I know it's a few days late, but I thought it'd be nice to have a thread to appreciate a great baseball player's remarkable achievement, even if he is a Yankee now. Ichiro is awesome.

Local minimum wage
How local should minimum wage be? I just read something about minimum wage in Holland, but the costs of living in Amsterdam are certainly higher than on the countryside no?

It's good to be back!
Hey everyone! Not sure if anyone remembers me, I wasn't an especially vocal member, but after an eight month sabbatical, I'm looking to get started back up in diplomacy. Would anyone be interested in a 2-day phase game, probably a 100 point buy-in? If so, post in this thread, and I'll send you a PM with a password on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ben Affleck as Batman
It just breaks my Comicbook loving heart. I just can't see Affleck being a good Batman. Oh and the kicker is he's going to help write the movie (the Superman/Batman one) and is signed for multiple movies.

I think Matt Damon will make a good Robin though.

I think 2WL was alluding to the fact that Affleck and Damon often make movies where they have a Batman-and-Robin like relationship.

Its a joke, CF, since they always used to star in movies together.

I personally welcome the change. TDKR was awful and I look forward to a return to the days of Danny DeVito and Jim Carrey.

I think this is even more blasphemic than what you're doing in Sbyvl's thread. How is Bale not awesome?
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Aug 13 UTC
Bale's batman retired and is living with Catwoman.
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Aug 13 UTC
The best Batman would be Jim Caviezel. He is wickedly dark in his humor and his character on Person of Interest fits the Dark Knight perfectly if you put a mask and cape on him.

I've seen Alex O'Loughlin tossed about too and he would work a hell of a lot better than Affleck. But I guess Jim and Alex have some sweet deals going with their TV shows right now.
Sigh. He won't be that bad. Remember this?

Draugnar (0 DX)

True, and Ledger probably had his best performance ever as the Joker. I'd be hard pressed to pick between him and Jack Nicholson.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
25 Aug 13 UTC
They had two very different takes on how to play theJoker. Personally I like Ledgers but only narrowly over Nicholson.
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Aug 13 UTC
Yeah, Nicholson was gangster seriously pissed off at Batman while Ledger was just crazy whack job wanting to have some fun and screw *everyone* over in the process.

But Affleck had his turn as a superhero and failed in Daredevil. He shouldn't get another shot to fuck up a beloved character.
Tolstoy (1962 D)

Jack Nicholson's joker was Jack Nicholson playing Jack Nicholson with funny makeup. Heath Ledger OWNED that role.

As for Affleck, there are plenty of examples of examples of perceived miscasting that, when the final product hit the Big Screen, the perception was instantly obliterated. Anne Rice was horrified when she found out that Tom Cruise had been cast as Lestat in Interview With a Vampire, but as soon as she saw a screen test, she was instantly won over. "You can't judge a meal while the ingredients are all still in the fridge. "

I like that quote. May have to put it in the quote of the day thread along with "Spoon!" and "I am the night."

How I would save the US if I would rule the country.
1. kill Sbyvl.
2. kill Emac.
3. disband the forces sent to places no one wants them. That'd be pretty much anywhere except maybe South Korea and in America and surrounding seas of course.

Daily Quote (Does Anyone like this Idea?)
So I am kind of new to the forums in that I have never posted anything and mostly just read what everyone is saying when it interests me. Since I saw there was a daily bible reading I figured I could start up a daily quote.

If someone is already doing this let me know as I don't want to steal their idea.
