Team Game Easy Does It Style
One of the aspects of Team Tournament Play is that the end result is more the sum of individual games rather than the sum of a team effort despite some efforts at back seat

Policy Change
I will stop my threads that do not have to do with Diplomacy. However, I will continue to start threads that are legitimate questions and suggestions. Also, I will post on threads when/if appropriate. Kestas, don't ban me for starting this thread; I just wanted to announce my new policy.

Canada rocks, America lags behind
Canada went to war on the side of the allies twice, in WWI and WWII, two full years before the Yanks.

If the US had stayed out of WWI there was a good chance that Germany would have won, and WWII would not have happened or would have had different set of players.

Canada, you are a cool neighbor (nicer than our Southern neighbor, they treat their citizens poorly there and all the crime- it's like an extension of L.A.), and I love you for your hockey and for giving us Kirk and Scotty.

And England, you and Israel are the best allies in the world.

France............... well............. I'm Jewish, so I like Napoleon, but since then.........

But with Obama running the show, and no Bushes to tie us down or make us look stupid, the US is still the world's powerhouse in the West (if there are any Chinese in the forum- oy vey, I feel sorry for yoiu, you poor opressed citizens)
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=7665

Obi Wan, you have much wisdom, but you are naive to think Obama 1 does not equal Bush Lite 3.
"That's right I forgot that Canada had to contend with the Nazi jackboot, a Japanese invasion of their territories, and a future Cold War with the largest modern conventional military in the Soviet Union, oh wait I'm sorry that was America."

Canada was at war with Germany in 1914 and then 1939.

It joined NATO and lent its northern space to NORAD.

You have no clue what you're talking about, Leon.
But join anyway:

Canada lost 67,000 people in WWI, and 150,000 wounded. The Yanks now cannot firmly resolve to take on and finish the Afghan Taliban and al Qaida.
(And I am a Yank indeed.)

At the time of both wars, Canada was still a dominion within the Empire, so of course they went to war before the US.... So did 50 other places which are now states such as Australia, South Africa and Barbados.

What's your point exactly?
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
29 Dec 08 UTC
Maybe you Canadians have a different measurign system than us, but what, exactly, does "Obama 1 does not equal Bush Lite 3" mean?

And just for kicks: I love them both, but in my personal opinion, the Anlgo-Saxon-French PICARD is a better captain than Kirk the Canadian (though in the Trek-iverse he was born in Iowa)

France doesn't suck!

Their fries are awesome, they make kick-ass vanilla ice-cream, and they give us all their extra statues.

How could you not like that?

Oh, and what's a Taliban?

Are you saying that trying to stay out of a war is a bad thing?
Well, not quite Zilph. The Klan doesn't allow blacks to convert to white. The Taliban will leave you alone as long as you follow their rules, no?

@Obiwan You said you liked Napoleon because you are Jewish. Why is that? Napoleon wasn't Jewish...

Also clearly America doesn't hold a candle to Canada. Wisconsin is alright, as is Minnesota. Maybe New York too and Washington but thats it!

Actually, in terms of military deaths, Canada lost 0.40% of its population in WWII, and the US lost 0.32%. In WWI, Canada lost 0.93% and the US lost 0.12%.
diplomat1824 (0 DX)

AND, Canada had less troops involved, so that means our troops were less likely to get killed.
Centurian (3257 D)

I think (particularly in WWI) Canada and the States had similar amounts of soldiers seeing alot of combat. The reservists that the Yanks sent over in 1918/1945 didn't do anything.

"At the time of both wars, Canada was still a dominion within the Empire, so of course they went to war before the US.... So did 50 other places which are now states such as Australia, South Africa and Barbados."

A quote worth ephasizing... as a commonwealth nation, they didn't have a whole lot of options as far as joining the war. Why the hell does it matter anyway? Canada as well as all British Commonwealth nations (current and former) have been great allies of the U.S., even with the differences.
Invictus (240 D)
01 Jan 09 UTC
This whole thing is ridiculous. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's anachronisms, and this thread says that the US was blatantly wrong for not entering the World Wars right off the bat based on modern perceptions of the belligerent nations.

A lot of the tales of German atrocities in WWI were just British propaganda, and from the outside the Holocaust was invisible during WWII so the Nazis did just look like they were fighting your average war.

The idea that because we know now that the Central Powers and the Axis were bad can be used as some sort of retroactive casus belli is absurd. America got into the wars when they had to.

Two new games - 101 and 75 points each to join
Two new PPSC games:
101 points to join game ID 7740 (The End of the World As We Know It) - 36 hour turns
and
75 points to join game ID 7741 (“I do think you have to talk to enemies&rdqu) - 24 hour turns (the name for this latter game was intended to be a General Petraeus quote, “I do think you have to talk to enemies" - Petraeus... but apparently a quote followed by a dash translates into gibberish).
