The Things Public School Doesn't Teach
Seriously... I took an entire year of an African history elective in eighth grade that continued through the end of apartheid in South Africa (and went into gruesome detail many times) but I never once heard about the Rwandan Genocide - really?

Toyota Promises to Lower Quality

I prefer my welds precise, Toyota. You just lost my future business.

doesn't Toyota have some manufacturing plants in America?

Several. IIRC, every Camry sold in America is made in America.

I'd rather give more jobs to the people that design and build the robots. But I know the left prefers to have serfs and peasants paying union dues that go to the left's campaign funds.

Wouldn't the people assembling the robots be rather similar to the serfs building the cars?
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Apr 14 UTC
A little higher skill and a lot fewer bots to build than cars. Plus, bots don't have upholstery.
krellin (80 DX)
08 Apr 14 UTC
yebellz - uhhhh....no, Fanuc Robotics, ABB Robotics, etc....they all employ American workers that build the robots that run the factories that produce higher quality automobiles.

American Robots CREATE American cars. If you change plants back over to Union waged workers, with a subsequent drop in Quality, then your cas will go back to be manufactured in MEXICO and beyond.

God bless the American robot for creating and maintaining American jobs.

If you don't know that Toyota is one of the most American-made cars around, you don't seem to know much about the auto industry either, krellybelly.
krellin (80 DX)
08 Apr 14 UTC
As a matter of fact, my company helps company *HIRE* the individuals that build, program, install, and maintain the robots. We also hire the factory managers that run the US manufacturing plants that know how American robots works. All part of the US domestic auto industry (as opposed to all you morons driving "American" cars produced every but the USA)
krellin (80 DX)
08 Apr 14 UTC
Bosucks - I know that Toyota is an "American" car manufacturer that builds cars inthe US. I also know what the robot did to the Quality of American automobiles....the ones that people QUIT buying when Toyota built cars in the US with robots, while the fuckiing US auto industry was still fighting with the fucking Unions.

If you will note, moron, I specifically stated TOYOTA PROMISES LOWER QUALITY.

And with that pending lower quality, Toyota will sell less cars, and rquire fewer of those workers they are hiring to replace their robots.

Again, you know nothing about the auto industry.
grking (100 D)
08 Apr 14 UTC
If the robots take up work though, where does that leave many of the lower skilled factory workers? If they update their skill set, where does that leave the people who are slightly more specialized? I'm sure niches will open for some, but for most, I'm not sure.
krellin (80 DX)

Further, if you think Toyota is an "AMerican Made" car, you are truly stupider than I thought.

Improting parts from overseas, and running them througha sort-and-ship company based in America, so that the part is now "American sourced", hardly make a car American. They are assembled in America.

I have *also* helped hire the Quality Inspectors that work short-term jobs in the sort-and-ship facilities that "earn" a part the "made in America" label.

Same can be said for a lot of US product, but if you are truly stupid enough to believe Toyota is an "American Car", you dumber than I thought.
grking (100 D)
08 Apr 14 UTC
It'll probably take a while for Toyota to lose that much business though. They have a very solid reputation at the moment, and as the media is slamming GM (deepening people's distrust in American-based companies), I think Toyota will hold an edge over many other companies for a while yet.

grking - Robots take up jobs...and protect jobs at the same time. If you are working in a Union plant producing a low-quality product (due to human error/negligence) it isn't taht long before the manufacturing picks up and moves across the border. By installing a robot to perform heavy labor jobs - such as welding the body/frame together - you lower the overall cost of the vehicle, you increase the quality - thus meaning you can keep the plant hear (because human labor cost is now low enough to compensate for shipping costs if the vehicle was produced in a foreign country), plus you increase quality leading to higher sales. There is a happy balance between man and machine that benefits the US auto worker in a *global* industrial world.

Toyota just got fined $1.2 Billion for there recall cover-up with the sudden acceleration problem. Plus, US automotive quality is way on the rise. GM is taking shit...meaning you will good great discounts and rebates at GM dealerships for vehicles that otherwise are highly competitive if not better than Toyota in many instances.

The "Toyota is a better car" media mantra of the old days is bullshit.

This is really old news from the 1990s when Japanese companies realized that if they used too many robots, that they wouldn't need low level employees and the unemployment rate would soar.

"Given that technological change generally increases productivity, it is a tenet held in economics since the 19th century that technological change, although it disrupts the careers of individuals and the health of particular firms, produces opportunities for the creation of new, unrelated jobs. The notion of technological unemployment leading to structural unemployment (and being macroeconomically injurious) is often called the Luddite fallacy, named after the early historical example of the Luddites."

How many chapters makes sense for a book of ~60.000 words?
5? 10? 15?

The question is really that simple, although I understand the answer isn't as obvious.
The book is fiction.

Hello all!
I just wanted to say hi to everyone here, I've had some background playing Diplomacy before so I'm not a complete noob.. :P I've got 60 D left of my starting 100 so if anybody's up for a cheaper game, I'd be up for that. A little bit about myself: I'm a huge Tolkien geek, I absolutely love sports, and I'm currently in college so I'll be pretty busy for the next 4 weeks.

New game mode: dummy phase mode
So you get two spring and two autumn phases. The first is carried out as normal, THEN it reverses, and you get the chance to play the phase again. Do you change what you've done? Have your enemies given anything away? Or is it just a trick?

Brief question concerning moves
If you move into a territory occupied by an enemy while they try to move into an unoccupied territory, will their move be successful, or will they be stuck? I'm asking because I vaguely remember being able to stop an enemy from moving by moving to where their unit was, but I recently tried it in a gunboat to no avail.

Tightening muscles
I just noticed something weird:
I can tighten my right arm muscles quite well, but I seem to be unable to do anything other than moving with my left arm. It seems I'm unable to give the 'order' to simply tighten my left arm at all in any other way than pressing on something for example. My right arm is definitely stronger, but surely I should be able to tighten my left arm's muscles, even if they're weaker? Is that odd or normal?
Not worried, just curious.

How to report players for possible out of game collusion?
Hey guys, I sense some foul play in one of my anonymous no chat games. Two players are cooperating on an impossibly accurate level with one player simply doing everything in their power to help another without defending for any attacks from the other player as if they are one player or two cooperating out of game. How do I report this to mods to check?
