obiwanobiwan's picks:
Music: "Eugene Onegin" by Tchaikovsky
(They have Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart on the real Golden Record, and I'm sure at least the last two will get a nod from someone to be on this Record, but Tchaikovsky is, in my opinion, the best of the Russian composers and easily one of the Top 5 ever, maybe Top 3...Mozart/Beethoven are easily #1 and #2, in whichever order--although I think most would put Mozart first, as he influenced Beethoven and his operas just put him over the top in my opinion, but eitehr way works--and then you have Bach, Wagner, and a few others for that spot...and I like Tchaikvosky for that spot, he did it all, and all well, concertos and string quartets and ballets and operas and symphonies...so here he is, getting his due, in one of my favorite things to listen to--The Waltz, with Chorus, is THE FAVORITE THEME OF OBIWANOBIWAN! IT! IS! PERFECT! FOR! HIM!--and on top of that, I love Pushkin's original story-0in-sonnet-and-serial-form. So, here it is, for all the alien world to enjoy, a tale of a man making more of the dull drugery of everyday life than most, making even the mundane epic, and yet STILL screwing things up...and over a WOMAN, no less, isn't that always how it is? "Eugene Onegin," now
and forever!)
Spoken Word: "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare
(I'm taking the audio here from the Branagh version, as it's my favorite--and if you don't know why I'm picking this by now...you either haven't been paying attention, in which case, who could blame you, or else you're new, in which case, ask someone, "why does obiwanobiwan love "Hamlet" so much...and why does he love Tchaikovksy and classical and opera music so much, *I* like Lady Gaga, why doesn't he like HER, and why are his psots so incredibly wordy when one of his favorite Shakespeare characters, the one he actually PLAYED, once said "Brevity is the soul of wit," even though THAT character totally ignored that comment's meaning, as did the wordy fellow who stabbed him through the arras.) :p
And my third choice...
Other:
"Whatever the hell Obi Titles His book" by obiwanobiwan
(Hey, I might as well send something of mine up there! I'll send up a recording of the book I'm writing, all my ideas...and then I'm good, knowing that'll last a good while after I've shackled off this mortal coil, run down the curtain, joined the choir, and become and ex-parrot, er, person! Plus, while most of what I have so far I've kept neat and orderly and in the Hume/Spinozaa style of "get to the point and don't go on a tangent!"--it's still long, but that's because I want to carefully develop the points...and because I haven't edited it yet--I have a whole section where I take up Nietzsche and Co.'s method of writing down apothogems and short bursts of ideas and responses, so there's some responses to quotes and ideas from Nietzsche and Plato and all the rest there, and even--GASP!*--some thoughts obiwanopbiwan actually made without referencing ANYONE! HIS OWN THOUGHTS! ...Well, some, there's limited space on this Golden Record, and as you can tell, if I went on as long as I'd like to, I'd take up all the space on the Record with just one tangent's thought!) :p
