A convoy is a move. It requires two units to move to happen, so why should the army get to do something other than move and yet still get the free and easy convoy. I disagree with this on principle. *But* if people agreed, I would think the English Channel would have to offer up the convoy as its order in the movement phase to take advantage of a retreat to that territory.

So, a new order for fleets could be "Convoy Retreating Army from (x) to (y)...."

Just make it issue "Convoy X to Y" as it's only order that movement phase, so it has to sacrifice any other orders.

I think the title says it all - miracle at Dunkirk. Rare. What normally happens is the army gets smashed because it has nowhere to retreat. Oh. Look. That's what happens in Dip. Nice idea, but sheesh... The code man, the code!

Why didn't the convoying fleet just support hold it, eh?

It did, but the army was taken by a great power...

It would be a judgement call. Do you think the enemy will use enough force to overcome the fleet's SH or might the SH be cut? Then.issue the convoy to retreat. This idea is growing on me some.

Desparate Houserules

This is a bad idea. Think of it this way; convoying an army takes an entire turn (3 months) because it includes transport ships taking the army - which includes the men *and* all of their equipment and supplies - from A to B. These transport ships don't show up as units on the board, but they need to be protected by the fleets that are assigned to convoy duty.

An evacuation on the scale of Dunkirk may have rescued most of the men, but they left behind almost all of their weapons and equipment (more than 600,000 tons of kit was left in France). Without their weapons and equipment an army is just a group of men taking a walk.

I disagree with this particular idea, because it's not so much a houserule that you add for the game to be more playable, but just a complete change of the rules that are very explicit on this point. If you change this rule, then basically you have a different game: you can't really compare the outcome of your game to what I do.
