Can play this game too?

In solemn declaration, I myself personally hereby vow to sesquipedalianise and, through such verbositisation, expose the inverse correlation linking the challenged status of my clarityism, maturityism, originalitysm and hopeless belief in the misuse of abstract noun-strings (ismtyism) to that of my interlect...

Please do not respond. I promise not to add to this thread.

Unless you force me.

I will stop now.

I really will.

I might start another thread though.

It is important that my work be read seriously.

I really do not know why my tutors could not appreciate it, but I will not use the conspiracy word.

And I do not keep looking at my mobile...

China and the West
Since people here are politically aware, allow me to pose this question: in the current climate what would you do as China's leaders, regarding recent events?
keeper0018 (100 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
this isnt regarding climate, but id make a limit on the amount of children one could have (i dont know if this is already in place, i have a feeling that it is). damn baby boomers!
Giramondo (100 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
China does have a one child policy already. working quite well despite human rights abuses claims.
fwancophile (164 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
i don't know, i'd do whatever chinese leaders usually do. kill peasants, imprison dissidents, invade tibet, crush elections, drink blood from the skulls of my enemies - you know, the usual.
Sicarius (673 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
which recent events are you referring?

I'd have to disagree the one child only policy is working well. it's almost a fad in america to adopt discarded chinese girls

What if I want Chinese boy? Might as well have my own slave labor at home rather then outsource it.
Sicarius (673 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
boys are harder to find, since in china, having a boy is desirable while having a girl is not
Kristopher (100 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
I don't see the logic in that question. It would be like asking someone 60 years ago, "If you were Hitler, what would you do to put a stop to the holocaust once and for all?"

China's leaders *are* the problem. So aside from stepping down and holding open elections to replace them, there's not much I can say to that effect.
fwancophile (164 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
heh. though to their credit, they have certainly made a case for the brutal effectiveness of autocracy.
Sicarius (673 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
well maybe you should move there
fwancophile (164 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
americans developed a superior concept - republicanism - to carry out our autocratic government. let china figure that out on their own :P
Sicarius (673 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
sir, I shake my head at you.
are you perhaps going to the republican national convention in St. Paul this september?
if so I'll see you there!!
fwancophile (164 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
apparently i am biking across wisconsin with some sort of collective/situational community that hates republicans and war and capitalism. don't care much for their politics, but wisconsin being a lovely state, summer being a lovely time of year, and biking being a lovely way to bring all that together, add in a close friend and whatnot and yea, i'm going to the republican convention.
fwancophile (164 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
but i mean republicanism as in a republic, not the republican party.
Sicarius (673 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
ahh.
see you there anyway I guess.

and if you are in wisconsin in the summer, may i reccomend milwaukee in july. say the 16th

i don't think i'd be welcome, and at any rate, don't think going would have any purpose. i wouldn't mind some vigorous pub debates but i have a sneaking suspicion the anarchists would leave me with the tab :P
Sicarius (673 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
Why dont you think you'd be welcome?
I might be an asshole on the internet but I'll but you a few rounds if I ever have the chance (and my fake id holds up)
fwancophile (164 D)
30 Apr 08 UTC
i assume i wouldn't be welcome because i think the entire purpose of the gathering is in error? ;) there are some wonderful places to drink in milwaukee.

oh. let's see, somehow i came across something about the "dreamtime" community on the nyt blog about the dude traveling across the country. i don't remember what linked to what or how i got there but was reading some of their old stuff, saw the convention date, etc. see, its temporal coincidences like this that make me remind everyone about god running everything :P

That depends on what my goals are. Personally, I would make democratization and friendly relations with major powers (US, Japan, EU, India, Russia) a priority. I would prefer environmentally sound decisions and 'green' policy to outright growth-at-all-costs mentality. But that's just me.

To the Chinese mind, I think, the top priority is to ensure the unity of the conglomeration of the Han people, and as a corollary to this, the union of territories to which Han central authorities have historically held sway. Nobless oblige is a much stronger tradition in Chinese culture than elsewhere, so there is less incentive to democratize and liberalize: governors of all kinds usually convince themselves that they have the people's best interests in mind, and the people could do no better with freedom than they are under benevolent dictatorship.

The Communist Party of the PRC has, to a surprising extent, sought to justify its control of the nation by reviving or revisiting practices of the classical era empires, such as language reform, merit examination and promotion, arts patronage, and a cult-like adoration of the dynastic founder (Mao).
Recognise Tibet and Taiwan as an independent countrys then call free elections across the country.

*Warning* -- Teammates at work
If anyone enters a game that includes both Yakulu and Yosheekee, they work as a team. They've played in three games together and in every one they've done it. (Kiss Diplo - 01, Alex Ovechkin is Golfing Now & jesus wore a poncho) Three straight games is not a coincidence.

Don't accuse them of being one person though, they get very upset about that.

a personal declaration
I declare, after much thought and introspection, my deliberate emancipation from participation in empty consumerism, and in the society that perpetuates it. The same society that mendaciously and injudiciously prioritizes practices that are wasteful, contradictory, and wholly detrimental, that is intolerable to any ideas which break civilizations circular reinforcement of the illusion of it's own importance, and is hostile to those who harbor them, that shortsightedly persists with the intentional, wanton destruction of finite natural resources and biodiversity, exploiting the limited carrying capacity of the Earth and knowingly leading us to a disastrous end. I have decided to secede from this culture of conformity and materialism, because acceptance of its principles leads to inclusion in a tragedy of the commons on a massive scale, and to the destruction of individualism, liberty, self-reliance and free thought. I refuse to unthinkingly accept the idea that our current civilization is both necessary and inevitable, but to always stay true to my convictions and beliefs, and to remain as free as I can of the harmful influence of our society. I will endeavor to inform others of the unfavorable outcomes of materialism, industrialization, idolization, globalization, ethnocentrism, objectification, conformity, and government, because it is my hope that by informing the populace, the abolition of these philosophies can be accomplished without violence and anarchy. I will remove myself, to the best of my ability, from a lifestyle that I no longer believe in or desire.

Eurocentrism
The game of Diplomacy is certainly Eurocentric but what are our opinions on other forms of Eurocentrism? I don't mean to go into the territory of "racism" although we could possibly explore "racialism". Should white people (and other people) try to resist a Eurocentric outlook on life?

AI and Diplomacy
Has anybody played the PC diplomacy game? i heard there is a new version out.
i played one about 3 or 4 years ago. graphics and interface were quite nice but it had one huge draw back... too bloody easy. for example on the hard setting as Austria ..... you would win almost every time.

how is the new one if anybody knows?

and as a side question how would an AI do against a human do you think?
kestas and other code minded individuals have you ever thought about setting one up? would be quite cool of you to run one in php games. sure it may not be able to understand our jibberish and typo filled demands in the chat box but it could play on semi no press individual mode.

New Player Needs Help
Hello everyone, i have just joined the site. I have never played diplomacy before, but i love the idea. I am a big fan of nomics, quo vadis, and other political/negotiation games (I would almost include risk in that category). I have read articles and descriptions of the game, and I believe I understand the basic rules. I don't want to to just jump in to a game and screw things up. What should I do? Is the there something i should read?
