I will not link to the relevant game, because I am asking about an anonymous game currently ongoing. I am trying to ask the question in a way that does not identify the game, and I am currently playing enough anonymous games that I hope it will not be possible to figure out which game I am talking. Ultimately, given the nature of the decision I have, I believe identifying the game would not change anything.
In this game, I am in a position where I am trying to get a win, and the remaining players are trying to stop me from getting a win. The current position is unclear -- according to the correct rules of Diplomacy, I do not force a win, and the other players do not have the ability to force a draw. Depending upon our moves, we'll reach one of those two results from a fluid position.
However, I have determined that the most likely result of my next two sets of orders will be that I trigger a situation in which webDip decides that I have won the game, but I have not -- I would be taking advantage of a bug. This is also my best shot to attempt to win the game from a fluid position -- if the bug were not there, it's the set of orders I would submit in an attempt to win, but I would not win in the next two turns. Submitting any other set of orders is vastly inferior, to the point that it almost (but not quite) forces a draw.
Given this situation, what is the most ethical way to proceed? Would you submit orders that are your best set of Diplomacy orders but are likely to trigger the bug, or would you avoid it knowing it changes an unclear position to a draw? For that matter, there is a third option -- I can *force* a win given the existence of the bug, via moves that would not get me a win under other circumstances.
So, I'm coming to y'all for some advice here. What do you think is the most ethical way to proceed?
