EOG Turkey
1901
I decided to try an anti-Russia opening, having never done that before. I noted the southern Russian opening and the antagonism between A/I. I decided that helping Austria into Greece may win me an ally while I captured the black sea.
1902
I continued working with Austria and assaulting Russia. I sensed by the end of this year that Austria would stab me soon.
1903
I accept support to Ionian, and the stab comes in the fall. Fortunately my battle with Russia is going well and when I lose Ionian, I can make a quick grab of Tunis to get a build. I am now certain that Austria and I will have a long, drawn out war. I have largely ignored the western three because of the infighting and no clear winner.
1904
My wars take a turn for the worse and I'm down to four units. It is this retreat/ build phase that I throw up a draw flag hoping Italy will see it and understand that I want to work with him. I am also signaling to Germany with every chance I get that I want to be friends.
1905
Italy takes my help into Greece, but Austria builds a fleet. I still expect nothing from the west.
1906
With Italy's help, I reclaim Bulgaria and build a third fleet. I don't fully recall why I did that, but I think I saw myself as landlocked against Austrian armies and his fleet builds made me think it urgent to reclaim the med.
France pushing south also made me nervous for my one friend, Italy.
1907
My first big mistake: I stole Greece from Italy. To Italy, I profusely apologize. This was a clear mistake that resulted in your elimination and made sure there was no resolution to my Austrian war. And of course, in the fall, I could not hold on to my gain.
1908
I defend myself rather well against the Austrian, predicting his movements keenly. But France has arrived.
1909
I am forced to retreat to Moscow from Sevastopol, stealing a center from the one player really giving France a run for his money. I throw my draw flag up again to say "let's stop the ten center guys."
1910
I see a flag go up from Austria that causes me to do semi-trusting/ semi-fighting moves, just to make sure it was not a ploy. It wasn't, and the stop France war had begun.
1911
This is my second huge mistake. I accidentally hit finalize before giving orders to Constantinople and Aegean. I had intended to do the same movements, which Austria would have supported this time, and as a result of my error, France claimed Ionian.
To Austria, I am very sorry for my error. Fortunately we also drew at this point.
All in all, a good game. I definitely learned quite a bit about playing gunboat better and I don't think I did /too/ badly. Thanks everyone for letting me play and improve. I look forward to doing this again.
