At Partysane's suggestion, a brief look at Tarvuist dietary guidelines.
Only a few foods or drinks are actually forbidden. These are covered in the following passages:
"To eat the flesh of the octopus, the dish known as calamari, or the body of an owl is forbidden.
"Drink not sparkling water, for the bubbles speak blasphemy."
- Book of D*cis'ons, Chapter III
Added to these forbadings, however, there are various things which Tarvuists like to eat, and certain foods which have ritual significance.
Amzamalvinni Pie for example is a popular Tarvuist dish, said to have been invented by Amzamiviram and Alvinni the Martyr, after whom it is named. The pie is chiefly made from rabbit, duck, raisins and vanilla, all in a pastry casing, although there are regional variations - for example in Portugal it is traditional to use pigeon in place of the duck. New Zealand's Tarvuists, meanwhile, favour a pie known locally as "Chunky Joe", which is a fish pie, but like Amzamalvinni Pie contains raisins and is flavoured with vanilla.
The ceremony of the Erbuniatum (the coming-of-age ceremony a Tarvuist child undergoes at the age of 9), features a traditional cake called an "Erbunty roundling", made with flour, egg, sugar, aniseed and onion. The cake is made by the child during the ceremony and presented to the Priestmunty.
