Team game
Is it possible to create a WTA full press game, where each country had two players play it? Press could come from either player, and would be received by both players...

2 team game
Would any of you guys be interested in joining a game that starts out with just 2 sides? One side would consist of England, France, Germany, and Italy and the other would consist of Turkey, Russia, and Austria. The game would be drawn once one side is eliminated.

GM Is Innocent
As above, so below:
krellin (80 DX)
15 Apr 14 UTC
Though the hubbub has mostly died down, and though a few people are still dead, GM is fully *innocent* of any deaths associated with ignition switch problems. Prior to any actual, real world events taking place, GM conducted a great deal of design research into these switches. The made schematics, they ran tests in labs, even conducted computer simulations…and the switch worked great. If there was an “ignition switch denier” in the company, he was rightfully silenced…after all, the simulations were accurate, the switch was fine. It is irrelevant that “real world data” is contrary to the computer simulations of the ignition switch.

GM is INNOCENT.

I didn't know General Mills made ignition switches. I thought they just made cereal?
krellin (80 DX)

Ironically, GM does NOT make ignition switches, just to keep things straight...

I didn't even know the GameMaster has a role... Does this mean we shouldn't lynch PE?
Often big companies take the fall for faults their supplier did because they want to keep their relationship going. Toyota did this a few years back.

Meme, you mafia slime, you're dead. Shut up now.

But I'm pleased to see the first two monkey's can't reject my thesis, and therefore mock it.

What is this about and why should it be of interest to the forum? Not everyone reads the motoring press, Krellin - context please?
krellin (80 DX)
15 Apr 14 UTC
goldie - they take the fault because the GM Engineer's created the spec thesupplier used to build the part and signed off on the switch for including in the vehicle. they bought it and sold it, so they own the design. Very few parts on vehicles are manufactured by the OEM -- the OEM is a vehicle *integrator* - they integrate the parts from suppliers into a vehicle. that is what a manufacturing assembly plant does -- but GM./Ford/Chrysler/Toyota/Hyundia/etc don't make parts.
krellin (80 DX)
15 Apr 14 UTC
Jamie...INDULGE the krellin.

Should GM be liable or not? The had computer simulation data that says the part is good. GD&T data passed muster. Stress analysis in some sort of 3 D programming says the part works. Why shouldn't they be 100% exonerated by the computer simulation?

Work with me here, Jamie...answer the question.
krellin (80 DX)

And jamie...seriously, why should ANY of the shit on the threads be of interests to webdip players. Get real, crabbycakes.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
15 Apr 14 UTC
Krellin, I can't answer your question because I don't know what this is about - that's what I'm trying to say - I don't know anything about the original story. I don't read the US motor industry trade press and whatever story is at the root of this hasn't been reported in UK media. What is the issue exactly?
krellin (80 DX)
15 Apr 14 UTC
Oh...GM CEO was pulled in front of Congress because they have bad ignition switches (going back to like 2006 or something) that cause total vehicle shut-down when they fail, and have led to multiple deaths. MASSIVE recall...will end up costing GM $1 billion +

I'm just saying...they have computer data that said the switches were good. Why should real life data matter? Really, this idea applies to any company with legal action against them. Why isn't computer model data good enough to exonerate the corporation?

sorry for calling you crabbycakes! :)

If the computer says nothing can go wrong and something goes wrong, it's possible that the computer is simply wrong, and if the computer is wrong, the company should be held responsible I'd say.

My point: I don't know the details of this story, but just because a computer says something doesn't mean the company is not to blame, so don't say it's all good because the computer said something...
krellin (80 DX)
15 Apr 14 UTC
Steephie...no....can't be so. The computer has to be right, because it was programmed by smart people after years of work. They sometimes even "tweak" the programming based upon experience to make sure the data is right.

How an you say a computer simulation can be wrong??
2ndWhiteLine (2601 D(B))
15 Apr 14 UTC
krellin is a computer
krellin (80 DX)
15 Apr 14 UTC
2WL is an ignition switch denier.

A Consensus of Engineering Experts said the switch is OK. I don't think the real life experiences of a few ignition switch deniers should have any say in whether or not these switches are 100% OK as is.
krellin (80 DX)
15 Apr 14 UTC
Show of hands -- who among you want to go against the Engineering Consensus of Experts, backed by their computer simulations, and show yourself to be an Ignition Switch Denier?

• Actually, the GM argument is probably a hell of a lot more valid than global warming arguments, since *most* of the time, computer simulations in the engineering community produce a product that actually *does* behave as predicted. That can not…ever…be said for the fraudulent global warming models…

I say this as an engineer that spent three year sitting in front of the "autocar" - our vehicle simulator - before I took my software out on the road in actual vehicle to verify my lab results...

You're probably waiting in great excitement for the chance to accuse someone of lacking "intellectual integrity", aren't you, Krellin? Y'know, despite more or less having previously admitted that you have none yourself?

I'm a former Marine. Doesn't mean I'm still one. I'm a former professional musician. Doesn't mean I still play for a living. Krellin could be a former gigolo for all we know. That doesn't make him intellectually dishonest, just vocationally diverse.

Should this country be in CD?
Not finding the written out rules in the FAQ or Rulebook section of the site. My impression was missing two phases opened the country for a replacement. Germany in gameID=137674 has missed a diplomacy and retreat phase but is still in the game. Does it have to be 2 diplomacy phases?

Why No Press is Best
Seems like most games are no-message games. But isn't the core of Diplomacy the diplomacy between people and that the moves are just the outcome of that?

I'm not saying No Press is *Not* Best. Just trying to understand why it seems to have more appeal these days.

Online payment systems for people under 18 (or other ages in some countries perhaps)
I want to receive money from someone who wants to send it via PayPal, but PayPal is 18+ in my country while I'm 16 years old. I'm already working on online banking, but apparently sending the money to a bank account is a problem, so I need some other account to receive the money on. My parents could receive the money and send it to me I suppose, but since I plan on making this general practice, I'd rather not do that.
Idea's?

Hey y'all, a player in two of my invitational pseudo-gunboat games has to drop due to serious IRL issues. The player fortunately has not NMRed and both games were paused in time, so the game has not been affected by this emergency. However, I'm in need of replacements. Please post here to state your interest in either game and I will PM you with specifics. Thanks!
