Does anyone else love that this site has not changed its look in like eight years?

Because I actually seriously love that about it. Nothing else in my life on the internet still looks like it did then, and it looks fine.

Surrender option

I am thinking that having a surrender option (to your attacker, or one of your allies that you border) might add a very nice twist to the game. Often we see people give up, but giving them a chance to surrender their territories would take diplomacy to another level, where you could negotiate with someone, give him your armies, and watch your enemy deal with a much bigger force. Thoughts?

Playing with people I know

I have read the rules that state that you must not enter a game with any pre-made alliances (metagaming). I'd like to host a game with people I know but we don't have enough players to make a full game. Instead I'm considering allowing the empty spaces to be filled by people we don't know.

Even if we play like we don't know each other are we likely to be accused of cheating and therefore is this not worth bothering with unless I have 7 people to make a private game?

Who's the Bard of WebDip? The Favorite Author Tournament!

List your 4 favorite authors below (if one of your four has already been picked, choose another.) Once we have at least 16 authors (or more, if we get more interest) we'll line them up, the first author chosen vs. the last one posted (so, yeah, Shakespeare vs. whoever the last guy/gal is, lol), and then the second vs. the second to last, etc. in +1 spinoff threads (so, yeah, Shakespeare vs. Challenger X/Y). :p Highest total after 24 hours moves on...repeat until we choose the Bard of WebDip!

I can't find the server of webDiplomacy

I'm registered on diplomacy since about one week and every time i played without any problem, but today i was unable to find the server for about 18 hours. What was happened to me? People have to pay something for play on this site? thanks :)

France:

- Got rekt so hard in 1901, I'm fortunate guak moved his army to Yorkshire instead of Wales or I'm probably out by 1905.
- Fight that off with some good fortune; guak stabbed SplitDiplomat for Holland and sparked a free-for-all in Scandinavia that distracted England long enough for me to pick myself up
- Picked a fight with Germany over Belgium, got Belgium and eventually secured good position on the British Isles
- Miscommunication with SplitDiplomat; tried to break off to fight Austrian solo, he got the message a turn late, I misinterpreted his moves as an attack and reciprocated
- At some point I decided I was going to cut Germany out of the draw and go for the solo
- Germany tries to throw the game, I manage to beat back German-Austrian attacks
- 2ndWhiteLine wisely gives up ground in Scandinavia to get to the stalemate line
- Some sparring in the Med results in Austrian control of the Ionian Sea and a stalemate in Italy
- Draw

FF to 1912:

Germany decides to pull back and make one last stand in Scandinavia slash throw the game to me because of the French/German miscommunication. I decided to go hard for the solo since I couldn't build any more fleets in Trieste because of the blockade by Italy and the remaining single Turkish fleet. I succeeded in getting to 17 centers but didn't have enough units to successfully hold Kiel. At that point, I felt that the draw was potentially in danger, especially after Italy retreated F ADR to Apu instead of disbanding and rebuilding. Luckily, I got a last ditch Turkish support into ION and got units into Warsaw and Livonia to seal the stalemate.

I had a possible route to 18 through Rome and Naples, but the risk of losing the Ionian to a spiteful Italy was too great.

Ya, I mentioned it in the global chat postgame, but I wasn't playing to cut you out of the draw; I was playing to get the solo and there wasn't any way I could do it without Tunisia. 2WL shut me down in Russia though so I didn't have a shot.

This game certainly lived up to its name. What an awful display from me. I'd say I still had a fighting chance if I didn't completely drop the ball with Warsaw in 02. Went from having a build to neutral and needing to recover. Way too late at that point.

What a great game to watch finish though. Nice job France and Austria. Great games.

Eden, I think that convoying the army to Denmark in S1914 ended up hurting you. If you had a fleet in BAL in 1915 then Ber was yours.

Only thing Austria needed to do was to enter Finland in spring '13 and nobody would have been able to "beat back German-Austrian attacks",it was all set for him,he just needed to realize it.

I think the proper move for you A02 was Warsaw -> Silesia; still splits the Pru/Sil army possibilities but doesn't give up Warsaw if Germany decides to try something different

Impossible. I still couldn't have taken Norway - we both had single support until France took Sweden. Austria can never successfully hold anything past St. Pete anyway.

The convoy ended up hurting me, but at the time it was the right call I think; the idea there was that I could afford to give up Norway (since I was taking Kiel), but I needed to ensure I could hold Sweden. I wanted the extra unit in Denmark to help secure Sweden while maintaining flexibility with my fleets since I had to cover against Germany's navy, set up on Scandinavia and also prepare for my push to the Med.

Well,I realized that three of four years earlier then you did.That's why I took Edi,to keep the balance between the two of us while we trying to prevent Austrian solo together.What did you think at that point? I was going to attack France?
What was the other option for me but to help Austria? To wait untill you cut me off?
Do you realize Austria had the open road to the solo in '13? I understand it's hard for second to see it but I believe you see it very well.

I actually did think you were going to attack me, ha. It was a misread of the situation. I felt at the time that I backed off and moved toward Italy a bit prematurely; while 2WL had made his move against you, he wasn't on the brink of soloing. I was worried that I'd opened up too much, and I misinterpreted your taking Edinburgh as confirmation that I had. I don't think I was going to cut you out for sure until the turn you convoyed out of Berlin, though... sure, I figured I would try for the solo once I got hold of Norwegian and North, but my mind was far from made up; the convoy out of Berlin sealed it. Both our paths at that point were locked in I think.

I was going for the solo there; just didn't expect you to go all-in for Austria's solo, I guess. I figured you would hold onto Scandinavia at least, and try to parlay that into a draw.

Of course you were going for the solo there, good answer. Now,who prevented your solo actualy - Austria or Germany? Think a bit more. Was it throwing away the game by my side or was it thinking a couple of years ahead and preventing the real solo threat actualy?
