I think there's a pretty big difference between a show like AD or Parks and Rec and a show with a traditional sitcom format like BBT or Seinfeld. Personally, I think AD and Parks have too much of an ongoing plot, too many new characters introduced during each season, and have too complicated a plot to be considered a traditional sitcom. Even a show like Louie doesn't really stick to the traditional format. I've always thought of a true sitcom sticking to the format of a handful of main characters with minimal carryover between episodes with some kind of studio audience or laugh track.

So it's not a "traditional sitcom." On that I'd agree. But genres evolve. It's clearly a sitcom.

Frasier, for example, was *obviously* a sitcom, but it too had definite plot progression -- it was just a little slower.

I agree that genres evolve, but sitcoms have stuck to a pretty traditional format ever since the days of "The Honeymooners" and "I Love Lucy". There really isn't that much of a difference, format wise, between those shows and BBT. You've got a handful of main characters, usually four or five, with a handful of sets, an "A" plot that may carry over in between episodes, and a "B" plot that might add drama or extra plot points. Both usually get resolved by the end of the episode and there is rarely any carryover from one episode to the other.

Its an irrelevant classification anyway. A funny show is a funny show. I think we can probably all agree that 2.5 Men is not funny.

Jon Cryer isn't funny, Ashton Kutcher isn't fit for the role he's trying to play, and the plot got so ridiculous so long ago. It's been on ten years; shows don't last that long.

That's not even getting into the abhorrent nature of the show either.

I've seen the reruns. Charlie Sheen was funny for awhile but it didn't last.

Come on what's wrong. Jon cryer is funny, Charlie sheen was brilliant , Ashton so so.

Friends is without a doubt the best comedy ever made.

I have to admit. Two and a Half is a great postmodern statement on the current state of society and how it impacts young men. I mean we are presented with a coming of age tale of a young boy trapped between the advice of a weak, self-loathing misogynist and the perils of being a womanizing, self-obsessed misogynist and how easily women can be depicted as only sexual objects, micromanaging witches or just plain crazy. And when the boy comes of age, he does not know what to do, so he falls back on the "manliest" job we know, a soldier. A perfect satire of the common "coming of age" story.
