A name such as AverageWhiteBoy isn't racist bt itself, but has the potential to become so in certain situations. To your credit, however, you have gone out of your way to generate some very average stats so no one can accuse you of being anything other than accurate :).

The chief danger of a name like that is to give the impression that you're another race obsessed Yank who has the potential to go off on one at a moment's notice, but that's about it.

Perhaps the word to be defined is suggestive, not subtle. I didn't mean suggestive in an offensive sort of way, just that it somehow relates to race. Not everything relating to race is racist. You basically hit what I was going for in your second paragraph.

To up the ante a bit I would say this. It is a bit odd to reference your skin colour (presuming that is your skin colour) in your game name. It is not racist in itself, but statistically someone who does that is more likely to be racist.... there you go :)

Every once in a while I get surprised from some new issue regarding race. (I am a white American). Apparently there was recently a lot of discussion about whether it's OK to touch someone's hair, or to ask to touch someone's hair, or if it's racist to even ask. I assume the hair touching always involves natural Afro hairstyles. Anyway, I had no idea people were interested in touching other people's hair, or asking to touch other people's hair. I didn't know that was a thing.

No I didn't know touching hair was happening at all. Probably because I'm a dude.

I vaguely recall an article from years ago that was commenting on the shockingly low numbers of black people who swim, and was suggesting that a large factor was that the impact of chlorine on a black person's hair caused quite a lot of problems.

I read a hell of a lot of really tedious articles in the free papers on the bus to uni :p.

There may be something in it, though. I did briefly go out with a girl who happened to be black, and her hair was indeed bloody awful.

I don't see why it is racist to be curious about this, in much the same way that it is perfectly natural to be curious regarding the differing feel of natural breasts and implants. However I'm quite certain you'd get more than a few funny looks if you went up to a girl and asked for a feel.

Inherently racist? No. "White boy" is a totally neutral term. A white person who is a young male. Simple.

The mere discussion of race does not automatically introduce racism. It is not racist, free of context, to describe Kanye West as a black musician, for example. That is what he in fact is.
