new game
Even wanted to meet than man behind the myth ? new game staring the one and only kestas needs 4 more players. 101 points.

http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=3117

apologises to Razz for posting about the game he started on the forum and for kestas for blatantly using his name to pull in other players. in my defence its just 14 hours to go before the game starts or fails and we only have 3 so far.

Non active players
was wondering what it takes to be in the top 100 of php players. (should be of wins compared to games played but thats another story) seems to be about 500 Dpoints. was it always thus?

i noticed a lot of players didn't have active games. As there are no dates on the finished games i don't know how long ago their games were. but i was wondering what people thought of a system to slowly take away points to non active players?Nothing too drastic, i don't mean if you haven't been active in 2 or 3 months but longer, maybe after 3 months 10% of your points are taken away for every month that you remain inactive. that continues until you reach 100 points then it stops.

Just thinking it would be good to have a (maybe a side bar to the forum page of phpdip) a current list of top 100 players.

Sardinia and Crete
Why is it that in the normal map Sardinia and Crete are unowned (as per Avalon Hill) whereas in the fullscreen map they are both owned by France...?

This is turning into a discussion for Crete's rights.

No one can move into Crete because it would unbalance the game. Crete is not an SC, because that would unbalance the game. Because of the above two reasons, no one would want to, and should not, move into Crete, and therefore it doesn't really matter what color it becomes.

Besides, how do you define "color"? Every person sees color differently.

what about sicily as well as sardinia and crete, along with iceland and ireland
Theophilus (100 D)
25 Feb 08 UTC
Oi!

All I want to know is why does the color crete and sardinia differ between the full and normal maps. I never said anything about letting them be moved into or be supply centers or anything of that nature. If you're going to post here, please read exactly what I'm asking first

To answer your original inane question : the programming is different.

Hopefully, this will silence the rattle of the eggbeater that you call your mind.

I hear an eggbeater, too...

And as for defining color, that is quite simple: light frequencies.

Look, I never said it was significant, or important, just a question I'd like to have answered. I thought this forum was used for that kind of light-hearted question and answer, but maybe I was wrong.

Theophilus pointed the discrepancy out to me and I was so curious I was hasty and posted my own thread. So yes I want an answer as much as he. As for the thinly-veiled meta-gaming accusation, you will find he and I are in only one game, and in this game I was defeated before we had any common borders, as such, there is no evidence one way or another for your insulting assumption.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
26 Feb 08 UTC
Now would someone at least try to answer the question? So far all we've got are people who misunderstood the question and the sarcastic apathetic types.

To Shardz: Thank you for finally answering my question. I'm still left wondering, though, why Crete would be owned by Spain...?

To GaryOak: As far as that is concerned, I have a good many friends. They are philosophers too. In addition, you will notice that Mapleleaf was the one to start the argument, not myself. I find argument to be an excellent form of entertainment, which is why I argued back.

In an island borders all the same territories as a coastal territory then that island is considered to be part of that territory and will be colored the same.

If an island borders a set of territories that no coastal territory borders then the island is considered separate and non-ownable

The reason for this is that it would be confusing if an island was colored, but you couldnt go to a sea territory that the island touched.

So Ireland is owned by Liverpool, because Ireland doesn't touch any territories that Liverpool doesn't touch

Playing in one game, CD in another
It's frustrating when someone is playing in one game but not putting in orders (nearing civil disorder) in another game. The 24-hour time frame gets old, especially when retreat and build phases are included, when you have to wait for it day after day. This method of play is ruder than going civil disorder in all of one's games.

Just venting. I realize that this won't change anything.

Offline period
phpDip was offline for a while, I'm not sure how long. Just as I was posting a support ticket it came back online though.

I'm going to delay next process times by 10 hours, in case anyone missed their orders.

In case anyone was wondering if the update was being applied; when the update is applied there'll be a days warning, and a message posted to the site letting you know that the site is being updated.

No Press Tournament
We have finished one, did the other finish? i see there are quite a few No Press games going/finished recently. i saw a no.5 up and running i think. So how about we take the 7 highest unit getters of all the games finished?
but if people want to just take the best 7 from the 2 set No Press Tournament games its ok with me.

Game objectives
I know most people follow the path of
1) Don't die out
2) Don't loose
3) Win
However, in one of my games I've reached an interesting point. We are about to reach a stalemate line, with me on oneside and the other two players, who are allied, on the other. This looks like it is going to therefore me a draw. However, if one of them stabs the other, then it will not. In this situation they have said they think i would win (which is a possibility I admit). But then, even if I win, they would still take more out of it than a draw.
So, what I'm asking is do people think that a draw is a better finish than a good 2nd place?

What happened here?
In my game my move from Ionian Sea to Adriatic Sea bounced when I'm quite sure it shouldn't have. The game is at http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=2906 and all of the 'GameMaster' messages relating to this turn are below. Am I just being stupid or is there really no reason for the bounce?

12:15 AM Spring 1908, Diplomacy: Your fleet at Apulia successfully supported the fleet at Ionian Sea move to Adriatic Sea.

12:15 AM Spring 1908, Diplomacy: Your fleet at Ionian Sea moving into Adriatic Sea recieved move support from the fleet at Apulia.

12:15 AM Spring 1908, Diplomacy: Your army at Piedmont successfully supported the army at Venice move to Tuscany.

12:15 AM Spring 1908, Diplomacy: Your army at Venice moving into Tuscany recieved move support from the army at Piedmont.

12:15 AM Spring 1908, Diplomacy: Your fleet at Ionian Sea engaged the fleet at Adriatic Sea head on; both units were equally matched so there was a stand off.

Bugs and FAQs
As notice in FAQ secction: 'adjudicator works for the majority of moves made, but it is a simplified implementation of the official rules'.

Since I has suffer some bugs or disfuction of adjudicator (like retreating for SPA(sc), supporting convoys, some uncutted unexpected supports, etc), etc.

Is there a complete list of detected bugs/misfuctions where players can follow them and see if this bugs/misfuction are fixed?

I don't found this on 'HELP' page....

Thanks Kestas.

Abandonments
I count 9 different players in CD now, which seems a rather high number. At the same time, games with higher pots seem to be having a hard time getting off the ground. I wonder what's going on?

Hopefully the update will correct this, at least in part, by adding an abandon game option. However, I still think it would be worthwhile to analyze whether the length of time it takes to put a country into CD is too long. My sense is that it is.
