Diplomacy on the web
I have been at WebDip for a few months now, and I think I've got a pretty good idea of the flavor of the site and its regular users. How does it compare to the rest of internet diplomacy?

Daily Bible Reading--John 1
This thread isn't meant to provoke argument, but if it does, that's ok. It's just a place to come for a one-chapter dose of the Bible. Today's reading is the first chapter of John's story of the good news as he personally experienced it, translated into modern English.

Did something change with how muting works?
Used to be, you could briefly see (and hit ESC to fully read) muted posts/people. Now, I can hit ESC before the javascript executes, but I still don't see posts form people I muted. Did the code shift to muting server side? If so, cool, but also "bummer" as I'll have to unmute people to see their bullshit (and them me if they have me muted).

Please stop being hypocritical
We ask Mujus to create a single thread for his quotes and he has done that. Please be considerate and do the same. If he wants to discuss the bible every day and there are people who want to do the same, please let them. Stop making a mockery out of their freedom of speech.

Iberian bug?
Is there a bug in this game? the A1901 opening F MAO - SPAIN - SC with A SPAIN - POR has failed to work in 2 successive games.

There is a rule against swapping places I think, but that is not what these units are doing here.

My PM to Zmaj
"Was your final attacks on me revenge on earlier in the game?

If you did not take Warsaw or help England take Norway we would have drawn that game.

Turkey already had Marseilles and spain..We needed to set a border to not allow him to pass."
Riphen (198 D)

Or possibly Drawn if England would have focused up and killed France once and for all.

Instead of playing with his dick everywhere.

Cspieker was definitely the most consistent player of the game, wholly deserving the win. He played Turkey and created a Juggernaut with Russia. He seemed the underdog for a while, but stabbed Russia at the perfect moment.

On the other side of the board, I played Germany and found myself defending from a three-pronged English, French and Russian attack. I survived somehow, and when Turkey's stab diverted Russia's forces, I thought I had a chance of a two-way draw. Unfortunately, my untimely withdrawal of the draw offer pissed off Russia so much that he decided to ruin my chances and eventually succeeded.

I started of this game with the intention of attacking Turkey but after his moves showed me faith I decided to switch my objective towards Germany who I shouldnt have attacked because he had not bounced me out of Sweden...But I figured it was too late so I pressed on.

Eventually England helped Germany into Sweden but also taking Denmark.

I retreated my assault on Germany to switch my focus on Austria. Thus giving Germany free reign to attack England and for me and him to become peaceful enemies.

The year I took Trieste was a shit year on my part.

1. I should have move Rumania to Black Sea and moved Gal down.

2. I should have built fleet and started to attack Turkey. I made a lapse in judgement thinking that Turkey was still willing to work.

(PS cspieker did you think that me taking Trieste meant war against us? or did you just decide it was time to strike?)

Finally I tried to make peace with England and Germany.

They took a long time to understand.

And by long time I mean at the end of the game. My fleet did only one hostile thing and that was take Belgium..as it was a way to keep the status quo of my units for one more turn.

Then I focused to moving him to spain to help stop Turkey...But I guess everyone else didnt get the memo that Turkey had a real shot to Solo.

By the end game I was so enraged by Germany's actions that I just suicide myself into him and allowed Turkey the solo.

You thought you had a shot at a two way draw?

ONE of the hardest Draws to complete in a press Game..

And you thought you could pull it off in a gunboat. When Turkey had multiple chances to take Marseilles Spain and Portugal..but choose to let his fleets screw around in the Med.

As Turkey, my stab of Russia was going well, until I tried what I thought was a sneaky move (shifting all my forces along the Con-Bul-Ser-Tri conga line instead of attacking Russian centers). But Russia apparently guessed exactly what I was going to do, shut me down, and took away one of my centers. Suddenly it was looking like a German solo, and I was rueing the stab. Germany had two, maybe three dots across the stalemate line and was looking likely to get more (Vienna and Warsaw and/or Moscow, plus threatening Budapest). I think all Germany had to do was to build fleets, hold on against me with his armies and take all the Eng/French centers. Then Germany built armies, plus Russia went bezerker on him. And that was all she wrote. Thanks for the game guys. Well played, no NMR's!?! And thanks, Russia, for the gift.

I don't know if I was the most consistent. I made a couple of serious blunders. One in the later game when I guessed Germany's move correctly, but I misordered by supporting his army in Vienna instead of mine in Tyrolia! Earlier on, I could have had a 3 build year if I would have noticed an attack on Serbia before there was only 10 seconds left until deadline and too late to change. Italy was so open at that point (???) that it was a little confusing. So many open dots, so few units to take them! ;-)

Yeah, I was really at a loss about what to build and where to go. I'm still so inexperienced that I do a much better job defending than attacking. In fact, it was my successful defense at the eastern front that exasperated Russia so much that he constantly built armies in the north, leaving ridiculously weak forces at Turkey's borders.

Mental note: destroy England as soon as you can, whether you're Germany, France or Russia.

Riphen,
When you started moving more units down South, I started getting worried that you would attack me. Things were quite a mess up North and I just couldn't tell who was friendly with whom, so my build stab (F Ank, A Smy) was a little bit preventive, as I thought you would likely come after me. I was contemplating stabbing you on the build turn a couple times, but you kept pulling out two-build years, over and over, that was incredible how you kept doing that. Finally I thought that if I didn't slow you down then I would eventually lose to you, so I went for it. (and also, like I already said, I was picturing you going after me that turn too).

Germany is one of the easiest countries to defend.

Your lucky England switched on me. I had a feeling he would hence my move to St P from Livonia.

When Turkey stabbed I only had three units up north.

So YOUR idea that your defensive skill saved you is laughable.

England and France saved you.

Riphen (198 D)

Yes I honestly wish we destroyed England Zmaj.

He didnt make one friend that lasted more than 1 turn.

"Germany is one of the easiest countries to defend."

Are you serious here? Maybe it's easiest after Turkey, Italy, England and France.
Riphen (198 D)
30 Apr 12 UTC
Well in hind sight I was thinking of just that game.

But Germany has a great defense against Russia as long as France and England are not competent.

One Hit on kiel and I would have broke free into Germany and this whole game would have played much different. But alas France's play was one of the wierdest I have seen in a long time.
Riphen (198 D)
30 Apr 12 UTC
Actually I guess France was competent cause if he allowed me into Germany it would of powered the already obvious juggernaut to a extreme..

Daily Secular Reading
Well, last time we did a poem by a tragic, mad, male genius, Mr. Poe...how about a tragic, mad, female genius, Emily Dickinson? (We'll do someone from the British Isles tomorrow, so don't worry, this thread isn't going to be a sad example of American Exceptionalism and shut out the rest of the English-speaking world.) So! A very short poem by Dickinson (and how prudent this one is, given these "Daily Bible Readings") and more talk of her inside...
