Retreating to ENEMY sc's
This rule is extremely stupid. An enemy army retreating in disarray has no chance in hell of taking a fortified city.

Not to mention it makes me want to stab someone.

I'm not saying people are cheating, but could anyone comment on how strange Rome and Egypt are acting in this game? Miss a turn, come back, miss a turn, come back, all the while leaving themselves defenseless against Persia.

This thread was created to advertise a live game. No rule prohibits us from doing this. If you have a problem with this, please take a hike, or try to convince the developers to create a separate forum for organizing live games.

rlumley, I challenge you to a live game (see the 'Live Games' thread, which you so much seem to enjoy). If I win, I get to always create a new thread to advertise my live games. If you win, I'll never do this again.

I wonder if being a mod allows you to hack into games and see what moves people are using.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
09 Jun 10 UTC
It doesn't, and if it did I still wouldn't do it.
Although I do think its bad form of you all not to stop & find a replacement.
My actual game comments will clearly have to wait until the end
figlesquidge (2131 D)
09 Jun 10 UTC
Well, thats the last time I play an open gunboat in quite a while.
Well played ava, but I can't believe the other players let you do that :S
ava2790 (232 D(S))
09 Jun 10 UTC
Agreed. One of the more boring games in a while due to the CDs, putting you in a tough spot in the end trying to figure out who to give the win to...I prefer a long fight myself. It's bad form, but I have a ten page paper due tomorrow and a math final exam, so the rest of today is going to be just studying for those. Sorry, and look forward to playing you again.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
09 Jun 10 UTC
I wasn't going to give the win away - I had it nicely balanced. You were both eating in at me but all Turkey had to do was use his brain (at that point I assumed he had one) and stop attacking me. Then we'd have been able to put it into a stalemate, and I'd have got my well earned draw.
Not quite sure what Austria was up to either, but that's what I get for playing an open game.

'a math final exam' - what's this for? I'm in the middle of my summer exams at the moment (maths degree), this was supposed to be my night off revision :(
Oh well, next time will be better players = more fun!
ava2790 (232 D(S))
09 Jun 10 UTC
Yes, hopefully next time will be a good match! I prefer the games that are both high stakes and are arranged so that only players who've earned a name for being good sports would get in. I assume that Austria generally flipped out after drawing Austria, had no familiarity playing the country, and entered random moves the whole game before saying "f* it" and CD-ing.

My final exam is for a real analysis course. My university runs on a quarter system so we technically enter 'summer' only next week!

Very much in the spirit of this thread. I approve.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
09 Jun 10 UTC
"real analysis" - Don't know how hard your analysis is, but how do you find it?
For me I find it quite rewarding to get right, but sometimes it can just be ridiculously annoying - staring at a page of epsilon/delta's trying to prove the blindingly obvious.
If only obvious <=> trivial!
ava2790 (232 D(S))
09 Jun 10 UTC
Haha I know what you mean. My class is challenging, and sometimes insanely difficult. My first homework (in September) involved proving Fermat's Little Theorem, which isn't even 'analysis', but number theory. So far we've done point set topology - metric spaces, convergence theorems, continuity and differentiability theorems in very abstract cases. Still got the integration theorems, but I'm taking that course in the Fall.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
10 Jun 10 UTC
That's quite an interesting range - I'm surprised Fermat's Little came up as you say :S
Our first year analysis course goes right from grass roots up to continuity and basic differentiability.
Haven't covered metric spaces though, thats given its own course in 2nd year.

Again, I'm sorry for dropping out guys. Before I entered the game I called a friend of mine, and as you may know today there were elections in the Netherlands. So I was watching the results on an internet stream and in the mean time playing Diplomacy. But then my friend called back, and rather than sitting alone at home I went to his place to see and criticize the elections results.

I do dare to say that if I hadn't dropped out it would've been a wholly different match, and a lot harder for ava2790 to win. That said, I'm all up for a rematch - when I do have the time.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
10 Jun 10 UTC
Hmm, think I preferred it before I heard the excuse to be honest Ursa.
It certainly would, and I would have been able to actually move on those annoyances to my right rather than having to watch him grow!
Still, that's life. How'd the election go?
Ursa (1617 D)
10 Jun 10 UTC
Yeah, you're right. That would've been better.

How the elections did go is not entirely clear right now, since not all results are in yet. Yet the (very) probable results are quite unique: of the 150 seats, the two biggest (!) parties would have only 31 seats. This means the political spectrum is more divided than ever. The Labour party remains strong, but also the liberals and the right-wing party of Geert Wilders especcially has won quite spectaculary. Sadly, 'my' party, the Christian Union, lost one of their six seats.

Ah well, tomorrow we'll know the exact results and then the politicians can decide which ones of them get to rule the country.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
10 Jun 10 UTC
Good grief!
That's a reeeaaaally mixed parliament - to think people are complaining here :P
Ursa (1617 D)
10 Jun 10 UTC
Yeah:

PvdA (Labour party): 31
VVD (Liberals): 31
PVV (Wilders): 23
CDA (Chistian Democrats): 21
SP (Socialist Party): 15
D66 (Liberal Democrats): 11
Groenlinks (another left party): 10
Christian Union (christian socials): 5
SGP (right-wing christians): 2
PvdD (animal party): 1

And now I'm really off to bed. :S
