In specific applications I can see a lot of potential. Imagine a see-through tablet computer in particular - you could lay it over maps or plans or other hardcopy documents you were working on. That would certainly have uses.

I could see some interesting uses. Google glass being a good example. Like Draug said, for drivers. So windshields, windows in a company, etc. While it doesn't seem like a hugely important technology, it could be used in very creative ways.

Unless you want the plane to be completely blind, any signals can be messed with in theory, although some things would be extremely hard to pull off.
To give an example, if the plane flies purely on sight, it could be fooled with a panoramic billboard in theory, but not taking those extremely unlikely options in mind, yes that's possible...

ok, so there is potential uses for this see-through technology to exist in areas where we already have sight - ie. fighter pilots, driving cars, HUD's for helmets etc... but why are we getting this "OMG it's so F'ing fantastic that we can swipe at mid-air!!' crap on TV? Mostly in the situations that are presented to us, this see-through gimmick is just that - a gimmick. Anyone care to argue why we are getting this rubbish tech - in particular why it is touch-screen? Are we really being reduced to tapping at random icons in the vain attempt at thought?

Yeah but the advantages of a remoteless jet which can be programmed to "fight X nation" with no end are apparent for maniachal generals. Even if your nation is completely wiped out, your forces will continue to kill the enemy. In an ideological war that would be a worthwhile consideration.

I imagine that in the future a nuclear powered drone could be ordered to war indefinitely - the only real problem is ammunition, and if you use lasers or some other source of destruction...

Back to the argument about screens; they're lighter right?

This makes them advantageous for virtually anything where weight matters. Think space flight, ships, military, aircraft.

Also, frameless cameras (where you can see what youre taking a picture of *through* the frame) would be nice. And skyscrapers will have computers integrated into the walls.

@Kaner, touchscreen exteriors of a building could be used for some interesting weather analysis purposes. Measure the wind hitting each building perfectly, the intensity of the rain, the number of bird's hitting the windows. I'm sure you can think up of some other uses.

It's more of the next step that's amazing and geeky...wearing google glass and typing and punching icons in mid air that only the user can see.

one thing could be to combine the see through touch screen display with electronic tintable glass behind it to convert a glass wall into a large display for meetings.
