I know it's a few days late, but I thought it'd be nice to have a thread to appreciate a great baseball player's remarkable achievement, even if he is a Yankee now. Ichiro is awesome.

Local minimum wage
How local should minimum wage be? I just read something about minimum wage in Holland, but the costs of living in Amsterdam are certainly higher than on the countryside no?

It's good to be back!
Hey everyone! Not sure if anyone remembers me, I wasn't an especially vocal member, but after an eight month sabbatical, I'm looking to get started back up in diplomacy. Would anyone be interested in a 2-day phase game, probably a 100 point buy-in? If so, post in this thread, and I'll send you a PM with a password on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mahogany
I mean, its not that hard to produce, right? all we need is to block imports via tariffs from Brazil and the US will once again become the greatest producer of Mahogany!
Draugnar (0 DX)
24 Aug 13 UTC
There are many woods and other plants that aren't indigenous to the US and that wouldn't grow well here. And with no importation, we couldn't import live plants to even try.

ghug (5068 D(B))

Diamonds can be produced in labs, it's just not cost efficient. I believe that was what abge was referring to.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
26 Aug 13 UTC
It's actually very cost efficient. Lab grown diamonds are much cheaper than natural diamonds.
YadHoGrojaUL (330 D)
26 Aug 13 UTC
I suppose you could make coal, if you were fat enough and sat on some logs/ferns for several hundred million years.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
26 Aug 13 UTC
Of course lab-grown is cheaper. You don't have to wait 10 quadrillion years.
ILN (100 D)
26 Aug 13 UTC
but lab grown isn't desirable in the jewlery market, the US already makes lab grown ones for industrial machinery

ILN (100 D)

That's the consumers fault for being ignorant to the dangers of GM food, and Monsanto corn receiving subsidies by the government, not to mention how Monsanto has its men inside the FDA, like Micheal R.Taylor, deputy commissioner for foods at the FDA, and former VP of Monsanto public policy

Ben Affleck as Batman
It just breaks my Comicbook loving heart. I just can't see Affleck being a good Batman. Oh and the kicker is he's going to help write the movie (the Superman/Batman one) and is signed for multiple movies.

How I would save the US if I would rule the country.
1. kill Sbyvl.
2. kill Emac.
3. disband the forces sent to places no one wants them. That'd be pretty much anywhere except maybe South Korea and in America and surrounding seas of course.

Daily Quote (Does Anyone like this Idea?)
So I am kind of new to the forums in that I have never posted anything and mostly just read what everyone is saying when it interests me. Since I saw there was a daily bible reading I figured I could start up a daily quote.

If someone is already doing this let me know as I don't want to steal their idea.
