A bad guy from a continent with more than its share of bad guys. Military intervention, however, is an awful idea that will at best just prop up the authoritarian Ugandan government (which, while not as bad as the LRA, is still plenty bad) and at worst drag the United States into an unending and unwinnable conflict in the heart of Africa. We're already deeply involved Mali and Somalia's civil wars as a part of the War on Terror. Now this stunningly aggravating band of hipsters wants us to jump in perpetual war zone which is the CAR-DRC-South Sudan border region to catch a guy who, while quite awful, has no quarrel with the United States and whose group, while a war crime committing cult, poses no threat at all to the United States. It's sheer madness.

Crusading hipsters with a sexy cause should not be the guiding force of American foreign policy.

I mean in the whole 'documentary' there wasnt even any ugandans! his 5 year old son gets more air time than any of kony's actual victims. also the premise that kony 'just isnt well known enough' is total bullshit. This fake cause wasn't concocted by hipsters. The US national security state has been pushing the Kony meme for a while now. Susan Rice has been talking about the need for militarization of Central Africa with the LRA as an excuse. Nevermind that the LRA is essentially dissolved. Nevermind that the Uganda military, our puppet, is worse than the LRA in terms of human rights abuses. Hipsters wouldn't just happen to randomly select a "cause" that the US military establishment desperately want support for.

An organization on my campus I'm a part of for IR majors has a Facebook page - the President posted Kony as an idea for a service project.

So I watched the thing and.. lol. I told them that as IR majors they should know better - the troop deployment has more to do with sphere of influence than anything else.

They were like.. yeah. But we're still gonna do it. Haha.

Then they're sorry excuses for human beings.

That "joke" photo was with real-life SPLA rebels. A group of thugs if there ever was one. Want to be taken seriously? Then don't be provided security, as they admitted they were provided security, with a bunch of SPLA bandits while whining about the LRA.

Let's say I am an NGO who provides medical aid and food aid to areas in emergency crisis. Let's say violence gets bad in said zone but I refuse to pull out.

What should I do? Should I just go in anyway, unarmed, and risk getting my personnel slaughtered or should I hire security who could potentially get into firefights?

hahahaha, kony was such an abject failure, it makes us conspiracy theorists hopeful. some of the biggest conspirators were behind it and it failed so hard. i think now they will try desperately hard to get attention off of it so the few remaining people who believe in it will not be exposed to the truth - that it's all bs.
