Pandora, your last post was incredibly.. not thought out very well. Here wego: So.. Every single individual that *ever* claimed to hold anything in regards to a 'Christian' faith is always, period, can't-be-any-other-way-but-narrowminded? That's just about the most hypocritical thing I've read at least all day, presuming that it came from a person that figures they're open-minded to begin with.
First off, there are always going to be variants in the faith - different branches, different individuals, different ideas, notions, qualms, et cetera. *Always.* Nor can you simply look at someone based upon their skin color and lump 'them all' into one category, nor could you do so over political ideas (but I'd bet you would), or morality ideas. I don't give a rip if you're the type that always only trashes White Protestants (WASPS), which I'm guessing would be true based upon that post; at least bother understanding your bloody history.
Which leads me to my second point. Keep in mind that the folks you're talking about are Catholics in the Middle Ages. And at that point in time, Catholics were also killing loads of Catholics - not because they were staunch supporters of the faith, mind you, but because the Church at that point was little more than a ploy for a few elites in Western Civilization (namely the Pope, his favorite Bishops, and a random bout of nobles and what have you) to gain as much land/wealth that they possibly could.
And most of the Greek/Roman knowledge that Europe lost was thanks to the Germanic Invasions at the fall of the Roman Empire. Catholic monasteries hoarded and copied the books they did find (especially the Irish ones), and while they would certainly be more likely to burn 'heretical' books if they found them, there were also a fair number that got through anyways. Those Greek/Roman writers were by and large used as the scientific knowledge of the day until the Scientific Revolution began to set in.. Get your history straight before you make blanketed, ignorant comments without any attempt to figure out what was really going on; if you're hearing what is obviously only one side of a story, search out the opposing culture and get to the bottom of what was really going on and not just the spin we're all fed, regardless of where that spin comes from.
