Diplomacy on the web
I have been at WebDip for a few months now, and I think I've got a pretty good idea of the flavor of the site and its regular users. How does it compare to the rest of internet diplomacy?

Daily Bible Reading--John 1
This thread isn't meant to provoke argument, but if it does, that's ok. It's just a place to come for a one-chapter dose of the Bible. Today's reading is the first chapter of John's story of the good news as he personally experienced it, translated into modern English.

Did something change with how muting works?
Used to be, you could briefly see (and hit ESC to fully read) muted posts/people. Now, I can hit ESC before the javascript executes, but I still don't see posts form people I muted. Did the code shift to muting server side? If so, cool, but also "bummer" as I'll have to unmute people to see their bullshit (and them me if they have me muted).

Please stop being hypocritical
We ask Mujus to create a single thread for his quotes and he has done that. Please be considerate and do the same. If he wants to discuss the bible every day and there are people who want to do the same, please let them. Stop making a mockery out of their freedom of speech.

Iberian bug?
Is there a bug in this game? the A1901 opening F MAO - SPAIN - SC with A SPAIN - POR has failed to work in 2 successive games.

There is a rule against swapping places I think, but that is not what these units are doing here.

First of all, congratulations, Italy (Stressedlines)!

Austria played awfully and gave Italy ample room to develop right from the start. Turkey entered no orders two times, which was a tactic of sorts, I suppose? Anyway, things were going pretty badly for me (Russia) and everybody else. Still, a stalemate line was forming and we were heading to a five-way draw.

When I assumed the stalemate position, Germany panicked (I suppose) and attacked me. Then he tried to set up a stalemate line of his own, not realizing that his attack meant certain death for both of us. At the other side of the board, England did the same thing to France.

P.S. Germany was SplitDiplomat!! The guy who is always lecturing me! Oh dear...
England has mistaken,we could have the stalemate line without you Zmaj if you take a closer look.

Zmaj, actually, I tried to play nice with Austria to start. If you will look, I supported Trieste on first turn, and he came after me like a damn banshee, I was going for turkey right from the start. Then austria on turn 2 vacated Serbia, so got no build, but because he was so strong on venice, i went with another army instead, hoping to convoy to Albania (which i FUBARd with wrong order). I gave austria exactly 3 turns to 'get with the program' but he kept coming and coming. So, once I got all i needed in place, and Russia started also hitting him, I decided to get my piece of the pie.

Thank you for the congrats.

Did you think you had enough to stalemate me in the east also before the big English blunder in MAO?
Stressedlines (1559 D)
01 May 12 UTC
SD i was not sure if you could or not. I thought for a long time I would be stuck at 17, and was hoping to maybe carve russia out of it to get a 4 way, and then England gave me a freebie. I noticed the turn before I got into MAO he did not support MAO, and was setting up for a convoy.

I was busy looking in the east for my center, not the west.
Zmaj (215 D(B))
01 May 12 UTC
Yes we did. It was a perfect position before SplitDiplomat, the greedy pig, went for me.

I noticed your troubles with Austria... Lol. In fact, you had to go solo from the very start, so it's an impressive win.
If England hadn't let you to MAO you would have taken Warsaw and Moscow but not St.Pet or Mun or Ber. And Russia you would be gone with or without me,you couldn't have defended Warsaw and Moscow. If you have destroyed that fleet instead of an army I would have defended you.
Stressedlines (1559 D)

Zmaj...yes, As italy I tend to leave Austria alone, but that bugger would not leave off me. He forced my hand into him, when I REALLY wanted Turkey from the start.

I keep looking, and dont think the german had enough armies to stop me in the east did he?

The Russia was dead (except for STP) and I was going to support german troops into there, to send the message "draw for 4 if russia dies" but nothign happened.

Germany had 4 armies in place, right? warsaw/bohemia/galacia hitting silesia with tyrolila cutting munich support. Does that not give me silesia, whichin turn gives me a legit shot at munich (I thought). Maybe not.

SD had some fleets roaming around, trying to protect STP, and such, but I thought there was a shot at 18, and was sure nto going to draw with 5.

I loko at it again SD, you are probably right. Im trying to think if France had 3 armies. Burg/gasc/Marseilles, right?
You wouldn't have taken Munich ever,Ruhr and Kiel defends it,Baltic defends Berlin and Bothnia defends St.Pet. Would you?
Stressedlines (1559 D)
01 May 12 UTC
anyways, good game guys, it was a fun game, and unexpected for me to tangle with Austria early and still come out on top like that. Turkey No moving twice probably helped me a lot, as Austria took no advantage of it at all.
Stressedlines (1559 D)
01 May 12 UTC
that army in Kiel had moved out a while ago, but France did have an army in Burg.

You moved that army in kiel to the east, trying to keep the east up.

England still with the worst move of the game though, letting me in MAO.

Without it, it was certainly a 4 man.

SD, be a nice guy and explain to me how you would have held the line in that last turn. Silesia would fall and then you'd be forced to guess whether Italy will attack Munich or Prussia. Sooner or later, you'd guess wrong and fall.
You can't even enter Silesia so I don't know what are you talking about. Kiel would be in place if needed...
Stressedlines (1559 D)
01 May 12 UTC
zmaj, that is waht I was thinking. There was no army in kiel at the end, or even close, and they were all doing 'something'

However, FRANCE, could have helped him hold the line with Burgandy also.

not sure I could ahve solo'd without the English 'helping' but if I was going to get one, it was from germany.
Stressedlines (1559 D)
01 May 12 UTC
why cant I? How can you stop me going to silesia the VERY next turn? Tyrolia hits munich and bohemia/glacia/warsaw attack into silesia. How can you stop that move? I would ahve been in silesia without a Germany army in or NEAR kiel.

I just looked again SD< you could not stop the silesia move. The solo, maybe not, but certainly silesia for sure, and then I would have been playign teh guessing game forever.
Zmaj you just keep learning, you are better and better every day,I'm not in the mode to explain you again,I said it allready. What if he take Silesia? Silesia retreats to Berlin and defends Munich together with Ruhr, Baltic defends Prussia and St.Pet defends Livonia and he's locked. So please take a closer look one more time.
Stress - Silesia is not a supply center.
Zmaj (215 D(B))
01 May 12 UTC
Yeah, SD made a mistake and now he won't admit it. Tyr-Mun, Mos-Liv, and Boh-Sil supported by Gal and War. Silesia falls.
Stressedlines (1559 D)
01 May 12 UTC
Sd, i never said it WAS a SC, but you said I could not get into Silesia, which is 100% not true.
Zmaj (215 D(B))
01 May 12 UTC
Actually, yes, you're right. After the fall of Silesia, the line holds. OK, fine.
Stressedlines (1559 D)
01 May 12 UTC
however, I dont think a solo was possible under those circumstances either. He had baltic sea to support prussia, he did not need a Kiel army.

I was really just pushing up high enough, and probing to see what I could get, and was going to want Germany to destroy russia for me, and i would have accepted a 4 way.

I got the solo from a stupid move by someone (certainly not the first time THAT has happened here, hell, I see more people win from CDs and NMRs than from stupid moves), but, really I was just playing time, hoping someone would make a mistake before Russia was dead.

Daily Secular Reading
Well, last time we did a poem by a tragic, mad, male genius, Mr. Poe...how about a tragic, mad, female genius, Emily Dickinson? (We'll do someone from the British Isles tomorrow, so don't worry, this thread isn't going to be a sad example of American Exceptionalism and shut out the rest of the English-speaking world.) So! A very short poem by Dickinson (and how prudent this one is, given these "Daily Bible Readings") and more talk of her inside...
