Political article, must read

A plea for sanity. I can think of a few people here who could benefit from reading this. I sure know I will.

Diplomacy on the web
I have been at WebDip for a few months now, and I think I've got a pretty good idea of the flavor of the site and its regular users. How does it compare to the rest of internet diplomacy?

Daily Bible Reading--John 1
This thread isn't meant to provoke argument, but if it does, that's ok. It's just a place to come for a one-chapter dose of the Bible. Today's reading is the first chapter of John's story of the good news as he personally experienced it, translated into modern English.

Did something change with how muting works?
Used to be, you could briefly see (and hit ESC to fully read) muted posts/people. Now, I can hit ESC before the javascript executes, but I still don't see posts form people I muted. Did the code shift to muting server side? If so, cool, but also "bummer" as I'll have to unmute people to see their bullshit (and them me if they have me muted).

Please stop being hypocritical
We ask Mujus to create a single thread for his quotes and he has done that. Please be considerate and do the same. If he wants to discuss the bible every day and there are people who want to do the same, please let them. Stop making a mockery out of their freedom of speech.

Iberian bug?
Is there a bug in this game? the A1901 opening F MAO - SPAIN - SC with A SPAIN - POR has failed to work in 2 successive games.

There is a rule against swapping places I think, but that is not what these units are doing here.

gameID=87713? Last turn? Spa didn't move to MAO and had support so Por couldn't dislodge it.
Draugnar (0 DX)

In gameID=87585 Spa tried for Por not MAO which is why they bounced.
"the A1901 opening"

so obviously not a last-turn thing.

Both times you apparently didn't order Spain to move. *shrug* Never seen this as an error and I'm suspecting PEBKAC, honestly.

@Count

In A01 SPA did *not* move to POR. It was ordered to hold. Had it been ordered to POR, the move would have worked just fine.

And i know why. he put the order in but forgot to specify by land being as convoy would be an option on the order.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@Draug

Yes, that's most likely it.
I think this last is possible, as I am a new player here and the 'by land' option is a little confusing!!
No, that wouldn't be it. If the option to move by land exists, then it doesn't matter if the convoy fails. I've actually intentionally ordered a move which would be valid by land to be by convoy on purpose, so that I could fake a "misorder" by selecting via convoy and not cut support that a supposed "ally" asked for. I cut the support anyway even though my fleet moved instead of convoying; the attack went through by land.

@Count

It is used so that the Adjudicator knows that you aren't convoying.

If the dropdown appears, you gotta fill it in. Lesson learned unfortunately the hard way.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@PE

That's if you order "via convoy". But, what if you leave it blank? I don't think the Adjudicator processes the order unless it's complete.
Draugnar (0 DX)
01 May 12 UTC
@Eden. The order was incomplete because he didn't specify it either way. So it stayed as a hold.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
01 May 12 UTC
Yes, this might be worth fixing - ie allow orders with 'via...' to be adjudicated.

The question then is how should they be treated? I suggest KISS, so what is the simplest solution?

Actually the above view is wrong - failure should be encouraged, it facilitates learning - learn that it is ok to fail, learn how to avoid it next time...

Daily Secular Reading
Well, last time we did a poem by a tragic, mad, male genius, Mr. Poe...how about a tragic, mad, female genius, Emily Dickinson? (We'll do someone from the British Isles tomorrow, so don't worry, this thread isn't going to be a sad example of American Exceptionalism and shut out the rest of the English-speaking world.) So! A very short poem by Dickinson (and how prudent this one is, given these "Daily Bible Readings") and more talk of her inside...
