I'll discuss them, but remember they aren't approved yet. Also I think I found a flaw in my promotion system I'll correct today.

Two big changes:

1. Scoring - Scoring will no longer be a simple division of 12 for the draw plus Wta. Now, the winner draw size will affect it. 2 way is worth more total points then 3 way which is worth more than 4 way which is worth more than 5 way, and there are no points for a 6 or 7 way draw. Plus, to continue the fighting after stalemate lines are set and give even more motivation to reduce draws and more strategic options, every 3 owned SCs at the end of the game are worth a point, but there are no partial points or rounding: 3, 4, or 5 SCs are 1 point - you must have the 6th to get the second point. So an 18 SC win gets 6 bonus points, but if he can hold off and brag 4 SCs for a 21SC solo, the victor gets another bonus point.

My initial thought is all players get bonus points, but the more I think about this, the more I think maybe bonus points only apply if you already got points. Go ahead and discuss this. Do you think it'll lead to strong second players even though the winner is going to dominate with bonus points? Or do you think only allowing the soloist and drawers to have them reduces their utility?

Think of a collection of tournaments ribbon in parallel that has the best at the highest level and you work your way up season after season striving to reach that premiere league.

No, abge, it's like saying that you have to win both classic and speed chess to play at the hugest chess rank league. It's still chess, just with it's own flavor and the premiere league proves a mastery of both skill sets. Gymnastics lets you reach a gold in each individual competition, but the most sought after is the all-round gold.

No, that would be like having people play both 24 hour and 10 min phase games to get in to the premiere. Diplomacy and Gunboat are different games.

If both game types are sort of separate with a crossover kind of thing for all-rounders (so with 3 rankings for example: Press, gunboat and overall. There are other options though.) I'm going to love it. Is that what you have in mind though, Draugnar, or not?

So you would have 2 sort of separate tournaments when it comes to who plays and who wins in what league and such, with a 3rd ranking of the two things combined. This 3rd ranking would solve a lot of tie-breakers within the two things. For example, same amount of points in press? Guy with most gunboat points is placed higher.

Not sure if I'm on the right track though.

Also, I would consider TDing/helping with TDing, but I don't know if Draugnar wants to do it alone or whatever.

You've got the basic idea, steephie. And I've rethought from abge's posting. We will continue the full press and gunboat to premiere. But the grand champ will be the all around winner. I'll have to figure out how to promote from the A leagues a little better (it gets tricky from 2 leagues to one especially with the crossover). I'll look at it at home tonight.

Simple, although there are various options, so choosing is more complicated. For example, the 3 best all-round, the 2 best from each type (not counting the 3 best all-round) go to the premiere league, which consists of N number of press games and N number of gunboats, in which N could be any number, as long as it's the same number in both cases, and probably the same as in all the other leagues?

I was thinking top 1 from each combined group top 1 from each group by type. That guarantees 4 of the 6 demoted, then best of the second places. For two more in each class.

The problem will be on the demotions. If someone warrants it in the overall, but was to of gunboat, what to do... I have to think on this some.

We might hold a third round just for the premier league every year and you have to earn a spot in it... I'll think some on it.

I'm not sure I follow you, but maybe promote all winners of all-round, press and gunboat, and demote everyone else or the worst scorers in each class, dependent on how many people need to be demoted.

This would be a system that allows various possibilities because it's possible that the best in gunboat and press are the same guy for example, meaning only one guy is promoted instead of 3. The same counts for demotions.

That's where tie-breakers come in, since there will be situations where too many/few would be promoted/demoted, which can be solved by looking at either the second worst overall score if you need one demotion or the second worst scorer in press and gunboat if you need 2 demotions. If those 2 are the same guy and you need 2 guys, you add the overall second worst scorer, if that's the same guy too you add the 3rd worst overall scorer, etc.

In a sense, things would be much more dynamic. There's much less of a safe bubble at the top and much less of a certainly dead-bubble at the bottom because you don't even know how many demotes/promotes there will be in your league. It's influenced by all the other leagues.

But we already have a really good gunboat tournament, so...

you can never have too many tournaments!

Honestly, this is sounding overly complicated. I think the scoring variation Draug suggests sounds good but the multiple game types thing seems difficult to manage

Leagues are a different type of tournament. You progress season after season. Our tournament is more an open free for all any one can win. Plus, the leagues are not anon and are played sequentially, not concurrently. Very very different.

I would scrap one very but anyway.

Also note that, presumably, you can metagame based on how many points people have in gunboat this way too, so that should make the gunboat part unique compared to other tournaments.

I think gunboat non-anon with the kind of metagaming the leagues allow, will be really hard to control and it will end in flame wars in the forums, but I could be wrong. I

The key to the gunboat league will be enforcement... If it becomes to difficult for the mods and me, then we cancel the gunboat play and stick to the full press.
