Isn't it an errant "o"? In any event, I've recently started gunboat, but I am astonished at how clueless many players seem to be. Countries are getting hammered on one side and fail to see that their initial target is moving in non-agressive ways and even supporting them, and yet these players miss the flaming red flags set before them and go down still trying to invade the only country signalling an alliance. Mostly, I find that gunboat comes down to which country gets the utter dingbat next door. I suppose I need to play higher stakes GB. So far, I'm not particualrly impressed, although it has improved my press game considerably, actually.

Ogion, anything other than top 20 gunboat games are garbage. I mean, just look at the six way draw in Split's last game ;)

I play mostly gunboat, mainly because I have no idea of whether I'll have the time for proper press. I play with press over the summer, because then I can be fairly sure I'll have the time.

I'd also point out that since Gunboat games take less time, someone who splits his time evenly between press and gunboat is going to play more Gunboat than Press games. Similarly, someone who only plays Gunboat will play more games than someone who only plays Press, other things being equal. So, there being more gunboat games doesn't mean it's vastly more popular.

@taos. Yes, I've noticed that. I've gotten far better at that sort of thing and it has been great. Even though I am struggling with gunboat at the moment, I have improved my press game considerably I think
