Why R U Yanks so hung up on race?

Race seems to come into everything you do.Evidence: the Zimmerman threads here. Why is the colour of a man's skin seem to be the most important to you all, rather than his character?

Probably because our country only abolished slavery a little over 150 years ago. But let's not forget how rampant racial epiithets are in other parts of the world either. I don't limit racism to one country or another. I think, as a species, we're still mostly backward.

I think simply put that the crime and trial means very different things based on your perspective, and that perspective is heavily (though obviously not entirely) influenced by your culture and the color of your skin.

There's no denying that racism is prevalent in other countries (including my own: Australia, and the several others that I have lived in or visited). But in America the question of race seems to be a national preoccupation, almost an obsession.

At least in the USA they are wrestling with the issue, that is the sign of a progressive country, they are looking for a solution. In so many countries, many European countries, casual racism is socially acceptable.
Never forget as well that in Egypt right now the army are slaughtering protesters for the ousted President Morsi, how quite are our Western leaders on this issue. If this was Morsi cracking down on protesters there would be outrage and calls for intervention. Killing Muslims is not the answer to resolving conflict in the world, maybe one day Iraq will work that out as well.

@nudge ... because people in this country are waking up to racism and want to do something about it. As is with any potentially political issue, it gets brought up at any moment possible.

@Nigee ... the entirety of the Middle East is a big fucking mess. There's no reason to support anyone over there. Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Iran, whoever else - they are all a fucking mess. I don't know why we won't get out of there. (Yes I do, oil, I just don't like to say it because I wish it weren't true..)

Democrats Hate Women?

There are a couple prominent Democrats in the news recently doing foul things towards women...and have been prominent Democrats in the past (4 examples to follow). The party line response? SILENCE. Funny, the White House openly speaks about all sorts of race issues...but on Sexual abuse by Democrats...silence. Do DEMOCRATS HATE WOMEN?

Manslaughter

I didn't follow the Martin/Zimmerman case too closely (mostly because the media turned it into a politically-charged circus, as they do most everything they latch onto), and while the stand-your-ground law is plain stupid, he was not guilty of murder under the law. However, I don't understand why he wasn't guilty of manslaughter.
