Game: Reunification
Hey, I need two more people for a classic, very slow (7 day), WTA, full press, 50 point ante game. There are some newbies and some veterans (gryncat and I), all are welcome. http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=82423

Whoever you are that wants a pause - how are we supposed to talk to each other to unpause later in an anonymous gunboat? That's why I'm not voting pause and I'm sorry if I'm a dick.

Book of Mormon
Just got back from NYC where I watched Book of Mormon. If you're a fan of South Park, I cannot recommend you watch this highly enough.

There were a few people there who clearly had no idea what was happening and were horrified; it made it all the better.

Stop the bullies......
....... I would be interested to know how many other people have been abused (or amused) by e-mails from the 'experts' on this site because they played in an anonymous game and the 'expert' didn't like something you had done, so waits until the end of the game to e-mail abuse.

Game Glitch
link: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=81163#gamePanel

I believe there was a glitch in this game. As you can see, in spring 1904, the fleet in rumania attacked the fleet in the black sea which was convoying an army into sev. this attack should have prevented the convoy even though it had support from Armenia.
Mr A (386 D)

You have to dislodge the convoying fleet to prevent the convoy. Just tapping it is not enough.
Mr A (386 D)

...and please don't discuss ongoing games in the forum.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)

Mr A is correct on both counts. Good call.

Just to clarify, Mr Whiskers. You could have asked why a fleet that was attacked still managed to convoy without a specific example, and all would have been fine. We would have pointed you to the PDF of the rules (http://www.diplom.org/~diparch/resources/rulebooks/2000AH4th.pdf) and explained that not only the rules but common sense can show why the convoy would still work. After all, the convoy is a fleet. It has war ships and it has transports. The warships go off and fight the attacking army while the transports continue to perform their duties.

*attacking fleet, not army.

No problem dude. We all make mistakes early on like that. That's why a nice polite answer is best in those cases. Do it again, thpough, and I go Draugma King on your arse! :-) j/k of course.
Worldbeing (1063 D)

To be fair, the FAQ does say that if you believe there's a bug in the implementation of phpDip, you should post in the forums. MrWhiskers may be breaking rules/etiquette if he'd asked a question about that game, but not by reporting what he believed to be a glitch.

...Of course, by that argument, he's still at fault for not checking that he wasn't misunderstanding the rules.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Except for linking the game, what he did was fine.

What's the issue with discussing strictly factual, past-tense events in ongoing games? I understand it's a bad idea to solicit strategy (or possibly even to ask "what could I have done instead"), but in this case, the turn has already played out and everyone both in-game and out-of-game has perfect information about it.
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Mar 12 UTC
Discussing *any* ongoing game, even past events in it, can have ramifications for the future. For instance "So and so said they did this" could lead one of the players to see a motive in "so and so" and react accordingly. That is why it is against the rules to discuss *any* ongoing game that isn't designed to be a public forum game (like the School of War and a few others).
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

I don't have a problem with this type of question, especially since it's non-anon, full press.
It's non-anon and full press; this isn't any different from posting it in global as far as the players and the game are concerned. It calls attention to the issue to non-players... which is the point, as it's a question about an alleged glitch.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
08 Mar 12 UTC
Since Whiskers is new, I should clarify to say that I, as a Mod, don't have a problem with this question, since he's asking about an adjudication question on a past event which doesn't revel any additional information to players involved in the game.
Katsarephat (100 D)

@abgemacht: Thanks, that's what I was getting at. :-)

Gotta be BS
Why are some people such idiots?

If a game starts w/ two CD's, and 1 other player misses a move for some reason, who in their right mind wouldn't just cancel or draw that game for sake of balance?

Austria bs Italy.
Ive been trying a strategy when I get Austria to surprise attack Italy off the bat. Ive mostly failed. Does anyone know of good results where Austria takes on Italy and succeeds in the first few years or is it always better to just go east and hope for a friendly Italy?

bolshoi rankings jan+feb
so you've all been waiting for them. i downloaded the 22 pages of live gunboat wta games on the standard map from jan+feb. and i ran them. these are the top 31 users. would have done top-30 but i recognized the name santosh. not sure if there's a bug in the code cause i don't think 2ndwhiteline should be in the top-100.

In-Game Notes possibility?
Hey. Is there any chance that a notes function could be added to games? I think it would help some of us that don't generally write out elaborate EoG's to have the ability to include something, even if it is just terse notes like:

Russia didn't get bounced in Sweden in '01, what was Germany thinking?
