A possible addition to the site
On VDip Oli added an "Extend" button, in addition to draw/pause/cancel. This delays the next phase for 4 days and could be used instead of the pause feature for short pauses and could speed up the whole process. Thoughts?

what's up with clooney/jolie/etc?
1. who is "directing" them to see the issues that support the elite agenda
2. are they proposing anything real, here, or just complaining?
3. are they aware that their "activism" is going to result in who knows how many deaths from the us military as has happened in iraq afganistan libya.
4. why does their understanding of world events remind me of an elementary school student exposed to too much propaganda?

WTF!
gameID=83522

Why in the world did England draw this game here. Russia and Italy could have been eliminated and probably France as well without much difficulty. It was bad enough that Italy continued to attack me the whole game instead of stopping Turkey but this ending was enough to make me spit. I fought off both and for nothing. Worst game I've ever been in.

Happy St. Plastered, er, Patrick's Day!
So, to commemorate the occasion...everyone, raise a glass--

And say what you most prefer to fill it with--favorite drinks/cocktails, everyone?
:)

My personal favorite--

Hennessy Cognac...

And on a trip to San Francisco, had the best drink EVER in my life--

Cognac, Rye, Lemon, and something else I forgot...amazing.

Subutai (139 D)

Hennessy is quality. Also the Remy Martin VSOP is a great cognac. I've been into bourbon lately, Basil Hayden, Jefferson, Woodford Reserve, Elijah Craig. Of course today requires the old reliable standby: Jameson. Good enough for Stephen Colbert and good enough for me.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

When did you start drinking, obi?

Here's a question... Am I expected to drink something specifically Irish, or just to get drunk? I have some beer and mead, but I'd have to actually leave my house to get anything else. The problem: It's Saturday and I'm a lazy asshole. What to do?
If we're talking favorite drinks... Irish Car Bomb.

And, since this is St. Patrick's Day, I'll say my favorite *beer* is, of course, Yuengling.

Well, then I have to suggest to you my favorite drink: Sherry.

Try cream sherry if you like your drinks sweet, or Oloroso if you wanted something drier. Haven't had a Fino, so I can't recommend it.

Although, for you, I'd have to recommend Amontillado. : )

The Last Word:

Chill small rocks glass

In a pint glass filled with ice mix equal parts (1oz):
Lime Juice (fresh)
Plymouth Gin
Luxardo Maraschino
Green Chartreuse

Stir vigorously and strain into chilled glass

@ obi: that sounds like a Vieux Carre

@ Putin; obi asked us what our favorite drinks/cocktails were, not what we'd be drinking on St. Paddy's Day. Drinking cocktails doesn't make a person a snob anyway, it just makes them drunk ;)

I'll be drinking Guinness and having shots of Jamison in about an hour.
Happy St. Paddy's Day!!!

Putin, you embarrass America every time you try to speak for us with your holier-than-though ideas and attitude, condescending tone, snobbish outlook on anyone who dares disagree...

And then have the AUDACITY to knock cocktails on St. Patrick's Day.

How DARE you, that is just, so, so, so offensive, why, why I oughta... *pause for a trolling Putin comment...*

Given that Pádraig is Patrick in Irish, Paddy is diminutive for Pádraig, and we're talking Naomh Pádraig here...

That was a good night. Started out with some whiskey, continued onto gin and a Tom Collins, and ended on more whiskey.
Putin33 (111 D)
17 Mar 12 UTC
Except Patrick wasn't Gaelic. So..er...
Yes, but Pádraig is Irish for Patrick, which comes from the Latin Patricius ("of the patrician/landed/ruling/etc. class"). The Irish word has non-Gaelic origins.

And, indeed, the root of this borrowing is the man known now as St. Patrick.
ulytau (541 D)
18 Mar 12 UTC
Bitch please, don't go all etymology nazi on poor Putin or he'll label us all as racists since Paddy can be a derogatory term for all Irishmen...

@largeham I also managed some Beefeaters yesterday, went well with the beer.
largeham (149 D)
18 Mar 12 UTC
Haven't had Beefeaters, only Gordon's and Bombay Sapphire are served here. My friend told me to mix whiskey and lemonade, which was actually quite nice, much better than I expected. I also tried this weird, but good, lemon flavoured tequila beer.
SacredDigits (102 D)
18 Mar 12 UTC
Whiskey and lemonade is referred to as Lynchburg Lemonade in the US. Or at least in the parts I frequent. Beefeaters is about at Gordon's level, I personally like Tanqueray for gin.
largeham (149 D)
18 Mar 12 UTC
The Lynchburg Lemonade looks good, but according to Wiki, it is a proper cocktail, quite a bit more than some Red Label mixed with Sprite.

I can't say I know much about the quality of the different brands of gin, but IIRC Bombay Sapphire is considered better than Gordon's. And Tanqueray is above that.

Uuuuuuughhhhh............

Well--

After last night...

I can cross E&J brandy off the list...a friend suggested it--

Half a glass later and I spent the night on the bathroom floor, then out cold on the couch.

Hey, I had a teen-worthy night...

I never drank as a teen, so I probably have the alcohol-view of one; ie, "Wow, it's exciting and new!"

...It's less exciting and new after last night, though. ;)

I didn't know people called saints by slang nicknames. Maybe people call today "St. Joe's" day in Italy.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Mar 12 UTC
And I guess you can go up to the legions of people named Patrick in Ireland and call them Paddy, no? And all the Williams are "Liam", naturally.

actually, my cousin is Willy not Liam... and i'd have assume Liam is a given name in Ireland, not just a diminutive of William...

My favourite drink yesterday was Captain Morgan's and Ginger Ale. Something i had never before drank.
