% of the students that enroll "indicates success." Are those 80% getting jobs? "

I don't know of any engineering school that has an 80% failure rate. And, if they do fail out of engineering, they still usually get some other degree. And, even if they don't, at least that's money they saved not graduating with a degree that's worth less than the paper it is printed on.

" I'm pressing flesh all day long in person face-to-face so the glow of the pixels is a break."

Yes, I can tell how good you are with people based on your wild assumptions based on my degree.

It's really sad that the reply when confronted with statistics to see a "default" defense of "socialist institutions."

I guess that why so many people need the money my company generated in taxes last year, they are just dense and can't understand things.

Oh well. You can cure dumb.

Abge, I guess you can't read is the word "engineering" anywhere in my post about 80% failure rates.

Nope.

But I guess sense you can't figure out a defense of a socialized institutions failure you go into to default "stupid mode."

Carry on.

The problem with "for profit" institutions is that there are a fair number of bad apples/diploma mills out there. These cut down the reputations of all.

Socialized institutions? Sounds like the latest gimmickry jargon from some Koch Brothers funded think tank! Once those words rolled out, much of the argument lost credibility. Care to try again??
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)
16 Feb 12 UTC
No one is forcing anyone to go to a for profit university. In fact they cost more than public education so if they are diploma mills and no one gets jobs with their diplomas then why are they open?

Care to try again?

If you do you will be preaching to the choir because POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF you are gone from the real world.

Enjoy your socialist fantasies and good luck with them.

See Greece for how your fantasies will end.

Bye!!!!

To PhD or not to PhD.
As my education is finished in one year, my interest is shifted to possible future employers. Since I'm still undecided about doing a PhD and I know there are quite a lot people here doing/having done them, I have a small question for all of you: Why did you choose to (not) do a PhD? Which factor played and important role and which only a minor one?
